*suitcase*. I read up on the labor regulations. Turns out that even if I hand the resignation tomorrow, I'm still supposed to work for the next three months, or less if the employer decides to terminate the contract by mutual agreement. So, however you spin it, I'm *fruitcage*ed, *fruitcage*ed or *fruitcage*ed.

I really don't know what to do.

A three month notice period is surprisingly long. It's normally only 4 weeks here.

It depends: if you worked less than half a year it's two weeks, between six months and three years it's a month, and for more than three years it's three months notice.

Mostly because if you worked for more than three years your work is supposed to be complex and important enough that you need to finish all your tasks if possible, instruct people what to do next, yadda yadda. In practice, if I bail now, I'll just keep passing notices submitted by people who don't give a *suitcase* to Brussels and Geneva, then file them in our system, the same tedious monkey that I did for the last eight soul-crushing years.

Use all your holiday leave up in those 3 months.

It's SOP to make people use their holiday leave up when they're leaving, in order not to pay them a money equivalent of unspent leave days. So if I decide to do so, they'll most probably want me to do it.

Also, I'm not so sure whether I can find a job these days. All the buzzwords and weirdly specific requirements make me puke, it's as there's no simple management/coordination job opening anywhere.

Mate of mine in Singapore works in an IT department, best of his whole division.  Will be out of work within 3 months because the higher management above does not want to renew contracts despite his direct boss wanting to keep him badly.

It just makes no bloody sense for a world that talks about dreams, opportunities, "labor shortages", and other bs, to have no inclinations to keep people who do honest work in their positions, or to even attempt to give a chance to those willing to learn what to do.

When they say "labor shortage", they mean "we need to lower wages, and we can't find anyone dumb enough to accept our lower wages". Someone can do a mediocre job and keep things afloat just enough to turn a profit for a company, hell, the mediocre end up being middle management after a few years.

I learned three things working for corperate: never sign anything, always play dumb and work with you're 'eyes shut'.

And if you're a contractor, just realize every place you go is temporary, and there is no job security and your dreams can go duck themself.

I love my job.

If that goes wrong I will join the police, probably in Scotland.

If it goes wrong and I am, for some reason, not married any more I will go and be a merc in Africa.

At the post office you got a week, if you had holiday left you just stopped coming in.

After the third year you got another week for each year served.

If you retired after 40 years at the post office your notice period was 38 weeks.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by merc? Like IT "specialist"? Private Sercurity? Some British guy with a gun, burning down village's and killing locals during the day, getting drunk and screwing hookers at night?

Sadly, I don't know your military backround.

Knowing Stunt?

Probably a bit of two and a smattering of three, with a good dose of compound security consultation.

Sounds like a fair backup plan to me.

Edit: I really don't know anyone on this forum, I kinda do my own thing. I still enjoy reading everyone's opinions and perspective, though. And since, it's pretty much a EU forum with a dusting of all kinds of other nationalities, it really opens my eyes to other cultures and their humor.

You've only got a handfull of posts under your belt, despite being a member for near a decade.

Join in more and you'll soon get to know us better :)

Also Stunt would probably do some diggery-stuff, whilst he was there, considering his job is working with diggers and things.

I know a guy with a mineral extraction business.  The money flowing out of the middle east as they want money right meow so are offering insanely lucrative deals for quick cash is crazy.

That would be good to get into if you have flexible morals.

"Killdozer".

I love that video.  We show it to the trainees.

Anyway, without going into too much detail I was a plant operator in the British Army and with those skills and the instructional skills I have I have the standing option of a job on pipeline protection.

Essentially there is a need for a person who can teach locals to operate, has military skills and can defend himself as necessary.

It's actually quite clever, in places the pipes have all the brush stripped away from near them and there is a stripe of sand on either side that is literally combed by devices dragged behind the patrols.

You can instantly identify if someone has approached within a few meters of the pipeline.

They are integrating drone technology, thermal imaging and such.  Lots of money about.

I have previously turned it down to stay here with my wife.  She is also the main reason I got out of the Army.

I think she is the only reason I function at all sometimes.

My wife has had a strong calming effect on me over time and has integrated me very well.  Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we split up or she died.

There are three options really.

1, I remain as I am now.  Somewhat awkward but broadly able to operate in society.

2, I return to how I was before.  An antisocial alcoholic bordering on demophobic/misanthropic.

or

3, I flip-flop all the way the other way and go out to Africa and shoot poor, uneducated people for going near a pipeline to retrieve a goat that is their only possession.

I don't know.

I am feeling quite nihilistic recently.

I'm in an even worse mental shape than yesterday if that's even possible.

Right now I don't even know if I want to quit because I'm afraid I won't find a job. The deadline for fixing that colossal *fruitcage*up is set for today afternoon, and I know exactly jack smack *suitcase* about what's being done about it. I wasn't told to do anything since I reported it first time yesterday morning.

And the worst, most insulting thing about it is that the auditor billed us for the equivalent 2k quid before taxes and failed to spot the obvious. THE *fruitcage* AUDITOR.

Aw...

On a different note, we're financially humped because the DWP apparently believe that if you go into hospital you no longer have to pay rent on your home or buy food for your family, pay your utility bills or any thing else, so they stop paying you.

Thanks, DWP...
