Damn. Just as I had decided I was happy with my recoil gun and the upgrade cravings had settled down... and now you've show me that link.
Must resist - but a new reciever would make me the best airsofter that has ever lived.

It *might* sort itself out if you allow the gun to completely dry out at room temperature for a couple of days (without the battery connected).
But if I were you I'd contact BTC and ask for their advice. The customer service they offer is excellent and I'm sure they'll do everything they can to help. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they saw your initial post and messaged you straight away.

There are other manufacturers who make alternatives. Search for 'barrel base' on Fire Support and a few options come up.

I got a tan M&P9 a couple of days ago and I'm really impressed with the gun. The finish on the slide, the V-Tac sights, the rubberised grips, the handling, the feel - it's perfect.
I've only plinked with it so far but it feels like a typical Marui pistol so I'm confident it'll perform well and prove to be reliable.
I hadn't previously read that the tan pistol comes with an extra tan mag bumper, so that was a cool surprise.
Also, I followed the recommendation of Bovinedog and bought a Warrior Universal Holster. Very impressed.
The body of the holster is fabric but it's very stiff once it's all adjusted properly. The locking mechanism latches on to the front of the trigger guard. It holds tight, no wobble or slack (the package includes spare spacers so you can get a perfect fit). Pressing down on the release with your thumb allows the pistol to be removed with a clean, snag free draw.
The holster does leave a lot of the pistol exposed so it's not great for crawling through mud, otherwise I'm really happy with it.

I'm not sure that a gearbox jam would cause the trigger to be stiff - wouldn't that need something to be obstructing the trigger pull in some way?
Something do to with the selector plate being out of position?

It's not essential at all, but you will get a small fps boost - 5-10fps.

A new upper board arrived from BTC yesterday and once fitted my problem was resolved. Thank you again to Frank for his help.
Don't repeat my dumb mistake, discharge yourself of static before and during installation of the Spectre. BTC have shown the best customer service you could imagine and I'm very grateful, but it has still meant stripping down the gun again which is always a chore.
Now it is working my first impressions of the Spectre are very positive. The trigger is snappy and crisp - definitely comparable to my PTW.

Wow - excellent customer service from Frank at BTC.
He thinks the upper board has been damaged by static during installation, which is entirely possible as I have sausage fingers and the brain of a caveman.
Frank has gone above and beyond to get the problem fixed as quickly as possible, no fuss or excuses. If only every company in airsoft were that good.
I'll update as soon as I can but in the meantime a big public thanks to BTC, and remember to be careful with those circuit boards.
Maybe I should Google 'how to discharge static electricity' before the next installation…

I have recently installed a Next-Gen Spectre into my SOPMOD and I'm having a problem that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with…
As soon as I connect the battery, irrespective of whether the trigger is pressed or not, the gun fires in full-auto until I pull the plugs apart again. The fire-selector can be set to any position, nothing makes a difference. It's as if the battery is wired straight to the motor.
I've had the gear-box apart again and can't see any obvious problems. All the relevant parts (trigger, sector gear/cut-off cam, selector plate, empty mag thingy) all seem to be working properly with the correct travel that presses the micro switches at the right point. The sector gear isn't catching on the circuit board, and the board itself doesn't show any signs of damage.
The fact that gun fires continuously in full auto whatever the controls are set to makes me think it might be an electrical problem rather than the gearbox installation.
I have swapped the Spectre battery connector to a mini-deans. The positive and signal wires are soldered directly to the same tab on the mini-deans, which is how it appears to have been done originally. Obviously, the negative wire is soldered to the other tab. I've checked all the wiring and it's all intact and no shorting.
The pin connectors between the upper and lower boards of the Spectre did strike me as a weak point but they don't appear to be damaged and the connections look sound.
The gun is upgraded internally with the following (all functioning perfectly prior to the Spectre installation)…
Magic Box gears (shimmed so they spin freely for a few seconds, but without any lateral up and down movement within the shell).
Prommy cylinder, cylinder head, piston and piston head.
Prommy bushings.
Marui trigger, tappet plate, selector plate, gearbox shell and receiver.
Magpul MIAD grip with a modified metal base plate.
Using a 7.4v 850mAh Turnigy lipo battery.
I can't think of where to start my trouble-shooting. The installation appears to be solid and the build worked fine prior to the Spectre, but obviously it's a big upgrade.
I shall contact BTC directly for their advice but in the meantime I wondered if anyone on Arnies might be able to shed some light…

I'm in the same position, completely spoilt for choice with all the great Marui pistols on offer. Additionally I've got the XDM on my list.
In the end I think I'll end up choosing based upon which pistol I can get a Safariland holster for.

AOD: Thanks for the detailed write up, especially your solution to getting the wiring in. I like what you've done, although I'm assuming you insulated the exposed wire after taking the photo.

I have one as well - great mosfet for the size and price. Doesn't have all the features of the larger 'fets but it is about the same size as a deans plug.
I got mine from FireSupport in the UK.

I was planning to write up a 'how to' but I don't think I'll get time until my kids have grown up and left home.
Since taking the photo I've managed to make enough space for a PEQ-15 type lipo inside, although you have to removed the rubber butt plate to slide it in. The largest mah battery I've gotten through the side door is this 7.4v 850mah lipo…

If it's anything like the Magpul UBR stock then the castle nut isn't needed.
As you tighten the stock to the buffer tube a 'lug' slots into the small circular cutout in the receiver, just below where the buffer tube meets the receiver. Normally this is covered by the receiver end plate. Once fully tightened the lug prevents the buffer tube and stock from rotating and keeps it locked in solid.

Very impressed with mine, smooth and a quiet. I haven't used enough of the alternative motors to say it's better than X or Y but I'm happy with it.

FPS is around 300. A little low for the M100 spring I'm using, possibly because of the piston head, as discussed a page or two ago.
I haven't looked into the causes or a fix. The only reason I discovered the burst shot was because you posted your observations and I thought, 'I wonder if mine does the same?' I hadn't spotted it before with normal use.
As the gun works okay, and the Spectre will hopefully be available imminently, I'm going to leave the gun as it is for now and fit a Prommy piston head and Spectre at the same time.

It has been a while since I've tinkered with my SOPMOD, I might have to get a set. I can't read the Japanese Laylax site the story links to but I'm assuming they come in other colours as well as the Magpul approved Dark Earth.
