  1. Cheers for the vote of confidence all - it is much appreciated.

I personally can only apologize for my own recent absenses from the forums but I am hoping to get stuck in more in the very near future.

And to that end - 101matt1 - your signature is too big (as is yours cllwayzata2011 and Crispin1025). Shorten them at the vertical asap or suffer a severe slapping with either a wet trout or a "care-bear" soaked in diesel :D

    (sorry, couldn't resist) :P

  2. Cheers Papillon,

Your sentiments, thoughts and intentions are very much appreciated. We (as in myself and the rest of the admin/moderating team) do what we can, and it is great to know that our efforts on behalf of the Airsoft community as a whole are appreciated. :)

I can only hope that you (and others) continue to enjoy this site and take pride in being part of our community of Airsofters, no matter where you reside. ;)

Take care and keep on 'softin' :P

  3. Hmmmm,

Okay, the PSG-1 may well be a G-3 variant, but does that mean it's NOT worthy of it's own thread here?

Forgive me if I've missed a previous PSG-1 pictures thread but if a member here wants to create a thread for PSG-1 photos, why should we stop that?

I may be biased in the fact that I hate MP5s and Love customized MP5Ks, but surely we can't persecute members for wanting photos of a replica that has similarities with other similar replicas.

Please - original poster - if the tips offered by previous posters satisfy you the let me (or another mod) know and we will divert traffic to that thread. If however, this is a thread devoted PURELY to the PSG-1 and there is no other, then let this thread be free from opression, discrimination, and all manner of "twunts" :D

Until such time as I am informed otherwise, this thread remains valid and open. Post away chaps ;)

  4. Didnt ASCUK have a bulk sales section to cover this?

I have just added a "Bulk / Misc Sales" sub-section to the new system ;)

...I think it makes buying anything really hard as the seller could in theory wait for ages until a silly amount more then the item is worth comes up.

So much for first come first served which i liked about the forums and why I dont like using eBay. The only way some people can really buy airsoft stuff is second hand by 'bagging a bargain', so long to that. If this system takes over I fear it will simply be the people with the most buying power taking it over. And who said money isnt everything. This system is great for the seller but horror for the potential buyers! *Sigh*  :(

Well, this (as far as I see it) is an indictment of "Darwin's Principal". If sellers want too much then they're going to end up disappointed. If they are reasonable in their requests then they will get a quick sale. Basically if the seller wants top-dollar then they can use the system to their advantage and either get stone-walled or get a buyer with more money than sense. If a seller actually wants to sell their gear in a reasonable time-frame then they can configure their sale accordingly.

I know one persons never gonna sell his gun on it anytime soon, look when his auction ends.

    http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/classifieds...roduct=16&cat=2

Yes, quite. As mentioned previously the system is under development and it looks like a sensible timeframe for sales (e.g. Under a month or two) should be enforced and configured in to the system ;)

Is there really any need for sections such as "jewelery and watches" etc it's not exactly often someone sells jewelery lol and the car section aswell, is there really any point? if you want to sell your car put an advert in auto-trader! i think a few of those sections could be taken away.

Even some of the airsoft ones, ie, gas, when have you ever seen someone selling cans of gas on here?...

I have spent a couple of hours rationalising the system and I agree. As such, the sections you mention have now been removed and other sections have been inserted in their place. ;)

Word. It;s a great system, but it doesn't do it for me. Kinda prefer the simplicity of the normal classifieds sections. Just a few more categories there would be nice.

So what categories would you want? I have re-ordered the system in the last few hours. If there ie anything there you want to see please post below and I will take your suggestions in to consideration ;)

    Hope that helps all :yu:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW - The US/UK/EU/WorldWide divisions are being worked on at the moment - more to follow all ;)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. I'd like for us to be able to sell new products there, ie for small profit.... Any chance?

There's nothing to stop a member making a small profit on an item they want to sell on, but I think you are referring to something akin to running a business through the system using it as your shop-front (as many "Powersellers" do on eBay).

That would be a call for Arnie to make as it would involve a fundamental policy-shift. ;)

  6. I personally like it.

There's a lot more scope for sellers, better search facilities for buyers, and a more organized approach.

I still like the old system too but as we now have more members than any other internet Airsoft site, we do need to cater for increased demand.

Now this new system is VERY different to the old system and I can see a lot of regs objecting to it as it is "not what they are used to", but I reckon it's worth giving it a chance before dismissing it.

I do think that some kind of US/UK distinction needs to be made but this could be done with a "location" tag which is then searchable by buyers rather than a different subsection. I also think that it needs a link to the rep system, but these are only minor upgrades, not reasons why it's unsuitable.

