If you want to run VN mags in regular M4 pouches, use Magpuls or Magpul ranger plates. Makes em pretty easy to yank out, they sit just above the lip:

 

 

Obviously not appropriate for a Vietnam-based or specific past era loadout, but if you don't care about that, it works. It's what I do.

 

I might add that if you have an AR built as a Recce or counter-sniper rifle, or even DMR, you might like VN mags better if you rarely go full auto, need something that's lower profile, go prone alot, etc.

Aren't most railed gas blocks a good deal lower than the RAS system? I think it would screw up the line of sight on the irons.

Heh, the mount is cool enough on its own Actually the AP is coming with a small order that includes a sling mount, inner barrel, steel outer 10.5" barrel, etc. It should all be here soon and then I can finally call it done.

Render I am loving that Carbine! Does the front iron site affect your scope at all?

 

I would leave it without an M203 but thats me. I prefer the more quick carbine look of it all.

Thanks. The mount is a high mount, so it elevates the dot a bit above the sights (helps if you're using a cheek riser and for other reasons) so no, the irons don't get in the way.

 

I'm 95% certain I won't get an M203 after selling mine, I agree with you. But if I did, it'd be barrel-mounted.

Render, beautiful M4....but it cries for a barrel mounted M203 instead of the RIS mounted version. I'm loving the gun either way though.

Heh, yeah...the only reason I have a 203 at all is because it came with the gun. I'm selling it right away. If I ever buy another, it'll be barrel mounted.

Does anyone know if most charging handles come with the long springs? I just took down my rifle and the spring completely stretched and warped to the point of uselessness, which I've never seen happen with a G&P. So I need to source one of those springs.
