  1. well, there's no middle ground on those grips!

as for the Koba stuff....  the slide kit is expensive, and it's plastic, tough as heck, but still plastic. (the recoil spring is a little too strong too.. throws off the second shot for speed shooting..)  as far as the barrel in performance.  if used in context of what Mr. Koba and all of Japan (well most) it performs great!  superb accuracy and consistency!  there are a few drawbacks though, you can NOT go beyond 320fps in power output,  after that, the rifling takes over, and all your shots go to the right.  also, there is a slight velocity loss due to the rifling.  but as far as a target barrel, it's great!

oh yeah, and I just made a purple 4.3 for someone else too. haha. :)

Cool, thanks for the info. I might pickup one of the Freedom Arts kits that includes a 6" twist barrel, thats why I was wondering. Too bad the slides are expensive, just like the First ABS slides. I can pry my wallet open for metal, but not for plastic:/

  2. Glad you like it. Give me suggestions for better detail pictures and I'll try to take some. Hopefully a shortish matching suppressor will be ready for photos soon, too. Its slow going without a lathe:G

  3. I hate those grip frames, but I've been wondering about the quality of the Koba stuff forever now. How do you like it? How heavy is it, how does it fit, etc.

I've heard everything about the twist barrel, including that it shoots worse than stock, as good as stock, and better than any tightbore, increasing range, accuracy, BB mass, and sexual potency. How do you like yours?

Real nice looking gun, though, just too blue downstairs.

I'll try to take pictures of my "Desert Warrior" 4.3 today.

The RAS is top notch, not too hard to fit to a CA body. The G&P stock is great, holds a variety of batteries, very sturdy. It's got the nicest feeling finish of any part of my gun, niver than TM or CA stocks. In bright light, it is a little gray compared to the CA body, but not enough for me to paint. If you want to store a huge batter in stock, or just want the "KV" look, I highly recomend it.

  5. Thanks for the comments guys. Those pictures are pretty crappy, I took them in TV light, then resized them and lowered their quality to save space.

I'll get some better ones soon, probably after Christmas. I'm painting the frame now, as well as the 4.3 slide.

I've started work on the grip, too. I' currently laying on lots of coats of brown to the side grip panels. It looks good, its an almost ruddy type brown, nicer than I expected. After letting that sit for at least 24 hours, I'll tape over just the side panels and do the rest in khaki.

I've completely disassembled the gun for this project, to avoid gummin gup the works, and have masked everything very thouroughly and carefully. I'm going to clean and polish the inside of the frame, too. If you've enver been in there, both my hicapas have a terrible surface finish inside the frame. Some finishing work will smooth the trigger and the cycle, hopefully enough that I actually notice.

I'm not painting any of the controls, so it will still have black accents all over it. I might paint the magazine bumper, probably not.

And, for Sledge, I was actually thinking about splotching brown to make more of a 3 color desert look to it, but we'll see when its done.

  6. I've got two Hicapas now, one 5.1, all metal and tricked out, and one stock 4.3.

I've been looking for something gun to do to the 4.3, and I like Kimber Desert Warriors, so I though I'd give painting the 4.3 a try.

I started of by painting my spare 5.1" plastic slide.

It came out nice. I plan on painting the 4.3 slide and frame in the same khaki color. What do you guys think? Look good? different color maybe?

I know the Kimber is dark earth, but I've got khaki on hand, and I like it.

My real problem is how to paint the grip. I want to paint it khaki, then do the grip panels in brown, but looks like it's going to be very tricky, and I don't have a grip to practice on. I think I might paint the entire grip brown, then mask off the grip panels, and paint the rest khaki. I had planned on trying the reverse, but masking off the area between panels is very difficult.

    Any comments, suggestion?

  7. My KV stock just cleared customs, and my RAS is waiting for me at home.

It takes a lot more than the KV type stock to build the KV we have all seen pictures of. There is a 16" or so barrel, its own forend and gasblock, mag release, and carry handle.

Even then, it wouldn't be a KV. KV is the current designation for a G36K with single optic carry handle.

  8. Bummer.

It also doesn't look like its 100% real steel accurate.

I guess I'll hold of for a CA replica.

Anyone else DIEING for a CA AG36? Accurate sized handguard, please. The star looks too wrong, and the Madbull is cool for the RIS users, but I don't care for G36 RIS combos.