Please list suggestions for improvements here and Arn will be able to look in to their possible inclusion in the system. After all, it's only a few hours old and as has been said - is still under development ;)

  7. Thanks very much for your suggestion Rob. We are currently considering something along these lines. It won't be the same as the ASCUK system (although I wouldn't know as I never even saw that :P ), but the idea has been saluted already by me at least. We'll decide what to do after some deep and nerdy conflabulations between myself and the rest of the Staff ;)

    Cheers :)

  8. Will the limit here be raised to 350fps and higher sniper limits as per the other site or will we just see an influx of modded gun with no spring fitted for sale?

The rules will remain the same no matter which system is implemented. These are 1 Joule for all sales except for sales where both the buyer and seller lives in the USA.

As mentioned we can't put this site in a legal grey area by promoting or condoning legally questionable activities. I'm sure you understand ;)

Would now be a wise time to also consider a group buying forum?

Excuse my denseness, but what's a "group buying forum"?

    -----------------

On the question of dividing the existing sub-forums until a more permenant system can be implemented, I will work on this over the next couple of days. I will be keeping it simple though as creating too many sub-forums is only going to result in buyers not being able to find what they want and some sellers not knowing where their sale should be posted. We'll then see if more subforums need to be created over the coming weeks.

I'll post up more info as things start happening ;)

  9. I spoke with Arnie again today and he is planning to integrate the new system mentioned earlier. This would be a fully interactive "Sales" system that works in a similar way to the Review Database. It will allow users to upload several images, be fully searchable in several ways, have discussion space and several custom fields and categories for different types of sales (somewhat similar to the eBay system, but without the 'auction' layout.

It may take a while to fully setup and integrate this system, and more news will be posted up about it as more is known.

In the mean time I will look at re-organizing the existing Sales sub-forums and how best to do it.

    Cheers all ;)

  10. I am also aware of this.

I have spoken with several ASCUK regs and have had the same feedback.

Again, I am all in favor of a little "restructuring" of our Sales forums as a result, but I don't think it should be as fragmented as the system used on the ASCUK boards previously.

My personal suggestions would be as follows...

For the UK and USA Sales forums...

Split the "For Sale" sub-forum in to the following categories...

    • AEGs
    • GBBs
    • Other Replicas
    • Kit & Clothing
    • Other

(Of course this doesn't really help the chap that wants to sell his webbing, his old AEG and 3 batteries. I mean where does he post that sales thread)???

All other sub-forums (inc the entire "Worldwide" forum)...

    To be left "As is".

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, I have also spoken in depth with Arnie about the feature he suggested above. This is a non-forum feature that has more in common with the "Review Database" than the Invision Board, and would deal exclusively with on-line sales. Such a system would be searchable on type of item, price, quality, interest, etc...

Unfortunately, this would involve a LOT of extra work for Arn to implement. If people are going to REALLY get THAT much extra benefit from it then I am sure he will try to get it implemented some time soon, but if it's something that is going to be more hassle than necessary then I would propose that I just restructure the UK & US For Sale forums as I suggested above.

    Thoughts? ;)

  11. Hi all. Thanks for your PMs but I have been away from the forums (unavoidably) for the last couple of months. However I am now BACK and going through the 200 or so PMs I have received at the moment.

I am currently up to July 9th (meaning all PMs sent to me before that date have now been either actioned or replied to). Anything received after that date will be replied to as soon as I can get to it (gotta reply to PMs in chronological order to be fair).

I expect to be fully up to date on PMs by this weekend. Any requests sent to me already should be actioned by then.

Apologies for the delay but I'm working away as fast as I can ;)

    Best wishes to all.

    R22 B)

  12. UPDATE:

Okay, I am now up to June 22nd as far as PMs are concerned.

If you sent me a PM after that date then I haven't forgotten you - I am working up to it :D

Apologies for the delay but I am going through things as fast as my little fingers can carry me

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ADDITIONAL:

Yes, I HAVE been away from the forums for quite some time, but I am now working as hard as I can to be more of a "daily" feature here from now on.

More news to follow. Watch this space ;)

EDIT (as of 18/07/2006) - I am now up to 9th July on my PMs. I hope to be "up to speed" by the end of the weekend ;)

  13. Hey hey again all :)

Okay, firstly I'd like to say that I haven't even had chance to log in for the last 6 weeks and as such there may be a slight delay in getting replies to the 216 PMs I have received in that time. Sorry to those involved but I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. ;)

Secondly, I think my blatent hint in the previous post above was misunderstood by some. My oh-so-unsubtle-hints were directed at you giving props to my moderating posse, not me. ;) So go wild, go nuts, have a ball and give the Global Mods a token of your appreciation by positive-repping them rather than me. :D

Anyway, I must offer my apologies for being absent from the site for so long but one has to keep a roof over one's head doesn't one ;)

Normal service will be resumed as soon as I can get through the 400+ PMs, e-mails and messages that have been left for me during my absense.

Peace out, chill, and best wishes to you all :)

    R22. ;)

  14. Hi all,

Firstly, I apologize for my unavoidable absense from the site recently - it has been due to work commitments. I missed you all though and now have a little more time on my hands for the forseeable future.

I just wanted to let everyone who has sent me PMs requiring Admin actions (team forums, account problems, etc...) that I do still have them and am working my way through them as quickly as possible. I have managed to spend about 12 solid hours over the last couple of days working my way through them (as many people who received replies to long forgotten PMs recently found out) and I am currently down to the last 60-ish.

Anyway, I'd like to assure people that I will be back "on form" soon, and I would like to offer my most sincere thanks to the moderators who have kept the site going so well while I have been unable to play any sort of part. Top job guys - you all deserve more + rep points (hint hint) ;) hehehe

    Cheers :)

  15. Just a note to clarify things here.

At the moment, the only connection that the IRC channel and this forum has is a link from this site pointing people to the chat room. The IRC channel is NOT managed by the staff of the forum, and is NOT managed to the same rules. As a result, if you were booted from IRC by Ubar, your best bet is to PM the user himself (assuming "Ubar" on IRC is the same "Ubar" that has an account on these forums of course), asking for an explaination.

Apologies that I cannot help further.

    R22. ;)

  16. Hi all,

I have to offer my heart-felt apologies for not posting news recently but I have been so busy with work commitments I have found even logging on to this site every few weeks a difficulty.

Coupled to this is the fact I am unable to attach images to any news posts I make (due to access restrictions that Arnie himself has to lift for my account).

Basically, tonight is the first time I have had chance to even log in to Arnie's since April but I am hoping this will change in the coming future. As and when I get some free time, I will pour it in to this site and the users who use it.

I am sorry that one particular user has a problem with my lack of effort here (as exhibited by the 3,170+ airsoft posts, the second highest number of reviews submited to this site's Review Database, the countless admin tasks I perform despite my own work commitments, and my constant negotiation with the Airsoft industry, even though I work a 20 hour day just to keep a roof over my head).

To him I apologize - both for my lack of effort and for the permanent ban I gave him 20 minutes ago.

Anyway, over the last month or so an internet connection has been a rare luxury to me but I am hoping to resolve this in the next few weeks, when I should be back as your kick-a** airsoftin'-admin-type-bloke.

Again, apologies for my absense, but we all have to earn a living. Let's see what 'June' brings ;)

    Cheers all :)

  17. Alright - H_S had a temper problem and could be a real c**k at times - but he did know his stuff.

Well, quite. I for one was sad to see Sid go, but it was an act of neccessity. Basically what happened is that the person in command of Admin features of the time accidentally hit the "Delete User" link in the Admin console instead of the rather complicated procedure needed to alter a user's state to "Banned" when Sid stepped over the line for the last time. It was a clerical error but the intent was true. The only person with access to restore the avatar and profile info for this account (Arnie) hasn't had chance to do it yet.

Hissing_Sid had previously insulted countless users on a personal level, ensured that many users (at least 8 that I know of personally), left the forums for ever due to his hostile nature, prompted COUNTLESS users (seriously - I have lost count it is so many) to PM me personally to say that his posts made them ashamed to be Scottish and apologize on his behalf (as his profile indicated he was from the Scottish Borders), he had attacked the owners and operators of this site (including probing for technical information about the server and security precautions we take here (mysteriously follwed in the next few weeks by outages (and down-time due to hackers) and hacking attempts)), made personal insults and accusations against myself and several other moderators here (including many of our personal and business interests), and basically made a fool of himself in every possible way.

As a result he was banned (prompted by his recommendations that other users f*** off when they questioned his posts).

It is also worth noting that Arnie's Airsoft has been the most tollerant site with regard to this user (i.e. - he had previously been banned from EVERY other UK Airsoft forum before being banned from our site).

There is no doubt that the majority of his posts were helpful (and it was those posts that I will personally miss (and it was the reason why he had been granted such leniency here regarding his posting style)), but it was the unfeasably and unacceptably hostile nature of his remaining posts that lead to his ban (which he had been continuously warned about over the preceeding 12 months - warnings that he had ignored on every occasion).

