HaVoC
Just a quick question... The STAR L85A2 AFV - I've been looking, but no-one seems to have one. I guess most people think it's ugly Anywho, I notice Fire-Support sell it with a custom battery pack. Is it incapable of fitting a normal mini pack (8.4v, 600mAh) in the foregrip? I've never even seen one so I've no idea how much room there is up that end. Cheers
HKG36
eHOBBYASIA sells the type of battery pack for it.
HaVoC
Yeah, I know. So do Zero One. My question is, will it ONLY take these custom packs, or will it take standard minis as well?
Sao
Gah stupid double post
Sao
Surely you can work that out? What is the cutom pack made up of, is there a piccie of it? If so just find the size of the cells and voila that'll give you the room in the foregrip and a very good idea if a mini pack will fit or not. Looks like std GP1100 (mini) pack to me, but with the cells flipped round 90 degrees from your normal 'stick' pack to make a 'saddle' pack.
HaVoC
I'm not sure if there's room either side of the battery or what, though. Ideally someone with an AFV could post a photo and that'd sort it all. Otherwise it's all guesses.
Sao
I suppose you could pick up a phone and call zero one and ask them? Or are you one of these internet nutters that fears talking on a phone incase the government is sending out brain altering waves down the phone lines?
HaVoC
Yeah, something like that Fair point, I was just hoping someone might actually own one, y'know
Sao
Yeah I know FWIW A std 7 cell GP 1100 (Mini) pack is about 102.5mm long x 34mm wide The AFV pack is 119mm Long x 28.5mm Wide so It could well be a width issue

HaVoC
Meh. If standard minis won't fit, looks like it'll be the standard L85A2, then I can't be bothered buying a whole new pair of batteries, frankly.
Sao
Can you solder? Will your other guns take the cutsom pack's? If so just re-make your existing batts into customs and job done SA80 FTW
HaVoC
I can't solder for toffee, and my MP5 wouldn't take them anyway (too long to fit in the foregrip). Ah well.
sadigh
Standard minis will fit, but it will require you to remove the upper receiver as well to insert/remove the battery.
HaVoC
Marvellous, that leaves this as a possibility then Do you have one, dude?

I was wondering if I also need to buy the custom batteries you sell or if it'll work with mini's that I already own?" Can anybody guess what the reply would be?

Good point there, commercialism hits an all time high HaVoC - I don't have one, but a guy at my local skirmish field has one, and thats what he does with his.

1st Commando
that puts calling ZeroOne out of the window then Frank and John at Firesupport tend to give straight answers without the BS
jonarthur
yay someones talking about them im thinking about getting on aswell , i got afew questions .. are they anygood ? seems like they got a small inner barrel? can they be used by a lefty? if yes can a lefty use the susat ? could you fit a bigger batt in there ? like a 9.6 ? sorry if these questions have been asked ..
Stealthbomber
In airsoft, the only thing that stops you using the L85 as a lefty is the cheek-rest. That's still on the left side with the bolt-cover on the right so it might be a bit lumpy on your cheek to fire as a lefty. No reason you couldn't use a susat as a lefty. The barrel runs half way through the receiver as well so it's probably at least as long as an MP5 barrel, maybe longer. You don't see many of these around simply because they're expensive and, unless you're minted or very boring, you only buy a single gun of any type. Given the choice between the AFV and a regular L85, most people will opt for the normal gun.
HaVoC
For all those doubting Zero One... We gave the AFV in stock. They can take a mini battery, however a custom one would be better since it will sit in the gun nicer and will give you more capacity. Regards, Zero One Airsoft
