mtdarkwolf
The rep system doesn't need a cap or limit on how many reps per post. thats just stupid. the rep system is designed(originally only for sales, but now for everthing else) so that members of the forum could see what others though of a specific member. having 0 rep points doesn't mean your bad, it just means your not spectacular. the system is design so that when people notice something good or bad about someone they can comment on them and scold or commend them for it. now the only time the system is abused is when people give reps to people for disagreeing with them, or when people give rep s to havoc . joeking27
originally only for sales, but now for everthing else <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No its not, its never been just for sales.
Sledge
Unless you frequent "other forums" and have trouble coming to terms with a different system. Anyway, my suggestion for the rep system is that all negative reps be automatically rerouted to Havoc.

We might be able to get him below 200 with the current number....
Desolation mkII
How about for every rep given anywhere on the forums, Havoc gets a neg rep. That might just stem the tide.
Kingmob3
heres my thing: how do you give the rep points? I cant seem to find the form, however I can view all of a persons reasions for geting rep. thanks, as i wasent here when the system was instated. KM3
Prometheus
You need to have 50 posts. After that, whenever you think a person deserves a point, positive or minus... Click on the - or + sign on their little bar. That will bring up a window to put a comment in.
Kingmob3
Ah ha! now i know the secrete to the schwartz!

Psaldorn
What if everyone's reps were deleted then all users get a rep alloweance.. 1 a week or something. Members in different categories get more (post based) But the best way to earn more is to get yourself repped. So for every 50 rep points (positive) you have you get one more rep point a week? Might make people a little more careful how they rep and there would be less overall repping so less for the moderators to sift through. Negative rep scores for a person increase the amount of time they have to wit until receiving their next allowance.. or something. Only half-baked idea. Possibly have rep allowance in general, or negative and positive allowances? Also: Sure it's been said before but seperate rep system for the for-sale forums only? Basho
I think the rep system is fine as it is. They are an effective messure of your popularity, nothing more. If you want some sort of system, which says "Who can I trust?" then you need to use a more formal database. This is being done. Look at the Blogs section and the review database, they are an attempt to give a bigger voice to "quality" rather than threads full of spam.
Marlowe
They're not an effective measure of anything, really. They can be easily abused either by offended children who negrep those who disagree with them, or by other members by offering to post pictures of something or other or do something in exchange for rep points. The whole system as it stands doesn't really serve any practical purpose, in short. But hey, it's here, and it'll be more hassle to remove than to leave as it is, so we might as well just get on with things.

That would mean HaVoC would have twice as many rep points and Asso would have twice as many negative.... Wouldn't it just be making a bad situation worse? New scientific studies say that once havoc reaches 1000 points, Arnies will shut down because Arnie never inteded to have people have over 999. The World as we know it will be destroyed because Arnie didn't put in one more digit..... Remember Y2k? This is worse.... This will actually happen... It is called.................. [Drum Roll] H.R.K. Havoc, rep, Kilo (one thousand) Pray to Arnie that this will not happen!
BigAl
Not a suggestion but a rep related question. When your rep changes you get the message in red at the top of the page, how do you get rid of it?

screamin_weasel
yeah sometimes i have to refresh the page after pressing the red message.
Prometheus
I never have to refresh, although.........when I do click on the red text, it still shows up when I go to the rep page. Then, I just click the "forums" button on the lefthand navbar and it always goes away. Hey, someone +1 me so I can test this theory. ~P