Derspite this though, his rather socially-inept personallity decided to try to "slip under the radar" and cunningly re-register with a new account (against forum rules) to re-supply us all with his rather unique mix of helpful posts and psychotically-pseudo-superior bile (despite countless previous warnings not to).

As a result, his duplicate account was banned as well.

Now I (and several others including 'Arnie') have explained the site's position regarding this user far too many times, so I declare this thread closed.

Read, assimilate, understand. If you have a problem with him being banned from here, tough luck. He's banned - he's NEVER coming back - live with it.

    R22 out.

  18. hi arnie I asked if I could have my own little forum before you went off line to do your repairs please could you do one for me the name is Unreal Airsoft

    mine is kez thanks m8.

Your forum has now been created ;)

I've sent an E-mail about a site forum, do i just wait now or is someone waiting for me to do something ??

    Confused plank.

Best bet is to PM me details required for forums you want creating as Arnie isn't about to do it at the moment ;)

  19. Hi all,

Over the last few weeks, a great many tests have been done and we are getting closer to finding a solution. A couple of things are going to happen in the coming week...

    1. The forums will go "Members Only" for a week.

This will isolate certain outside influences on server availability and hopefully cut down some leeching of resources. If after the 1 week trial period the problems are still apparent, the service will be switched back to open access. If this has cured the server problems though, the forums will remain members only until such time as the hardware can cope with unrestricted traffic.

    2. The server's memory will be upgraded.

Well, it will be doubled actually - giving us a far more stable operating platform. In order for this to happen though the server will need to be switched off for a 4 hour period during the course of this week. Apologies for any inconvenience if this outage affects you.

    Many thanks, ;)

    R22.

  20. Hi all,

A few minutes ago this site was brought back on-line after a few days of exhausting work to fix the recent connection problems we have been having.

Here is a message from the operator of the server...

After a lot of analysis, and some help from people from these forums in testing various things out, and a lot of time on the phone to the US, we have managed to establish some of the causes of the recent problems Arnies Airsoft has been having. With that in mind, I am very pleased to be able to tell you all that Arnie's is back online, hopefully working better than ever. Many of the tweaks that have been applied might not work, and as a result the site will continue to be monitored and tweaked throughout the course of the next 24 hours. It will be during this time that we will be able to see what else needs doing, be it hardware upgrade or software tweaking. If the site goes down again, please do not worry, it will be back as soon as further tweaks can be applied. Arnies Airsoft will remain with us for as long as Arnie wants it to continue, and if any of you notice the "site disabled" message, please do not panic, Arnie's is not doomed or gone forever, but instead will come back online as soon as the reason for the shutdown has been solved.

With a bit of luck, the site will be made stable over the next 24 hours. I will be making some recommendations to Arnie when he is able to get back to the site, and to R22 in the meantime as a result of the investigations which have taken place over the last three days.

If for any reason this site is down for a prolonged period of time, as a temporary measure I will keep you informed as to reasons in Arn's Corner on the Ivery Music forums which you can find at http://www.iverymusic.com.

Meanwhile, thank you all for your patience, and please feel free to continue to enjoy the best Airsoft resource in the world.

    All the best,

    Tim Ivery

    Over to you R22!

So we're back up and running and it looks like things should be better now. If these problems do persist we have a few more tricks up our sleves, but to avoid any more outages we are hoping that the work undertaken during the week is effective.

Thank you all for bearing with us. ;)

    R22.

  21. Im must be the only weirdo here using AOL explorer, but whatever. I keep getting the site disabled, and when i tryed the /forum thing, it says the they cant find the URL. But, hence im posting here, it cleared itself up and im back on now

HEy R22, not to be nosy or anything, but whatever was the upgrade?

    ONi

What you describe is indicative of the "Site Disabled" status which was only in effect for about 5 minutes tonight.

The "upgrade" wasn't an upgrade so much as a tinkering with current server settings, and the re-initialization of essential services ;)

  22. Hi,

Yes, the site had to be temporarily disabled about an hour ago (off-line time lasted about 5 minutes) to restart some failed services on the server. Once done, the site was brought back on-line again and here we are :D

I am going to be scarce on the site for the next few weeks due to prior commitments, but I have been told by the server operator that this may happen again over the next few days as further tests and tweaks are carried out to determine the source of the current lag on the server. Any down-time will be kept to an absolute minimum so your patience is much appreciated.

Hopefully by the time I'm back up to speed, the server will be too :D
