  1. I didn't have a chance to read the link, but I wouldn't think that just heating it up would make for a good test. Chemical composition of the soil, heat, cold, moisture, friction, all play a part in the biodegrading of things. I was thinking of burying 3 different brands of bbs in isolated parts of my yard. I'd put about 10 of each bb in each section about 2 inches down. Then I'd leave them there for a few months and check on them to see their status. It's not too difficult, but I don't know when I"ll have time to do something like that.

  2. Okay, so AirSplat threw some bbs my way to check out till some new stuff comes down the pipe. I must say, if you're running a stock setup, these bbs are just fine. Now, price wise, if you have a local airsoft dealer then they might not be the best value (after shipping). If you're ordering something from AirSplat, or you don't have a local retailer, then these are a good deal.

  3. Okay, so I picked these up a month or so ago and just now got around to a review. Here's an excerpt (full review at the link below).

In the end, these boots performed well. I’ve owned a few boots in my life and say for the price they work well. They breath decently and are flexible enough — once broken in. The laces are strong and the stitching seems to be of good quality. The tread pattern on the sole of the shoe is a bit unorthodox but seemed to perform well. Other than a lack of waterproofing (even gusseting the tongue would help), I really don’t have a complaint about these boots and would recommend them to anyone on a budget who is looking for a good quality boot for mucking about in and getting dirty.

  4. Okay, so I got a hold of AirSplat's throat mics. I mean they're only $30 so you really can't fault me to trying right? Well I must say I'm really supprised. No I wouldn't bundle them in with the likes of a Devgru or IASUS throat mic setup, but for the money they work really well. Here's a bit from my review:

For the money these are excellent. The construction quality is what one would expect at this price range, although I would like to see thicker insulation on the wiring. The sound quality is acceptable and efficient for voice communications, and the microphones are well adept at picking up every word you say. Comfort is excellent with these weighing mere ounces. With most other systems like this you'd spend $100 or more, but for the weekend airsoft player on a budget, these should fit the bill just fine.

  5. That's a horrendously stupid comparison. The M60 fired an incredibly powerful cardridge, and therefore didn't need to be able to shoot really fast. In airsoft, everything fires the same size bb with a few minor variations in weight. Being able to fire at high RoFs makes an airsoft support weapon effective. Regardless of all this, the 400 or so RPM that video showed is about half of what the real M249 is. Totally unacceptable for airsoft.

Yet easily fixable with a higher voltage battery or a lower fps spring.

  6. Very interested in the cylinder head and anti reversal latch.

One thing that springs to mind though - i thought ALL gearboxes needed individula shimming and that very few gearboxes were alik in shimming. So how does this product work exactly?

What would be interesting is if modify released the gear frame seperate, so that the user's own gears could be taken out as one piece. Ie CA gears in a modify frame. That would make things much easier for existing GBs.

Shimming is used to maintain the proper spacing between the gears. This is already done since it comes as a set. Also, each gear is separated from the gearbox shell by the frame around the gears.

  7. Personally I think the Systema stuff is over rated (the shims are fine though). A decent polycarb piston head and a good battery should be fine. Find out if you can throw a large 9.6 or 10.8 (not sure what it comes with), in there. If you can, I'd do that rather than investing in a motor. If the motor dies down the road, then replace it.

whats your goal with it? Trying to make it reliable, or going for ROF, (I'm guessing not fps since you're in the UK).

  8. For me the A&K could be a fun project gun. If it's shooting 400+fps out of the box, then a good battery to up the ROF and it's good to go. As long as it shoots decent, then it's worth it to me. If something breaks I'd replace it. It'd take a lot of things breaking before I equal the cost of the CA. Now keep in mind I'd be willing to deal with the occasional breakage as this would be a project gun for me.

  9. Looked like a v6 to me (pics of the JLS FN2000 gearbox)

These pics haven't been edited, so I hope they look okay (camera is dying on me)

    Someone please confirm

  10. I just got hold of a JLS FN2000 to review. The gun is rated at 350 fps (too hot for the UK), but let's just say after chrono'ing it, it's shooting hotter than that. The gun is pretty solid for a clone, and the internals are good, but need a bit of a tweak here and there if your looking for a long term AEG.

  11. Eh, when I cut and paste from my site the formating gets messed up and words are smashed together.

Here it is in a nutshell.

    1950 cu in storage space

Room for a 100oz hydration bladder

    3 main pockets

    Why it's good:

The compression straps do an excellent job at holding the pack tight against your body, helping you maintain mobility and agilty. The sternum and waist strap are well placed and designed so that they do an excellent job at distrbuting the weight evenly.

After running around for hours in thick woods and vegitation, even the sharpest of briers didn't manage to pull a thread or rip the pack.

It's the little things that help make this pack good. Strong quality stitching, holder for hydration bite valve, port at the top of the pack to direct the hydration tube.

Overall it's great, only a few cons, but you can read about those on my website (breakfast is burning....) :D

  12. For those of you who want to keep a slim loadout for playing airsoft, this might be a good alternative. For those of you who like to do the PMC / Contractor look, this might work well for you too.

The Fatboy Versipack (by Maxpedition), is great in that it has plenty of storage space for larger rifle mags (such as the M4 or even G36) in the main pocket, and room to carry a pistol and extra mag for it as well.

Overall it's an excellent piece of kit, and I had to look hard to find any faults with it. Take a look at my full review here:
