  1. I wish people would stop talking out of their asses. The DBoys AK receivers are rock solid, and they've improved their metal casting from dodgy early models to very solid current production. For the price, they're amazing. Even if they were $50-$100 more, they'd still be worth it.

The DBoys RK01S is more durable than the Ino/RMW AKSU kit in some ways, both in material and fit.

Should have been more specific; I was refering to the two underfolder cyma examples I have seen (including my own) snap on the first game they were skirmished on.

I keep forgetting d-boys also make underfolders ;)

  2. So, while we have all the AK experts here, I have a quick question:

I love the looks of the Type 56-1, but buying an AK with no stock makes me nervous. I have a TM AK-74MN, so I have some AK experience already, but what do you guys think about this? Are there any major issues with under-folders?

You get what you pay for; the chinese clone ones break very easily, as the metal is aweful, but if you get a real sword or a teel rmw/inokatsu kit, they're probably about as strong as the real thing. My akms is rock solid.

  3. I don't want to turn this into a sales pitch, but I keep being bombarded with emails about the sterling. Information is in the link in my sig. Cheers for the nice comments guys, I will be heading up to my mates workshop to finish the type 100 soon.

  4. Already have an AKMS, just wanted something shorter for indoors work. The guy I spoke did say he used an AKSU initially, until the excessive muzzle climb made him tear not only the dogs in half but also people's living rooms! He later switched to a silenced makarov :P . I hear what you're saying, probably best to stick to the akms. I may build one anyway though, for other loadouts.

    Cheers for the advice,

    Matt

  5. How common is the M92? More common than the AKMSU I would imagine. I want a gun of that sort (underfolder, carbine front) for my Soviet afgfan loadout- I was speaking to a guy who was there (VDV IIRC) and he said that when they were searching people's houses, they used to use guns they had bought from the local market - they would have to log it and do lots of paperwork if the used their issued weapons, and they needed to fire fairly often to take down the large dogs the locals were so fond of..

  6. A monster, born from necessity:

My AKMS was firing too hot, so I needed to bring thr fps fown by 20fps by the weekend. To do this, I installed the front end from my ancient AK105, which has a spetsnaz barrel.

It feels great, rock solid, only probleme being I have two full-autos, one semi and no safety. Makes me want to make an AMKSU.

Will probably re-assemble as a true ak-105 (which is broken) sell, and replace with a cyma one. How are those?

  7. Type 100/40 sub-machine gun; scratch built:

Not quite complete, needs vent holes drilled in the barrel and some internals fitted, but othwerwise very nice hor a home-made gun. Posting it now as it will be several months before it's 100%.

  8. Damn! can't believe I missed Napalm! Does it really smell like victory, or any different to normal petrol burning?

I've decided my first military vehicle will be and Mi-24, or an early Huey, just so can go tear-arsing I around 'nam looking for the suitcase.

Did buy some beo-gam, but it was too small for me. Not too bad for £3.00 though...

    Cheers,

    matt

  9. Finally finished my wood FAL:

Took over a year to get the parts and complete, was very difficultt as the stock was from an L1A1 and didn't fit right on. Battery fits in stock.

    Hope you like,

    Matt

  10. Does anyone have any idea of what pattern of chest rig this is? I know it's of a chinese design, but it has nylon straps and i was wondering when it was made:

(and yes I know he's wearing it wrong. Sorry I had to black the face out, but I don't know if he wants his image shown or not.)

Punkypink, are you going to do a VC/PAVN loadout? I don't think i've ever seen a better impression of Hanoi Hannah. I think I have a cone hat somehwere.....

...becuase it's got my old sterling barrel jacket on it. I have to say, looks awesome! very old school.

Sorry I had to run off guys, although I did wait for about an hour. Too much to do and too little time!

I did get that mauser in the end as well, and spent most of saturday hacking away at it before I realised i'll need to send it to a gunsmiths.

  13. odd. orange bakelite looks nowt like wood at all to me.

jaager, you could always buy a couple of boxes of MAG AKM mags. they work great and with a bit of sandpaper, a buggered paint brush and some red varnish will look pretty realistic too.

It's when you cut into the mags you see the difference- the bakelite is very fibrous, and has the consistency, look and feel of plywood soaked in resin. Also, the external finish isn't flat orange, it has a "wood effect" look.

    -matt

  14. Its not plywood, its baklelite ;) Bakelite is a old plastic that was used alot in the old days and looks like wood.

And yeah its really easy to convert the bakelite ones compaired to the metal ones.

Also if you scratch the sureface of them while converting you can rub some oil on the and it will pretty much look good as new :)

Thats the most realistic wood effect i've seen! TM should use it on their ak's. I see what you mean now- I know of bakelite, but this is the first time i've handled it.

    cheers,

    matt
