There
was a time 2 years ago when getting hold of a spare M4/M16A2 style
pistol grip was impossible. Spares from TM (Tokyo Marui) were
incredibly rare, and no aftermarket accessory companies made one.
This caused me 2 big problems; firstly I needed one for a M16
machine pistol project I was working on and secondly I needed
a replacement for my M4/M203 combo after the TM pistol grip cracked.

Guarder
came to the rescue with their Reinforced M16 Pistol grip – the
product that arguably launched and cemented Guarders status as
a premier supplier of aftermarket accessories.

Billed as
an upgrade part, Guarder
stated that their Pistol grip would be a significant improvement
over the TM version, by making use of a new stronger material
(nylon/polycarbonate composite – FRP), would use metal threaded
eyelets for the motor plate screws to fix to and include more
space in the motor well.

Costing a mere £11
in Hong Kong I grabbed 2 as soon as they came out.

Overview
The grips came packaged in a clear plastic bag with a Guarder
label stapled across the top, with 2 Phillips head 2mm screws
enclosed – for the motor base plate.

Breaking
it out of the wrapping you immediately notice the quality
of the finish – its excellent, no excessive mould lines
or excess material. Compared to the TM Pistol grip the Guarder
one is different in colour, it’s a dark grey as opposed
to a jet black on the TM grip, and had a more matted texture.

Turning
it on its end you notice the 2 threaded inserts that are
for the motor plate screws.

Aside
from colour and the metal inserts it looks identical to
the TM version, with all the holes being in roughly the
same place.

Fitting
Very straight forward, simply undo the screws on the motor
base plate, remove the base plate and the motor spacer. Then unplug
the motor and remove it. After this unscrew the 2 Phillips head
screws at the bottom of the motor well and pull the pistol grip
off. Then simply reverse the process with the Guarder pistol grip,
except replacing motor base plate screws with those included with
the pistol grip.

Simple!

Conclusion
Another superb aftermarket accessory by Guarder. Despite being
2 years old and going through all kinds of abuse both the Guarder
grips are 100% intact. The high impact material they have used
in the construction of their grips is fantastic, and the threaded
metal eyes are still intact (the threaded metal eyes were put
in to ensure the screws holding the motor plate in would never
come loose, for example due to the plastic cracking). Having upgraded
both AEGs you notice the increase in volume in the motor well,
another welcome feature as when re-connecting the motors it was
always difficult to get the motor to fit in properly with the
wires.

Guarder grips
are now standard on all 3 of my current M4’s, and I would use
them in every other M4/M16 variant I would order as I suspect
the grip would probably outlast the rest of the AEG.
