We just call it "Earth"

Quick the matches.

But then again you aren't too far off, i mean the US tries to control NATO, just about every military action involving the West ('cough' ISAF 'cough') and has given South Korea a flag that looks like the Pepsi logo.

Than again i am speaking for a country that at one pointed owned about a quarter of the world but couldn't keep its home affairs in order.

There should be a single European currency. It should be Sterling.

There should be a common European language. It should be English.

But seriously, though....

A lot of the nations in the "Eurozone" are worried and considering leaving, after the economic problems in Greece, Spain and Italy. I've heard rumours that Germany is printing Deutsch Marks again, for example. If Germany or France, for example, decide to leave the Euro, the whole single currency thing will collapse.

It seems that the various economies of the member nations aren't able to support the single currency correctly, problems in one country can't be addressed by their governments in the way the UK was able to take action to limit the economic damage over the past couple of years, so if one economy falls it is going to take the rest of them with it.

Equally, people in more prosperous countries don't seem to like having to pay the price of supporting the failing economies of other nations. Can't think why that could be...

It can't possibly work while people are too busy looking out for themselves first.

On the one hand, you've got people demanding independence and regional autonomy and all that stuff (See Scotland, Wales, etc) while on the other you've got a "union" of countries. If the people in a single country can't even work together properly, what hope do they have for successfully joining their country into a union of other countries with different languages, cultures and economic realities?

But, overall, we should be working towards joining together, not splitting apart. The goal should be a single world government for the benefit of everyone. How else can we properly address global problems and reach out into space to ensure the survival of our species isn't dependant on this one planet, much less interact with any other species that might be out there?

That's the world we live in.

Might as well accept it and start to use it to your advantage. Because the other *fruitcage*ers are doing that, and if you don't, you'll be the one who is getting taken advantage of.

Habakure - we ought to meet up some time. I work at the TA Centre on Liverpool Road, Huyton, and travel to/from work every day on the M57/M62/M60...

I know that TA, think there use to be a lad there named Steve, from Kirkby?

I live off the M62 (junction 7) and that new turn off for the M57, its a wonder there hasn't been a major accident there, seeing as some people like to dive in front of you at the very last minute.

Shoot me a pm when you fancy a meet up as I tend to go to Prescot for a drink, as I like the pubs there (The Sun Inn and The Clockface).

Just kick out Greece, Spain, and Italy. They haven't worked in the past, and it's not like that's suddenly going to change. You've got Italy who is a far cry from their Roman roots, except in the case of the debauchery of their PM, who would make Nero proud, Spain who subsidizes bull fighting throughout their country even though they lack the funds for the government's budget, and Greece...well, Greece... :P

Shut it, Yank. I'm surprised you even know the names of those places! :P

He read about them in a book called 'World of Warfare, Teaching Americans about the World and Other Countries' after he saw other languages on his box of McDonalds fries and wanted to check it wasn't alien. :D

Spain who subsidizes bull fighting throughout their country

America, who subsidizes rodeos and animal hunting throughout their country.

Trust me USA you are just as bad if not worse. :P

Eh, I just wait for the military industrial complex to take over everything, to the point were bullets become currency.:D

Here's a thought, if the EU did break up, which states would stick together?

I cannot really insult the UK, as half my blood makes up every state within it. The other half is of course German. You could say I have a bit of a "Imperialistic/Militaristic " stroke in me.:Dr_Evil:

You don't know someone by the name of Bailey, do you?

It's just that I know a Yank living over here who seems to hold similar views...

You got another one of those flame-proof suits?

I made a batch of them for a time like this.

Plus got to give a point for IRA funding, especially as i have family for both sides of that case (ROI and British).

No, it's called "Stuff Outside Murrika"

No wonder you have issues if you can't even spell the name of your country correctly. :D

As the great Stephen Fry said: 'War is God's way of teaching America geography'. All i say is too bad they hadn't told them that God doesn't exist. :P

We should probably get off this good-natured discussion before some humourless Mod bursts in and gives us all warning points for nothing.

New rant - eBay.

I've been trying to sell some Army dress blues trousers for £15. Someone sent me an offer for £10 for the pair. I said they could have them for a tenner if they collected. The bloke came over to my place and had his money out before I'd even opened the door. He took the trousers without checking them or trying them on. I shrugged and went about my evening - perhaps he was in a hurry?

So later he sends a message saying that the trousers are smaller than I'd said in the listing, and had I given him the right pair?

I reply apologising for the inconvenience, but that it was the only pair left, so there's no way I could have given him the wrong ones. However, if the item doesn't suit his needs, he's welcome to return it and I'll give him his money back. (Which, of course, I'm in no way obliged to do, since he's buying a second-hand item sold-as-seen and didn't even check it before leaving)

He then sends back an aggressive, angry, confrontational reply *demanding* that I go over to his place to pick up the item or pay for it to be posted back, generally being very rude.

I reply again stating that if he's not going to be polite, calm and reasonable, then I will not deal with him any further. I explain that there was obviously just a mistake with the listing and I have already apologised for the delay and offered a refund.

He then replied again, further demanding that I should collect the item or he'd "be letting E bay know about the item description should we not agree" by which he means if I don't comply with his ludicrous demands.

My final reply goes like this:

If you buy something from ASDA and you have a problem with it, does someone from ASDA come to your house to sort it out?

