What is Mil-Sim (Military Simulation)?
Mil-Sim (or Military Simulation) is
an off-shoot of Airsoft Skirmishing. It is a game with pretty
much the same rules, but additional features that emphasise the
military aspect of play.
For example, here is a comparison
between the way a lot of people play Mil-Sim and Skirmish games...
Mil-Sim Player Profile |
Skirmish Player Profile |
Covert
military tactics used to best effect |
Charge
around yelling with your finger on the trigger, usually
hitting everything but the enemy |
Good,
reliable tactical clothing helps you win the day |
Your
'tactical' clothing with a bit of old dry paint on the
leg, becomes shreds of cotton as you fail to impress the
rest of your team-mates with your "Superman" dive over
that barricade |
A night
vision scope is excellent for night missions |
You join
hands with your team-mates as you lead each other
blindly around a dark field. The batteries are
dead in the only torch |
Make your
shots count as your ammo is limited |
Shoot a
good burst at
anything that looks suspicious. Remember
to apologise if you hit one of your own team-mates or a
marshal |
A
Mil-Simmer's best work is done as part of a team |
"What team
are we on, Kev?" |
Accurate
Semi-Auto fire gets the hits and conserves ammo |
Many
airsoft skirmishers have wished for a "Super-Auto"
feature on their gun, for those moments when you just
can't hurl enough plastic at your enemy quick enough
with Full-Auto (which is most of the time if we're
honest) |
Now this might be a bit of an
exaggeration, but you get the idea. Airsoft skirmishing is
more of a game, whereas Mil-Sim is taken more seriously. It
has to be as it's the only way it can work.
Mil-Sim games are very good
simulations made possible by the realism of the replicas and the
amount of high quality ancillary kit there is available. The
games can include medics to get you back on your feet after you've
been 'hit', detailed scenarios with many different objectives, and
even
Mil-Sim is usually played on fully
insured airsoft skirmish sites pretty much everywhere.
