Interactive Review System ONLINE!

Recommended Posts

I knew I forgot to add something last night (was in a rush to get stuff online).

There's a new Review System online now that's specifically setup to allow users to get their work online here, and to rate products, retailers, events and more.

There's a FAQ and guide online to help you written by R22Master here: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...showtopic=27247

You can find the system online here: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/reviewpost/index.php and also linked to top right of the forums. I'll be adding it into the main navigation on the LHS to both the forum navigation and the front page later on.

So go on add products, reviews and your own content in there and lets fill it all up nicely ;)

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the newest addition to Arnie's Airsoft is now LIVE!.

It is the Interactive Review System and it can be accessed by clicking the "Review Database" link at the top-right of every forum page.

The system allows anyone to add products and reviews dynamically, without the need for it to be manually coded to an HTML page.

------------------------------

Read the FAQ located below for information on how to use the system, and I hope that you find it a useful and valuable addition to the site.

Enjoy ;)

Hell yeah! i have been waiting for this for a while!

Brilliant feature, +1 to you R22 for writing up so many reviews :)

*EDIT* Will the reviews in the "Reader's reviews" sub-forum be uploaded into the new database?

Cheers :)

Not automatically. If you have a review in the "Reader's Reviews" section, feel free to copy it over though ;)

It depends on its popularity. I guess eventually, the Reader's Reviews section will be totally replaced by this system. The normal reviews section may remain to compliment this new system for a while until the information contained becomes too outdated or the reviews are replaced by better ones in the new system.

You can always start a thread to ask questions about a particular review, or PM the author.

Cool.

You can always start a thread to ask questions about a particular review, or PM the author.

Which would be the appropriate forum for staring a thread, out of curiosity? Would it be worth considering adding link at the bottom of each review to it's own optional comments thread in the appropriate forum, or could a feature like this be integrated into the system?

One more, can the review be edited after submission, or is there a mechanism in place to allow updates to an existing review?

R22master told me that you'd have to PM a mod to get your review edited once it's submitted, otherwise if a review was submitted and edited by a mod than the person submitting it could freely edit it and put it back the way it was.

Hmmm...

Seems a shame that you can't insert images into the review.

A huge block of text is boring. Text with pictures inserted is interesting, especially if the pictures illustrate what's going on in the text.

Beyond that, pictures are often neccesary in order to clarify a particular point, such as how a hop-up works etc.

Depends on the question. If you want to know what sort of gearset is in the reviewed gun, post a thread in Technical Discussion and link to the review page. If you want to know if the magazines will fit in your vest, post up in Gear Discussion.

Things like links at the bottom of each review leading to a thread where comments can be posted is something that will be considered for future addition. At the moment, we just wanted to get the system up and running and it has been a lot of hard work getting it this far. As your comments on the system are received, thoughts will be taken on board and obviously if they offer a useful addition to the system, they are likely to be implemented at some point. :)

Pretty much. The Global Mod Team CAN edit reviews and products freely, so if you have something you want to add, it is possible for us to do.

HOWEVER - Bear in mind that we won't have time to rewrite reviews for you, or make intricate changes. If you want us to add a link or an "Update:" section at the end, we can - just PM one of us with the text you want added and a link to the product page. We will simply copy and paste the text directly on to the end of the review for you.

Editing has been disabled to stop people from posting a good review, and then removing it all and replacing it with non-PG13 content or utter rubbish, after approval.

Indeed. The system allows you to add up to 6 images that will be hosted on this site. You can link to those images using the IMG tag inside your review. You can also link to images hosted elsewhere on the web (your own web space, photobucket account, etc...) using the same IMG tags exactly as you would in a normal forum post. ;)

----------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your comments guys'n'gals, and thanks for the +1s. But don't forget Arnie - he has been working hard for the last month or so to bring everyone this system :)

Many thanks Arn - looks like it has all been worth the effort so far ;)

It seems to work here :)

One thing; Can we get some objective ratings?

10 out of 10 for a gun with issues you yourself have commented on is not an unbiased assesment.

Take a good look at the review you've written and then consider how much that corresponds to a rating out of ten. Don't just give it a ten cos you own it.

I think the rating system will work well if enough people writes about the same product and vote on it as best as they can, and the average score should be a decent reflection of how good the product is. On the other hand, if there's never more than 2 or 3 people writes for a given item, it'll never be objective, and it'll have to be up to the reader to make their own decisions (in this case, it might be better to do away with the scoring system).

That's where I like the Reviews comments forum: you can ask questions in public, so the answers are there for everyone. Really, it expands on the review, giving you a more detailed view.

:zorro:

Yep, that's the advantage of free speech, but the down side is sometimes, a couple of guys will spam the thread. Of course, a mod can go in and clean it up, but that's a lot of work for us. :P

Anyways, feel free to ask the writer (via PM) any questions after reading a review in the new review database, and the writers feel free to edit or update your review. And feel free to add any your own views if you have any experience with the product. The scoring system is counting on a large sample size. It's meant to be a compromise between completely free forum and the completely formal review section of the forum. :)
