CYMA CM028S (AK47S)

Recommended Posts

If I mod is reading this could you kindly delete my other thread about this gun?

Large pics, may take a while to load. Excuse for some of the blurines in some of the pics, my camera's lense's weren't meant for close ups at all.

Anyways I'll put a bit about myself to make the point I'm not some noon posting this gun is great simply becuase it's cheap and shoots more than a thousand rounds without breaking. The guns I've owned are:

KJW G23 FMV

TM AUG civilian

TM M4

TM P226

CA G36k

TM M14 OD

plus some other random springers and mini's. I've been airsofting for about three years now.

Now onto the review:

CYMA CM028S

PICT0002.JPG

After a long ride to Tampa to get the package and getting into my house I opened up the package. The first thing I saw was a Well M4 that JT sent me for free, it didn't last to long... After digging past the M4 I got the AK. The box had a illustration of an AK47S and engrish written all over it. By the way if you ordered a CM028 and don't recieve a package like the one below than chances are you got sent the wrong gun.

PICT0016.JPG

The foam box is wrapped in a plastic sheet you must remove to get to the gun and accessories. After removing the sheet you greeted with a fairly pleasant sight.

PICT0015.JPG

The accesories included are a sling, battery, charger, magazine, loading rod, and BB's. The sling is of decent quality and it's what I've been using so far but I have a KA AK sling coming in soon that will probally be much better. The battery is wrapped in black shrink wrap and doesn't have adny indication of it's type, but the box says "1200 maH 8.4v" . Charger is not much to brag about, standard wall slow charger. Mag is plastic and holds 300 rounds according to the manual, after a full winding it feeds about 80 rounds without misfeeding. I haven't even tooken the BB's out of the package and have no intention of using them, they are marked as .20g.

First thing I noticed was the excellent fake wood finish. When one person saw it he though it was real wood until I told him otherwise (you know who you are). Compared to TM it is darker and has more grain marks. I daresay the fake wood is just as good if not better than TM. Unfortunaly I forgot to take comparison pics but you have my word the wood is just as good as TM. Doesn't matter much to me really, as I have a G&P wood kit coming in.

I had put a sanyo 600maH battery on the charger before leaving to pick up the gun. So I removed the reciever cover, which is metal, just like TM, and popped in the battery. I ook a couple dryfire shots and guestimated the ROF to be about 750 rounds per minute. (Later on I will measure it excactly though) I filled the hicap with BB's (excel .20g) and wound it. Man, the mag is a *badgeress* to get in, first try required me too flip the gun upside down and jam it in. TM mags and a king arms drum mag fit like a glove though, there's nothing wrong with the magwell itself.

Battle scrathed reciever cover:

PICT0010.JPG

I went outside and fired some rounds to get the hop up adjusted, properly adjusted max range is about 150'. I then proceeded to my 41' target range, after setting up a target I let a couple rounds loose and checked the target, 4" groupings, not bad for an aluminum barrel. I fired the entire 300 rounds in the mag, some of my bursts were as long 30 rounds long. Fired point blank at a soda can it went through one side and left a large dent on the other side. That night I fired about 800 rounds though it, no problems, TM level performance, nice externals (except for the stock), I was feeling good about my $100 dollar purchase. The next day though, was a large 8 hour game, I'll get in to that later. Conclusion, performance is stock TM AEG level, not as good as my M14 but that is to be expected.

Hop up:

PICT0011.JPG

Regarding the stock, it is quite wobly, it goes up and down about 2 inches. I don't know if the TM stock does that but I'm guessing it does.

PICT0006.JPG

In game the AK was great, only problems were the crappy mag and wobly stock were it's only problems. I was a bit out ranged using it becuase most of guns at the game were 350 and up, but that's what I have my M14 for.

The externals are pretty good. The reciever is plsatic but has a gun metal grey finish to it and resembles metal. As I said earlier the receiver cover is metal and it is darker than the receiver. The gas tube and front sight are a heavy metal with a thick, semi-glossy finish, most likely a zinc alloy. The outer barrel and cleaning rod are a flat black aluminum. The front sight wiggles, but after tightening the screw underneath it movement is minimal. The front sight is adjustable for elevation and it comes with a tool to adjust it, but I already lost it. The rear sight is metal and also adjustable for elevation.

Front sight and barrel:

PICT0013.JPG

Rear sight (but the camera focused on the handguard, sorry):

PICT0012.JPG

It has what believe to be AK trades, the triangle with bolt thing running down the middle. Of course the "made in china" on the other side kinda ruins it.

Taking down AK's is hell of a lot harder than G36's, I wouldn't reccomend taking down this rifle if your technically incompotent and/or new completely new to AEG's. I wouldn't reccomend using this as a guide to strip your AK, use a more detailed guide.

PICT0017.JPGThe first step to taking her down is to remove the "plastic thing above the gearbox, dunno what the actual name is. Taking it off requires taking off the hop lever and little screw to the right of charging handle.

