I was kicked and banned from the IRC channel a few days ago by Ubar (i know this because i got a warning saying "Kicked and banned by Ubar" and now every time i try to join the server it says "Cannot join #airsoft address is banned", it doesnt really bother me, i would just like to know why, if its because i swore, once, did you even bother to see what everyone else was saying? (i cant say it here because i'll probabally get banned from Arnies altogether) Lets just say the N-bomb was dropped a few times by certain individuals ;)

Im not being angry or anything, im sure you had a valid reason, i just dont see it :)

(P.s - I didnt know where to put this so if mods have a better place for it, feel free to move it there :))

if you ask me the IRC is very elitist. unless your one of 'the irc crew', you dont tend to ge talked to much. i very very rarely go in there, but tbh getting banned for being stupid ?

thats all that goes on in there,

but hey, if you dont like it dont get in there, thats my way.

Basically, it was probably a joke and Ubar forgot to unban you ;) I'll tell him to do it if you give me your username?

I wouldn't take anything said on IRC as the truth; there are too many injokes and outjokes all dripping with scathing sarcasm. Just laugh and come back with something better :P

Screamin', usually it's not everyone elses job to initiate a conversation with you, you have to make the first, tentative step. As you said tho, fair does, if you don't like the atmosphere then you don't have to come on. Having said that, I feel we have a good atmosphere on IRC :)

If you've got the date and time i can look through logs to see what happened, you probably just caught him in a ginger moment.

edit1: Misfit is a cock anyway, not sure why hes not banned yet. :P

edit2: rizzo, you're next

Just a note to clarify things here.

At the moment, the only connection that the IRC channel and this forum has is a link from this site pointing people to the chat room. The IRC channel is NOT managed by the staff of the forum, and is NOT managed to the same rules. As a result, if you were booted from IRC by Ubar, your best bet is to PM the user himself (assuming "Ubar" on IRC is the same "Ubar" that has an account on these forums of course), asking for an explaination.

Apologies that I cannot help further.

R22. ;)

Indeed, If you have need to contact someone about a problem you have with the chatroom, leave the mods be, they get more than enough work dealing with the massive sigs, porno avatars, folk asking to upgrade there AEG to 7500fps or who hissing sid was, they really don't need to be dealing with PMs asking why Ubar banned you for useing racist comments.

Instead, as R22 said you should talk to either the person who banned you, or if you don't actually know why you can't connect you should get in contact with one of the IRC ops who are Myself, Joeking27(D^ve on IRC), Ubar and Ronan Keating(who sometimes goes by the name Marlowe on the forum and IRC).

....and Ronan Keating(who sometimes goes by the name Marlowe on the forum and IRC).

<_>

MT05: As R22 stated the IRC channel is owned currently by Cazboab and was set up by him after the server upon which the Arnies IRC channel was based literally caught fire (I don't think it could keep up...). The IRC chatroom is provided as a service to Arnies uses to use or otherwise as you see fit, and the only real association between the IRC operators there and the Moderators here is that I serve as both.

Feel free to rejoin by the way. Cazboab has removed the ban (well, he's removed all of them, presumably so that he can have the fun task of banning all the abusive and aggressive members as they rejoin), so you should be able to reconnect. :)

Screaming Weasel: regarding your 'elitist' comments, I'm afraid I couldn't agree with you in the slightest. I am sorry to hear that you felt ignored on the chatrooms, but as many younger individuals fail to appreciate (not a slight, but merely an observation based upon the average age of the individuals who feel the same way), the chatroom is a synchronous communication media, unlike the forums where everyone has time to take stock of everyone else's comments and reply.

Basically, if you join while a heated debate / conversation is occurring, and then decide you want to talk about something else, there is neither any guarantee or obligation that other users will participate in that conversation too.

This may seem unfair, but try suddenly randomly changing the conversation in real life at the pub (if you're old enough - don't want to be seen to be encouraging underage drinking!). If your friends area discussing their dream car and you decide to suddenly talk about why your aeg isn't working, they're likely to give you at best a courteous response then go back to their topic!

But, as you said, the best approach if you don't like the service we provide is to simply not use it. As the moderators do here, we manage things in our spare time and benefit in no real-life way from our purely voluntary activity. We simply don't have time to pander to every tom, ###### and harry who feels they should be the centre of attention. :)

Rizzo - i realise its not everybody elses job to start talking to me if i just turn up, but when you DO appear in the middle of what is obviouslt something onyl certain people knwo about, you cant get a word in edgeways really, unless you use the personal thingymajig.

Marlowe - im 20, and i realise you cant just butt in on other people conversations and change the subject - unless youre carefully skirting around a touchy subject with the missus about lol.

perhaps 'elitist' was the wrong word, but i cant really think of one to actually describe it like elitist, but less harsh lol. its just whenever im in there, its always the same few people having the same types of conversation nobody else can get into.

thats what i meant.

i appreciate the IRC doesn't accomodate fro everybody, and hence why i stay away mostly. tbh i only ever use it when i need a quick answer for a question thats not worth making a thread for.

so yeah, glad i cleared that up a bit.

Weasel: Fair enough. As Dave has just suggested you were probably after cliquey (less negative connotations), which is fair enough. :)

I would argue to be honest that after hearing you explain what you meant a bit more that the reason we have a few people speaking most of the time is because the channel is fairly small. We have lots of visitors but for the main part there is about ten to twelve regular users who constitute the main members actively communicating on there.

That by no means should exclude other people, but as has been said, it just requires a bit of tact and patience - which is where a lot of the younger posters who join and complain because their first action is to interrupt another conversation with 'why is my m4a1 not working' and do not receive a response in the next sixty seconds.

Anyway, horses for courses. Everyone's welcome to come on the chatroom (provided you're not banned of course, which no-one currently is... :D), so long as you play by the general rules Arnie imposed (which can be found via the 'Chatroom' link) when he associated the IRC channel to the forums. The chances are so long as you follow the rules (especially the 'be nice' one, as that's where a lot of people run into difficulty for some reason) and display a sense of humour or at least tolerance of those with one (it's not the forums after all, so a lot of off-topic banter goes on), you'll be welcome back time and time again.

Anyway, I think this thread has run its course now. MT05 isn't banned any longer, and is free to ask Ubar the reason why he was banned (although I can't always guarantee a coherent answer). If anyone wants to add anything, feel free to do the usual 'Report' thing or just PM me. :)

Just a quick note from myself echoing what has been said,

I haven't received any personal correspondence about this issue. My username here is the same as on IRC so feel free to raise any queries directly
