  1. Progress: Phase II

    f0x8no.jpg

Planning on a single volume and maybe two tone pots. The killswitch will be placed closer to the strings, but I haven't decided exactly where yet.

I also have something different planned for the selector.

I've changed the strings and got to properly play it. I was surprised how weighty the basswood felt.

Here's an axe I made for everyday use and on a budget, still a work in progress:

    RG 450 neck

GFS RG basswood body (~$20 blemished)

Kahler 2760 Steeler ('80s licensed Floyd Rose, 'Lawsuit era' discontinued IIRC)

    To do:

    -X2N and D-Activator X pickups

    -Proper wiring and jack installation

(I've tested it, but had to hard wire it with alligator clips to a cable)

    -Selector switch

-New set of strings and adjustment

  3. NICE!!Got a daughter/little sister? :D Needs a Leon photo shoot.

I don't think I know anyone that fits the look of a young Natalie Portman, I'm afraid.

But I think I can do a close Jean Reno/Leon. I just have to get a big wool coat, knit hat, round shades, and grow a scruffy goatee.

I have a little sister, a friend who is the absolute twin of Jean Reno and several friends who are professional photographers.

    Hmmm...

Just send me the gun and I'll do you an awesome photoshoot.... ;)

    No dice. :tongue2:

  4. Something a bit different:

Just finished this one up a few days ago and haven't even had the chance to shoot it yet.

I'm planning to take more pics of it soon.

Maybe I should get some pics of it on top of a roof near Central Park...

Or not, as it would be completely improper to do. Airsoft in NYC is subversive and 'frowned-upon' enough, as is...

Still trying to scrounge up an accurate looking case for it.

Comment or inquiry about the build here if you please:

  5. Recently installed the Element NPAS. Bought it from KHMountain, no issues.

It took a little bit of guesswork to get the NPAS installed, but it wasn't too hard to figure out.

The only problem I've encountered so far is that the adjustable valve part (not exactly sure what it's called) was seated incorrectly after short use, but this was easy to fix. Just needed to nudge it back into place with a screwdriver or pliers.

Also, has anyone tried the 21 rnd. VN style ProWin mags?

I also just wanted to put it out there that I'm looking to buy an AGM stock pipe/buffer tube. Let me know if you have one to spare or if anyone knows where I can get one.

  6. I just can't buy enough Japanese-made Strats at the moment. I love them.

I'm looking for one with a Trans Blue FotoFlame finish, but they're quite rare.

    Ben.

I've been lookng for a Japanese 68RI, but I've always put it off or never had the cash on hand.

I've also been contemplating just buying a 68 neck and putting it on my Oly White MIM strat. No use in having two Oly White strats, I guess.

Ive also been looking for a Mesa Dual Recto. Anyone have an opinion on them?

I think I can get one for $800 US, but its a stretch.

  7. i'd go for bareknuckle over anything else.

also, that Les Paul custom somebody posted, is the boobies. love bigsby's, love flame maple, just not a big fan of les paul's. but thats a good one.

give me a hollowbody birdseye maple Telecaster with bigsby any day of the week.......

That'd be me and thank ya.

The LP is actually my bros. I'm more of a Strat or Super Strat man myself.

Also, a thinline Tele with a Bigsby would be nice for me, but I have other axes to buy/make on my list first.

  8. Handmade Filipino Balisong:

    dsc02802j.th.jpg

Recieved it about 7 or maybe 8 years ago, I believe, before air travel restrictions got tight.

It's full metal except for the overlays (some sort of plastic). Brass handles with Copper pin inlays.

Flipping it is quite easy due to the full metal construction.

It can also put a mild hole or a decent dent in a quarter, but I haven't tried this at full speed due to the fact that there is no handguard.

  9. Hehehehe mine already has the scalloping and extra huge frets... No crappy Floyd Rose on it though :bleh:

Anyone familiar with a certain eBay shop, 'Stratosphere'?

I was thinking of just getting a Custom Shop body, a decent neck, and a loaded scratchplate, and mashing them together.

    Ben.

Yeah, I think their seller name is 'reliablefender', right?

I've heard they're pretty reliable. All their parts are genuine Fender, from what people have said.

  10. Nice axes!

I'm debating over whether or not to build my dream Fender Custom Shop guitar, at the cost of nearly £3000.00...

    Ben.

    Thanks.

