For nearly four decades the African Mediterranean state of Western Samara has existed under the dictatorship of Muammer Al Daquaffi. With ruthless determination he has controlled all aspects of the country.

Following events in neighbouring countries, civil unrest has exploded into a violent civil war. A revolution is underway & threatens to consume all in its path. Western nations have acted quickly evacuating their citizens by air & sea.

In the Western Samara interior of the Atlas mountain foothills, British citizens working within the petrochemical industry are trapped in isolated worker compounds. With only small teams of privately contracted, lightly armed, security personnel as protection they are in highly vulnerable positions.

The UK govt has determined that maintaining the stability of the oil supply from the area is in the national interest so in recent months, as tension has increased in the country, MI6 assets have been infiltrating the security details that protect the workers compounds & gathering intelligence.

UK SF teams have been HALO inserted from RAF Hercules staging out of Malta & established CTR’s on the workers compounds. At 0400hrs local time, Thurs 9th June 2011, the CTR teams entered the compounds meeting no resistance & linked up with the protection personnel & established secure perimeters before escorting the workers in locally sourced civilian vehicles to pre-arranged landing sites where 2 RAF Hercules aircraft & additional SBS personnel were waiting.

With the intention of launching a further extraction mission, a four man SBS team has remained in the area of the compounds with the security personnel detail including the MI6 agents who are in possession of crucial intelligence. Due to lift capacity of the aircraft assets two lifts are required to safely extract all personnel. UK forces intention is to re-task the Hercules aircraft to the same landing site for extraction 0300hrs Friday 10th June.

Following the rescue mission the story has broken in the UK media & subsequently worldwide. The untimely revelations have identified the fact that MI6 agents were infiltrated several weeks prior to the rescue operation. As a result, significant enemy forces, still loyal to the beleaguered dictator, have quickly mobilised & overran the unoccupied landing site overnight Thursday. They are aware that UK forces & the civilian security detail are cut off & alone in the area. The press reports of MI6 agents being involved have aggravated an already dangerous situation.

A further extraction mission using the Hercules aircraft from Malta is now no longer possible. CDS in liaison with Director Special Forces immediately re-tasks the recently returned SBS teams in Malta with the initial mission with an immediate HALO insertion into the area in an attempt to link up with, support & escort the cut off UK personnel.

Meanwhile enemy forces are saturating the area looking for the cut off team.