PICT0018.JPG

Remove the grip, but remember how the wires are positioned, it helps later on.

PICT0021.JPG

Remove the four screws on the bottom of the gun, two are in the magwell, two are behind the grip. Then seperate the front section from the rear section. Remove the selector switch and finally take the gearbox from the reciever.

Random pic of the hop up, CYMA decieded to use a O-ring type system where two points of an O-ring serve to provide hop up, similar to G-spec hop up.

PICT0019.JPG

Now to the gearbox, first glance revealed nylon bushings, decent looking motor, and not so good looking wiring.

PICT0023.JPG

Opening it proved easy becuase CYMA uses philps head instead of torx screws like TM.

Gears look fine, infact they made from steel and resemble reinforced type gears from brands such as CA, and G&G. They were labeled "XYT" They are said to used in STAR guns as well.

PICT0024.JPG

Trigger assembly is made of clearish, brown, plastic, contacts are made of copper I believe.

PICT0025.JPG

Piston compared to a TM piston, TM appeared better. The CYMA one had mold lines and made of a softer materiel.

PICT0026.JPG

Notice the nozzle and cylinder head are made of clear plastic. The airseal was decent, about what I would expect out of stock CA, TM airseal is a bit better though.

All in all the gearbox is pretty darn good, definitly not something I'd expect to see in a $100 gun.

Note about cylinders: My systema silent cylinder head didn't fit because the tabs the head go into are a bit larger than usual. I'll be making the head fit by boreing out a slightly larger hole in the cylinder head. Something like a dremel or a lathe would work fine to bore out a hold, it's only a MM or so anyway. Also, the stock spring was sufficiently wide that it did not fit in an systema piston.

Parts I'll be installing this weekend:

Systema silent piston kit

Guarder SP100

Rewire everything

Prometheus nozzle

G&P wood set

My final thought and conclusions about this gun.

TM pretty much got equaled in every respect with CYMA's latest release. While not as good as ICS's or CA's AK variants it does hold it's own against the TM AK. In fact I see no point to get any more TM guns unless they are the only ones that make the gun your after. Anyway, I see no reason you wouldn't get this gun if your after an AK47, it's truely great.

I'll be updating this thread on friday or saturday when I get everything installed. In the meanhile I'll try to answer your questions as best as possible, though that could be hard since I go to a boarding school.

nice review! the images were big enough to see, but the file size was small enough to load relatively fast, very well put together review and good choice of down sampling the images.

Gun looks great btw. I'm always surprised by how good the imitation wood looks on the these cheaper gun. It seems that it is not a difficult technology to copy nicely.

I wanna know if the stock cylinder head is durable enough for an upgrade spring? And is there a way to really tighten the large screw in the stock so that the stock doesn't wobble anymore?

If you kept the velocity below the forum limits I'd imagine it would be fine for a while, though it would best to replace if your going above 1J.

Thanks, the wood really is great, just as good as TM IMO.

Looks pretty damn good! best fake wood i've seen in a while...i had to re-read your post to check it actually was fake...pretty nice looking gun

Now, where can i get one delivered to the UK hmm

Yeap, as I said, one of freinds was in shock when I told him it is CYMA.

BTW I think I know of place in HK that sells it, let me check.

Edit- here it is. I'm pretty sure the person that owns that website did a review on this site for this very gun as well.

I got this Gun too. delivered from GunnerAirsoft with fanatstic service!

Nice review and partial strip guide Hustie, you really helped me out and did this gun justice!

Its wierd, The Hi cap has been feeding and inserting perfectly for me(try a spray of silicon) also my stock only moves approx 1cm, it was alot tighter when i first recieved it i believe. All in all a great gun, I bought this as a base to turn into a Krinkov AK, upgrades on the way:)

If you dont mind me asking mate how much did the gun end up costing you, with shipping.

And any customs charges?

Cheers

EDIT: And does anyone know if the full stock version (CM028) is the same quality.

Removing the stock leaves two massive holes in the side of the receiver.

Also, has anyone figured out to tighten the stock? Mine wobbles quite a bit, it just kinda lowers the 'karma' of the gun overall if you know what I mean. Because mine, quite literally wobbles about 2-3 CM up and own.

Either GunnerAirsoft, or Sunnywarehouse.

GA has a good track record, and SW is a bit unknown. The prices are bothe the same.

Full stock is exactly the same except with a full stock.

Also, a word of warning: The Hop-up is not TM-IB compatible. If you replace the hop-up unit however, it should work.

Nice review, and spare gearboxes available at $48, wish I`d seen this a few months ago, I wouldn`t have bothered buying a TM AK to replace my blown one

you won't regret if you got a TM already...still the quality inside are so good enough than the 028s...the trigger/contact parts is low quality BUT fair enough for the price.

True, and you reminded that I forgot to add the 'spring issues' . The ARL and the triger spring are excessively powered, causing me to curse several times during reassembly.

the trigger tends to stock up and needs to put some silicon on the slider side...

the trigger spring makes me almost got crazy... :flamed:
