sekiryu
Giving that to conventional infantry would be like giving a hand grenade to a baby. And according to this magazine, New York SWAT has one of these. Why the hell does SWAT need a M82?! As you said, it would go through the bad guy, through a concrete wall, and hit a hostage or bystander.
Jagdraben
To put a bullet in an engine block. That's why Coasties have them.
sekiryu
Yeah, I forgot about the CQ going to the USCG... Damn, now I want to join the Coast Guard: They've got a smaller M82 and Steyr AUGs....
Jagdraben
I doubt they'll have the AUG for much longer. Look for the HK416 or G36 to replace it in the near future. Why? USCG is part of DoHS and H&K is the official firearm supplier for DoHS. Of course, I doubt they'll be replacing their M240s with MG4s or their Barret M95s for PSG-1s. Jagdraben
Not if you want to switch hands. And I rather prefer the ergonomics of the G36 to the HK416. Of course, the ergonomics of the Type 89 are far superior to those of the G36 and the HK416.
sekiryu
You can switch hands on an AUG, you just have to tilt the rifle so you don't eat brass.
Jagdraben
And anyone who knows anything about guns will tell you that that's complete BS. Tilting any gun off to the side will render attempts at accurately sighting a weapon useless.
sekiryu
Not completely to the side. I read it from some AUG owner on militaryphotos.net/forums. He was able to fire left handed accurately without getting brass in the face.
Jagdraben
I'd still prefer an F2000 (or a conventional rifle) for switching between which hand I'm using.
