Tw1tch
It's horrific isn't it? To think people take a game that seriously, makes even the moaniest airsofter seem reasonable. I'm lucky to be on leave but I'm getting pretty shaky reports from people working in my pub. We had 1500 people in.
Hedganian
Another thing...Why the hell isn't there a UK team, rather than England, Scotland, Wales and NI all separate? The UK is *one* country, not four - hell, the fifty states have more autonomy, but the USA still competes as a single country. You'd think a UK team would be stronger than the separate teams are, could that be the reason the international governing bodies don't want to change the status quo - there'd be more chance of Britain winning if they did? sandstorm
No UK team, because ypu tuys hate each other, and when Continentals wanted to start to play your ballgame, you rigged the rules to make sure that frogs had one chance in five to claim the world title instead of half... Well, that's probably conjecture...
Hedganian
Pretty sure that Britain doesn't have much say in the running of UAFA or FIFA - but it *does* seem like both organisations are less than well-disposed towards us...

Hedganian
Football is apparently more important than anything else. There's a road that goes past the local stadium, leads to the railway station amongst other places. When there's a match on, the police *close* the road because the supporters are too stupid to walk on the nice wide pavement.*fruitcage* anyone who might want to drive to the station to collect someone getting off the train, right? Football fans are more important...

scorch
I think the point here is that we have lives and that they don't stop just because some overpaid blokes are kicking a ball around.
Skarclaw
im not even a football fan but how often is there a world cup?? 4 years right? let people enjoy things and if you have difficulty getting to a train or whatever tough titties. so so so tedious. scorch if you reduce anything it sounds *suitcase*. Art 'just some paint on canvas' airsoft 'just playing dress up with toy guns' bla bla bla its so much more then that edit cause im on the war path: england lose and GROWN MEN are worried about 'hooligans' ??? even my mum isnt worried about hooligans!!! and she once rung the police cause she thought she saw the beast of bodmin (it was just a big labrador) having to dish out some hard truths here dont shoot the messenger!!! Hedganian
The local football team play pretty much every week. Every. Week. They don't own that road, they shouldn't be allowed to close it so their idiot fans can walk on it rather than the perfectly adequate footpaths that are right there. They are not more important than everyone else. 'Let people enjoy things'? I don't give a *suitcase* about people enjoying football - the comments above aren't about people enjoying football, though, are they? They're about vandalism and crime and preferential treatment. People could enjoy football without those things.

Yeah because trashing emergency service equipment, private property and smashing the *fruitcage* out of each other reeks of people enjoying themselves and totally isn't a problem... My pub has personally endured £5k+ in damages this tournament, and because of the sheer amount of people in we can't charge anyone. We had to stop kids coming into our venue last Saturday at 2 to stop them being trampled (one of the most important licensing objectives: Protection of children from harm). We've had people bottled over a *fruitcage* game... Your mum probably isn't worried because she's not likely to antagonize a bunch of up wankers. They'll be looking for people their own age to pick a fight with and even better if they're foreign because EN GER LAND
Hedganian
When they're setting *your* car on fire, will it be a problem then?
shmook
What Twitch and hedge said. I'm not overly worried as I won't be out in town when there's a game on. But many people are. Why should they have to watch their backs because a bunch of drunk buffoons decide to fight each other and/or smash things up? Did you see the ambulance getting jumped all over and taken off the road? The *fruitcage*ers were grinning whilst doing it. That's a first response vehicle out of action. Breaking it down into simple terms, putting lives in danger. Your mum has a stroke? Nearest unit will attend. What they don't say over the phone is that the nearest unit is now 6 miles away, trying to battle through streets packed with drunk idiots in the road, rocking vehicles and continuing to jump on them. Also, its not just every 4 years, football supporters will do this at the drop of a hat. Every week. Town centre roads get closed all the time bacause as hedge said, fans are too stupid to stick to the pavement, and have to be escorted like little children. It's pathetic Funny how I was never called to rugby fans getting out of hand, or tennis fans. Always football.
Skarclaw
you guys are acting like we in the middle of a civil war, you just sound really bitter and weird, go out and dress up as batman and good luck getting all the scum off the streets. edit and no hedge i'd be off if someone set your car on fire!! was your set on fire? oh no wait you just got a bit stuck getting to a station
Hedganian
Not sure what your problem is, exactly, or why you think it's okay for idiots to cause millions of pounds worth of damage and untold inconvenience to regular folks just trying to go about their day.I might remind you that this thread *literally* exists for just these complaints. No one is forcing you to read it or comment on things you don't agree with.
shmook
Skarclaw, you seem to go through these antagonistic stages every now and then, and don't you end up being hit with the banhammer for a bit once you go too far? Anyway, while hardly civil War, what gives someone the right to *fruitcage* up other people's *suitcase*? Why does that seem OK to you? I get that you are somewhat anti-establishment, but damaging people's personal things, or hindering what could be massively important plans/journeys bacause 'football' surely doesn't sit well, even with you? Skarclaw
Of course i dont agree with people smashing up cars etc, its so obviously 'not good'!! that really it doesn't bear mentioning. though tbh i couldnt care less about disrupted journeys - took me 2 hrs to get to work yesterday including sharing a cab and it was a total ballache but *suitcase* happens. my point is its getting a bit 'Helen Lovejoy' in here and the universe has to balance itself out..and yes my badboy reputation has got me in trouble but fair play rules are rules!!!
