yup, thousands of people apply for any vacancies, for a job that is likely to be filled by a union member or a mate/relative of a current driver.

despite all this moaning about them, i do have sympathy for those who lost money through Labour's screwing them over the railtrack/network rail fiasco. many had taken advantage of the share save scheme so when Labour closed the company down they lost all their savings.

So, today, I finally got an email from the UK Border Agency about my box o' guns currently sat in one of their warehouses where it's been since the 12th of April.

Apparently when they received my proof of VCRA Defence, they contacted my site only to be told my membership has expired, but that I am a regular player. They are therefore refusing to release my parcel until such time as they get:

either written confirmation from First and Only Airsoft that you regularly attend airsoft events at their site, or confirmation that your membership has been renewed

This puzzled me, since I renewed my membership on the 27th of Jan this year - BEFORE it ran out. Also, since FAO confirmed with them verbally that they know me, I've been an airsofter for many years and play regularly, why do they insist that they must have it in writing? Don't they record official phone calls???

Anyway, so I contacted FAO, to be told that there had been some error on their database and my membership hadn't been updated, sorry, but they've fixed it now. <_<

Okay, great. Thanks guys. Now tell the UKBA that.

So I email UKBA again to tell them what's happened and ask them nicely to confirm the details with FAO.

So, maybe - just maybe - I'll actually get my box o' guns before I deploy overseas. Of course there's still ParcelFarce to deal with, even after the parcel is released from the Customs warehouse... :headbutt:

No it hasn't - it just flew from LAX to Heathrow, then was put on a truck and taken to Coventry where it's sat in a warehouse since the 12th of April...

That has more happening in the plot than Lost In Translation and I'm a big, Bill Murray fan.

That film was a bloody chore to watch. What exactly was the point. I know people want more realism in films but that was like watching a mediocre series of dates and people worrying about what to say at the next one.

Only when the bar tender broke out the TM MP5 did i wake up.

nothing happening <_<

Thats the plot, in, Lost In Translation...

Serious mode; I do hope it gets sorted soon for you. I do hate waiting for a parcel, when you know its close and is being delayed due because of other peoples actions. <_<

Well, there was an issue with being overcharged shipping, but I get the extra refunded without too much hassle, and I think they slipped in an extra pistol to say sorry, so even better.

But yeah, even with the defence, the VCRA has made importing a thousand times more difficult - more delays, more expenses, more frustration all around. More work for site owners having to check databases every time Customs ring up, more work for Customs having to stop and check anything with an RIF in it - with less people than they used to have to do less work, at that - more expensive since they have to warehouse more parcels while they check them, so the charges go up, plus you could sometimes slip through before without being charged, if you were lucky, no chance now, and more frustration for everyone.

I don't blame the Customs/Border Agency people, it's not their fault, they're just trying to do their job without enough support or resources. I'm not too pleased with FAO Airsoft at the moment, though, as their screw up has caused me extra delays - when I spoke to the UKBA on the phone they said they were ready to release the parcel, then I find out that actually they're not because of this issue... <_<

It's all very annoying.

Me again...

Today, I wake up to find my phone line isn't working. When I pick up the phone, there's no dial tone, but I get the echo of my own voice in the earpiece if I speak...

So after plugging and unplugging different phones and things into the socket to try to figure it out, I check on the VirginMedia website for help...

This is what I see:

There's a couple of possibilities here.

First, your telephone handset may be faulty. To check it, unplug the phone from the socket and try a different phone in the same socket (if you have one).

Next, unplug any devices you have connected to extension sockets, and test the master socket only. If you get a dial tone, the problem is with one of your extension sockets. If that's it, contact us

If you have done this and are still don't have a dial tone, there may be damage to the wiring or phone socket. Call our team on 0845 454 1111 and select the faults option.

Okay, great. If I can't fix my faulty phone line, I should PHONE you to report the fault.

How the hell am I supposed to do that, genius? :headbutt:

I remember them.

Damned if I know where the nearest one is...

You've got to admit, it's pretty stupid advice to give on a helpdesk page.

Why not have a link to their email support page? There is one, it just took me another ten minutes to find it... <_<

Odd that they did not have the email on the main page as it is often the first option.

Torn down as the majority of the country have a mobile phone now ;)

This might be lost a bit on the younger audience, but does anyone remember when we didn't need automatic barriers to check people's tickets on the way out of the station?

While I'm at it, remember when you didn't actually need a travel ticket to get on or off the platform? Or when the trains weren't massively overcrowded and overpriced, and even if you buy a ticket you struggle to get the seat you've paid for??

No, I don't either...

I do, almost all the time.

Derby & Nottingham is the only station I've been to with ticket barriers, I know there are a few more around here but Nottingham is the only one where I ever leave the station that has them, aside from that I've never needed one to get on the platform, never needed one to get off it either.

I can't remember the last time I've not been able to get a seat, it's been close a few times but I've always found one (usually means taking the reserved seat of some idiot who hasn't turned up) though, I don't really consider them overpriced either.

I can get to Manchester from here (around 45miles) for about £10 off peak as a return, it takes 34minutes on a Virgin train and marginally longer on Cross Country, there are always loads of seats and the trains to Manchester arrive and leave from Stoke every 10minutes.

Compare that to getting into town from my house on the bus (around 2 miles), it costs £3.50 for a return, often it's a 20minute wait for a bus to arrive and then another 20 - 30minutes for it to actually crawl into town even if there is no traffic and half the seats have no legroom for anyone above 5ft tall.

Trains are really a bargain in a number of ways, and lets not forget that both buses and trains are run by private companies, trains cost a hell of a lot more (£1m for a loco then a similar amount for each carriage, plus all the servicing and refits), they have to pay a lot of money out to Network rail to maintain the lines, iirc they contribute to the upkeep of the stations and the trains themselves are rented from another private company (Virgin trains don't own any of their trains, nor do the others). Nah, apart from pikeys stealing signalling cable all the time I don't really have any complaints about the trains.

This.

Ok, so the first thing that I don't get is why people insist on taking 'luxury cruises' round well-known world cesspools. It's their money, fine, whatever, but you want me to sympathise with you when you get attacked whilst sailing past Somalia? Yeah, right.

The main thing, however, is how these big faceless firms keep managing to squirm their way out of any significant compensation payouts in court. This time it was because they reckoned that this attack was the first known attack by pirates on a passenger vessel.

Sounds insane, but they probably got out of it by specifying that particular type of Somalian pirates, and not pirates in general.

They're the ones operating a cruise round these places with no on-board weaponary suitable for seeing off a pirate attack, and no escort.

This.

Should have taken a lightsaber :P

But i agree with 'why do people spend money to go to places like this' and 'why do companies get out of it by making up excuses'. It makes no sense that a company can simply work its way out an obvious issue that has occured on a journey.

Seriously though, well done that man with the deckchair!

Imagine your mum and dad going on a cruise they've spent half their working lives saving up for, and end up being shot, hit by shrapnel, and boarded by pirates, and THEN the cruise company has the gall to claim it wasn't legally their fault, and settles out of court for a ludicrously low sum.

Ben.

Out of court settlements are agreed with the claimant, the value and terms. If the claimants are happy to settle for a certain figure, and the company taking no responsibilty, whats it got to do with anyone else?
