M1 Grand
Hey I have been looking at the TM G-Spec as my sniper purchase but got to wandering if maybe a gas sniper would be better. I think Spring will be more consistand once upgraded but what do you think?
Ego Terrorist
I've never used a sniper rifle before, but from what I understand... A spring sniper rifle will fire at a more consistent FPS. And from my experiences with springers and GBB pistols I'd imagine that you'd save a bundle with a G-Spec as you would not have to buy gas all the time and you'd be able to use the spring rifle in low temp conditions unlike a gas rifle would probably have difficultly operating effectively in the cold weather. (Specialist gas...or...keeping the mags warm would be a potential solution.) So I suppose it would be best to go with the springer if you're getting a sniper rifle. Any more questions? SwatMP5man
I would suggest the TM G-Spec as a first sniper rifle any day, very good range from stock, very good hop unit, very quiet and its also very upgradable for later on in your airsoft career.
-FIDO-
if its you first gun i wouldnt recomend a sniper rifle, it could be very frustrating for a beginner, especially when the sniper rifle is not upgraded and easy outranged by any aeg i mean if you are a sniper you have the disadvantage of no semi or full auto every shoot has to be cooked up and as sniper you need that extra range (more fps) and a good camo to extinguish the disadvantages... now to you question gas or spring: depends on how you want to use your gun... if you play also winter games, gas is rather useless also fps varies a lot with gas-guns
Lex
Afternoon all, I've been considering a sniper rifle for a while, but I'm left handed making bolt action rifles problematic (to problematic for me any way) and I'm reluctant to buy gas, for the reasons given above. Any one recommend a solution for a south paw sniper? Like where to get a left handed bolt action!
renegadecow
Unless TM or Tanaka churns out a replica of the Savage, pretty much all the bolt action rifles around pull from the right. But still, you can use a right handed rifle just as efficiently if you shoulder on the left. Regardless if springer or gas, your firing hand (left) stays on grip while the support hand (right) pulls the bolt. Shoulder the weapon while doing this so you have an anchorage point. As for the topic, gas rifles do churn out more power but are harder to tune. Springer rifles are more consistent but are generally of lower power. So if you have no intention (or will be breaking the law) in bringing a gas rifle to its absolute fps limit, then the G-spec is the better choice.
M1 Grand
Hey, I do have an AEG so this is not my first gun:) I think the G-Spec is also the better way to go but wanted your professional opinions:) I would plan on upgradeing it with maybe a Zero Trigger after a while but not right away. Thanks all John (M1)
Stealthbomber
After a bad experience with a KJW M700 I'd always recommend spring sniper rifles. You can tune a spring rifle to shoot just as hard as a gas one and it'll always be much simpler and more reliable due to having less parts. Gas rifles are easier to cock but suffer due to temperature changes. Spring rifles are more consistant but are harder to cock. My KJW M700 was pretty complicated and diagnosing problems with it was a pain. By contrast, my Warrior L96 is very simple AND the spring isn't really that hard to cock. M1 Grand
Spring it is know what about the G-spec vs Pro sniper? Is the G-Spec the better gun, it cost more so I assume that is is a little better?
cvrfc1326
I'd recommend a G-Spec, it's what I use. It comes with a rail on top and sling mounts. Also, you can get a gas cylinder for a G-spec. Instead of the Zero Trigger, I went the other way, and it worked out fine. I've never used a G-spec with a zero trigger, so I cannot and will not judge the two against each other.
Wupjak
Another vote for the G-Spec. I owned one and loved it. Stock they're VERY accurate. Upgraded they're both accurate and long-reaching. Good choice.

Any one recommend a solution for a south paw sniper? Like where to get a left handed bolt action! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Im a southpaw and i use a TM Gspec, i tilt the rifle to the side and reach over with my left hand and cock my rifle, although in january im getting a custom 3 peice set made so my rifle can be bolted with my left hand as normal. only rifle that has a left hand bolt is the APS rifle (not sure which one) but the aps sucks tbh. Here is what I am thinking 1st and 2nd sear M170 spring piston head spring guide spring guide stopper Will this do? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You need a cylinder head, and I'd HIGHLY recommend a metal piston. I don't think there is a such thing as a piston head for a G-Spec. I used DeepFire sears (the main big one and the smaller triangular one come assembled together, i forget the specifics) in my gun, and they worked great. Everything else I used was Laylax, which is top notch stuff.
camilion705
Check out the Sniper Haven sub forum under "The Game" on the main forum page if you haven't already. Lots of info!
sniper_boi
Gas is tempermental, depending on which part of the USA your from, if your from Nevada region, then gas is an ideal choice as it doesnt go all haywire an eject all the gas...(As it does in the UK on bad days) Spring is imo, the better choice, lots of upgrade potentials, not tempermental, can be used in all weather situations, quiet, less expensive and alot more fun, plus they come in all Varients.
