Compared to the black receiver of the rifle the rail looks like it's the bronze it's meant to be. Black DD rails have been pictured on USSF M4s. They simply seem to end up with a few in the system due to a packing/delivery mistake, QC failures resulting in a few black ones being added in to make up numbers etc. Not common, but not unicorn rare or anything for stitch counters to get their panties in a bunch about

That's probably not black, but dark bronze. It looks very dark compared to the FDE accessories, but not as much as the body.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to search for any pictures of the black rails on military issued carbines. If anyone knows of any good pictures, please let me know.

In the beginning of the Block II program Daniel Defense apparently, issued some black rails.

In order to secure there supply of rails to socom.

 

But there rare, the official description of the color is SOCOM FDE
