Custom HiCap Boxmag
(please note that this is not an original idea)

SO WHAT IS IT? For anyone who's never seen one of these, they are simply a huge rectangular box that dangles in place of the standard ammo magazine. They can normally carry around 2000 bb's. As my SG1 is either used in a sniping role, or as a light support weapon, the extra ammo will be very useful.

WHY REBUILD SOMETHING SOMEONE HAS ALREADY PUT INTO PRODUCTION? Unfortunately, they cost around £90, which I cannot currently justify spending on such a relatively simple accessory. From the information following, I'm sure you'll agree that the difference between the standard hi-cap and the boxmag is not worth the extra £50.

SO WHAT IS THE PLAN? Scott over at Section6, kindly sent me a mail with the basic instructions to do this. I'm certain that many people have attempted this, but I thought it was worth putting here, to aid anyone interested in taking on such a project.

The custom magazine' is an end-on section view. The top of the hi-cap is where the bb's come out The 'workybits' is where the cog for winding the magazine is:

The current plan is:

The advantages of doing this are simply that it's a lot cheaper than purchasing the real thing, as you can currently get a hi-cap mag for around £25. The plan is to weld the box up from thin 2-4mm steel with a handy mig-welder that a relative of mine has, then paint it in the infamous 'plasti-coat' and Hammerite.

WHAT IF YOU WANT TO DO MORE ? If I get greatly involved I may well drive the mechanics inside the box electronically. Again this is relatively simple: I have it on good authority (again from Scott@Section6 ) that the winder at the bottom of the mag, has a hex drive on the side of it. Hopefully I can get a cheap electric screwdriver attached to it, and drive it from that.

As always I'll add more info here as and when it becomes available.