I've also been contemplating building my own.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a light weight (alder, basswood) SG type guitar with 24 frets. The cutaway(s) would be cut and sanded so I can reach the 24 frets easily (like how it is with my Talon).

Also, I was thinking of putting a nice virbrato/trem. on it (eg. Kahler).

X2N, Single coil sized HB, and a Deactivator X in an HSH setup.

I think it would cost below $1000, $300 if I can source certain parts cheaply.

If I had the cash, though, I'd make a Jimi strat or a 'shredding' strat (Dual locking Floyd, scalloping, Extra big frets - the works).

    :thumbs-up:

Hearfield by Fender Talon II, The Forgotten Fender

-24 frets, Flat Wizard II type neck, Dimarzio SD and Super3, Floyd Rose Orig.

    My bro's Les Paul Custom

-'Tiger' Flame top, EMG setup with 'single coil' splitting switching-knob, Bigsby Vibrato., Gotoh Locking Tuners, Wilkinson Locking Roller Bridge

  12. The machine at work is set up for thread turning, so all i did was use an internal threading bar with a 1.75mm pitch full-form insert, the thread actually measures a 1.5mm pitch, but its very stumpy and thick, so using a bigger insert and not going quite as deep allowed me to match the thread on the receiever perfectly.

    Ah, lucky...

I was thinking about threading my own barrel nut, but I couldn't find a cheap tap that was the right size. I ended up not needing to anyway.

Also, the handguard is one piece then (delta-ring/barrel-nut 'built in')?

  13. Just to add to the AGM fanboyism..

    http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/B...us/IMG_5968.jpg

    I love these guns!!

I will love ANYTHING i can get my hands into and make bits for, and these guns are so damned simple i can do whatever i want. The handguard, outer barrel and the stock tube going into the AEG 416 stock took me about 4 hours TOTAL to make

    Nice work.

    How'd you secure the handguard?

Custom barrel nut? M31.8X1.5 tap? What size threads did you use for the inner threading of the handguard?

Or did you use grub screw?

  14. Just a question out of curiousity, but:

Does anyone think a V-hop up would work with the PGC aeg compatible hop assembly (or its copy)?

I noticed that the provided hop rubber has two flaps on its side to hold it in place in the assembly, so that might be a problem and require modification to the V-hop.

  15. Fully cocked the bolt carrier really only goes 6 to 8mm further than rear of the bolt catch (on mine I make it 7.5mm) so it wouldnt take a great deal of short stroking for it to fail to go back far enough - e.g. if mine blew back just 8mm less than full stroke it would never let the catch trip

That might not neccessarily show up in chrono results either , but if there was a discrepancy that could explain it.

    Yeah.

I think I'll have to upgrade the bolt catch eventually if it really bothers me.

Still have to test a fully loaded mag and see if if the bolt catches with one or no BBs.

In the mean time, I'll have to get around to sanding the bolt catch area smooth and relube it with appropriate grease perhaps.

Also, what gen. GHK mags do you have snorkelman? Or if you're not too sure, what color valve locker and gas reservoir end caps do you have (if thats definitive of batch generations anyway)?

  16. ...

Mag wise I've got two GHK mags here at the moment neither have leaked 'out the box' I picked up a temporary leak from the release valve on the one I stripped to measure up the internals of but that was just a case of removing and reseating it.

    Only issues with mine are

1 - the bolt stop actuating lever kicks in while theres one BB left in the mag

2 - the valve lock is showing a little wear where the bolt runs over it - the one part of it that could do with being remade in hardened steel

    ...

I just received and tested a GHK mag myself from Massive Defense.

As far as what 'gen.' it is, mine has black gas reservoir ends and a silver 'valve locker'.

No leaking whatsoever. No gas venting during operation either.

One thing I noticed was that the mags wouldn't insert completely.

The solution was to bend the two metal shell tabs at the top rear of the mag 15-30 or so degrees with pliers.

(If you take a look at original AGM mags, you'll have an idea of how much bending is needed.)

Also, forcefully inserting your mags repeatedly can do the job, but will damage your upper receiver. I believe I read similar tips on GGI.

I also noticed that the bolt catch didn't always activate with an empty mag during dry fire operation. Perhaps with just 1 BB left it might, but I haven't tried yet.

I also still haven't sanded around the bolt catch area on my stock bolt catch, though.

Manually pulling the bolt with an empty mag works 100%.
