I believe there were prototypes in 'Nam, but only a few were built, so no, not many M203's would have been around in 'Nam. And they weren't the heatshield version either, they were odd looking, like a cardboard tube on the bottom of the forgrip lol.

 

The prototype I think you are refering to is the XM-148. It did use a "pipe" shaped heat shield over M16's. You also see them on XM177's but using the standard hand guard but w/o the lower half. Aparently the XM-148 was a piece of junk...I have never seen or used one in person.

Does anyone know the weight of there M16A2/M203 (specificly the M15 Rifle/CA MIL M203 & Heat shield) I'm trying to find this info out, before I make the actual purchase  <_<

 

My M16A2 with a metal reciever and onepiece outer barrel, unloaded, 'batteryless',

wieghs in about eight pounds :P.

 

Edit: With SP M203, heatshield and all.