No. You go back to the shop and you speak politely to the customer service assistant and they help you. If you go in with a bad attitude, then you're likely to be escorted from the building by security.

You are obviously very upset by this simple mistake, which reaction is clearly far out of proportion to the problem. You are aggressive, confrontation and now threatening - when simply being polite and reasonable would get you much further.

You seem to have the mistaken impression that there is some sort of plot to sell you an item unsuitable for your needs. This is not the case. Obviously there was an error in the listing. Perhaps I mixed up the items on an earlier sale and sent someone else the larger trousers - but if so, they didn't contact me about it, so I don't

know. Perhaps I misread the tape measure I used at the time of listing, or made a typing error. I was

listing about 8 very similar pairs of trousers at the time.

As I did in the first reply to your notifying me of this problem, I apologise for this inconvenience, but your attitude is simply not conducive to a harmonious discussion.

Once again, and for the last time I will state that you may return the item for a refund - and I note that as

per the item listing, items are sold as seen, so I'm in no way obligated to offer you anything at all. I made the offer of a refund out of courtesy and good customer service, not because I'm obliged to do so. Your attitude is starting to make me regret this offer.

I might remind you that you're buying a used, second-hand item sold as seen. You were very eager to hand over your money almost before I'd opened the door, and didn't bother to inspect the item before leaving - that's not my fault.

So you can return the item, or not. You can be polite, or not. Your choice.

Now, honestly, can anyone tell me if I'm not being reasonable here?

I now greatly regret having left positive feedback for this clown before receiving feedback first... <_<

If you buy something from ASDA and you have a problem with it, does someone from ASDA come to your house to sort it out?

Spend £25 on shopping and they are more than happy to :P

I had a similar incident with a PC game i sold on eBay. The lazy #insert offence word# at the Post Office hadn't bothered to put the correct label on the item and so when it arrived the buyer had to pay about £1 postage to get the item from the PO(or POS as i call them). Now they had a rant at me about this claiming i hadn't paid for the correct postage so i sent them a scan of my reciept with the correct amount.

Now instead of asking me to send the receipt for them to make a claim or for me to make a claim and send them the £1 extra they just kept bombarding me with emails about giving them a full refund (was only £3 total but still). So i refunded them the extra £1 they had paid and when i decided to put a claim in myself they said it must be done at the buyers end, who after another arrogant email refused.

Beware eBay, that hang out of true morons sometimes.

Well, when I was a moron on Ebay, I at least apologized.

Also, *fruitcage* European bureaucracy. We had to send some important documents to get a refund from the EU for translating some important stuff or just perform an audit and send the report to the EU bureaucrat responsible. We chose the first way because SOME IDIOT here thought he'll save money this way. Now it turns out that our documents aren't exactly what they requested and suggest and audit instead. WE COULD HAVE DONE THAT A MONTH AGO, YOU *fruitcage* DOPES!

So, was he in the Army or just another walt?

Claimed to have been ex-RAF.

This was the email I got in reply to my email quoted above (which I received three times, for some reason):

Dear hedganian,

I expect a re fund in cash with me

- 247ian

Getting tired of this now, I replied

Dear 247ian,

I expect you to stop barking demands over the email and behave like an adult instead of a spoiled child.

- hedganian

Dear hedganian,

Ok, I could say very much ! so I will refrain, I think you should also ! remember what i told you when we met ? If you want to progress ? Do you want me to interfere ? I am familiar with PAM 21

- 247ian

(I'd made the mistake of having a bit of small talk with this guy when he collected the item, mentioning that I was going shooting with the Regiment this weekend.)

Dear 247ian,

Oh, we're making threats now? Yeah, that's a mature and reasonable attitude that's bound to work really well. I guess they taught you neither manners nor sense in the Air Force, if you were ever really in it. Why don't you try it? - I'm familiar with the police.

Talking to you is obviously a waste of time. Every message you send is more and more offensive. I, at least, have got better things to do with my time. I have blocked your ID from bidding or buying any more of my items, and will not respond to any further messages you send.

I then reported his message to eBay for being threatening and abusive.

On checking today, I've found he's left negative feedback saying:

Do not ever buy from this person, wrong description and abusive

Which I found interesting, considering the tone of his emails compared to mine...

Of course, eBay won't do anything about it. <_< Hell, in the UK, sellers aren't even allowed to leave anything other than positive feedback. <_<

The sheer injustice of it is what really gets to me. I think I'm fairly reasonable, maybe I made an error in the listing, all the guy had to do was return the item for a full refund - it's not like I was refusing to help him out, but he just wouldn't be reasonable...

And it's *MY* reputation that gets tarnished as a result... :(

To be honest i have had a bit of bad feedback but often if it is only 1-2 compared to 100-200 positive people seem not to care. I know i don't as 1 out of a hundred is about the number of dis-satisfied to satisfied customers i had to deal with when at Somerfield and Lidl.

It just makes me laugh when people put 'abusive' when they have been shouting down the phone or rudely emailing you like a chav mother that is having her baby taken away by social services.

And what is up with that 'seller can only leave posistive feedback' ######.

I have repeatedly complained to eBay about their ludicrous policy.

They claim it is due to buyers feeling "intimidated" about leaving negative comments about bad sellers in case they receive negative feedback in retaliation.

eBay.co.uk has, over the past few years, changed several things to make life harder for sellers and make the site more attractive to buyers, despite the fact that it's the sellers who pay for eBay. It's free for buyers.
