  1. Good find dude. I am glad the magazines are working out great for you. I have a few questions though....

What gas are you using? How hot is it where you are? How hot was it when you were skirmishing with the magazines? How many magazines do you have? How many rounds have you put through each of the magazines you have?

Straight propane (Rothenberger brand, if that helps ;)), Relativley cool at the moment, probably about 20 Degrees C average? It was probably about 25-30 Degrees C when I was skirmishing, it was at the end of the "english heat wave" we had a wee while back :D

I have one old-style mag (not holding gas atm) and three newer ones, with the newer mags having a good 300 odd rounds through each one, at least.

Note that all temperatures are likely to be totally wrong, but I sure aint been keeping them in a freezer ;)

  2. Just thought I might give you lads all a heads up...

Remember when I said that my Gen 2 AGM mags were holding gas from a skirmish a few days before?

Well, A good couple of weeks have passed, and they're still holding the same gas with no problems or leaks. At all.

So, if you're after dirt cheap mags, the newer AGM ones will work perfectly fine, it seems. As far as holding gas goes, at any rate.

  3. Hey, if they ACTUALLY weigh that much, I'll probably get some. The gen 2 AGM mags are fine for me, but weigh the same as the original one. So, a lot. Just four of them weighs me down one hell of a lot, and I'd like to run with six mags or so, if possible.

  4. EAC 40rd GAS Magazine for WA M4 Series GBB $29.99

Looking at a upscaled photo of these and comparing them with the AGM MkII that I have here, they are a 100% match, down to the very last pin.

For the Record the AGM MkII mags are rubbish

How rare... I have three of them, and all of mine are fine. Lasted an entire day of skirmishing and are still holding gas fine... two days later. That's the same gas that was in them at the skirmish, mind ;)

If I could afford to do so, I'd buy a few more, though those EAC mags are looking rather interesting... Worth a poke, at least, eh? Especially seeing as the reduced weight will cut teh shipping costs.

  5. Quite simple... You just remove the floating valve from the nozzle, and chop the front down a couple of mm. Stops the BB rolling off the nozzle when placed upon it; This means that the BB is being pushed by the nozzle, and not by the floating valve.

  6. Sounds like it was...

I'm rather curious as to which sites would EVER let you use a 550fps AEG, semi only or not... Highest I've seen for AEG's is 400 fps, semi only.

Plus, there's the fact that it can probably fire full auto without much fuss, and as such is a section five firearm in every single way that counts.

  7. *stuff*

    Oh for...

Don't cut down your nozzle. That's just asking for trouble, and you'll get gas pissing out of the seal between it and the hop unit, due to the nozzle being too short.

I've already sorted this problem out, though nobody seems to have noticed it.

    Cut down your floating valve.

Seriously. Take the nozzle, and try to put a BB on it, as if it was being chambered by the bolt. I'll bet dollars to donuts (or whatever that phrase is) that it won't sit central on the nozzle, and will try and roll off elsewhere.

This is because the long thin bit at the front of the floating valve is too long. This will screw up the feeding slightly, due to the BB being all over the place, and, more importantly, it'll push the BB further forward when it' chambered.

Snip a few mm off the front of the floating valve, and it'll be shiny. My M4 was having problems with rounds falling out the barrel every now and then; not as bad as yours seems to be, but I still had the problem. The BB's were being pushed too far forwards while being chambered, forcing them past the hop bucking and letting them roll around to their heart's content. Now, with the float valve cut down, it's stopped doing this entirely, and the BB's sit exactly where they're meant to, 100% of the time.

  8. Had a look at the Hop while I was at it. I take it a new a special tool to move the delta ring, to check the hop

Generally a specialised tool is preferable to save mangling the nut; You can do it with pliers, bit this is liable to damage the nut and make it look nasty. You can buy one for about £20/$20 (cheaper in the US...), or you can just make one. I was tired with not having a proper tool to use, and made one out of a bit of wood and a few bolts with the threads filled off. Works like a charm.

  9. Also, excellent work MDK.

Nice to see somebody doing some proper work on these things.

Unfortunate that your camera is really, really awful.

I assume no marbles were required for that modification?

    ;)

<_< There was nowhere for me to put the marbles this time... :D

My camera is indeed terrible; I took the pics with my phone, which is... not great. I've got better pics for my review, but I couldn't be arsed to go get the decent camera when I took the pics of the nozzle.

I just need to fine-tune this now, and wait for my propane adapter to appear; three cans of propane sitting here, and no adapter to use with them :(

  10. MDK, do you see any issues with adding these shims? additional wear, durability of the the floating valve with added shims, etc? how many rounds have you put through it since you first installed them?

No, no issues yet; only horrible consistency, and I'm pretty sure that's not caused by adding the shims. Though, I've no clue what IS causing it!

I've not put many rounds through the gun with the shims there, as I'm trying to find what the damned gun is shooting at; my chrono is being awkward, as is the gun with the aforementioned consistency issues. I doubt that it'll add any additional wear; all that it does is make the floating valve sit further forward than normal; that's it.

As I said in my guide; this is, as far as I can tell, exactly what the NPAS system does; it changes where the floating valve sits. Though, the NPAS is adjustable on the fly; this isn't :P

  11. Well, here it is folks; how to downgrade your AGM M4 with nothing more than what you'll have in your drawers! Well, if you're a tech that's used to fiddling with things, that is ;) What you will require for this is:

    1 x AGM M4 (duh ;))

    1 x Sharp knife

1 x clippers (preferable, but not realy needed)

Screwdrivers to take apart the bolt

    Superglue

A handfull of 8mm shims (the wide ones)

Aaaand that's it! So, let's get started on this, eh?

So, we get ourselves the nozzle from your M4. Grab it out the bolt, I won't bother to show you how. We should then have this domajig:

    Photo0008.jpg

This is, in case you hadn't figured, the nozzle.

Now, grab the *albartroth* end out of the nozzle, and press on the floating valve like so, to push it out backwards...

    Photo0009.jpg

We're then met with the lovely sight of the floating nozzle and it's retaining thingumy, naked in all it's glory! Uh, yeah. This is what it looks like:

    Photo0010.jpg

Now, what we do is simply fit some of the shims to the back of the floating valve, as you can see in this picture:

    Photo0011.jpg

Shims are fitted from the back of the floating valve, and pushed flush with the back. The little nub thingy is generally a bit too fat to let the shims on all the way, so the knife is here to trim the nozzle so they fit on; I'm ###### at describing these fiddly things, and my phone is too terrible to take pics of it. Basically, try and get the shims on, and trim the nozzle where they get stuck. If you have a jot of common sense, you'll be fine.

Now, grab one of those shims and superglue it to the back of the floating valve. This has the effect of having the valve sit further forward than normal, making it close earlier, hence giving less gas down the barrel and less power; this is exactly what the RA-Tech NPAS does, only this isn't adjustable.

How far you want to push this forwards depends on how much you want the power to drop; I can't say how much you'll need to add, as it'll depend on what your gun is putting out, and various other factors. I have about 0.9mm of shims on mine, but my chrono is being ghey and not giving me a decent reading; that, and I have horrible consistency issues. So, I can't say how much you'll need. at a rough guess, try 0.6mm or so and go from there.

Now, the keen-eyed (and those with memory) would notice I mentioned clippers, and I've not mentioned them in this guide. Well, this isn't technically related to toning down the power! The use for these is cutting down the floating valve for more consistency. Even stock, a BB will tend to roll off the nozzle onto other parts of the bolt face; try it with a stock nozzle, especialy after this mod.

What you want to do is trim the bit of the nozzle that protrudes towards the front of the nozzle, so that it sits a couple of mm inside the nozzle, and allows a BB for sit properly on the gas port thingumy. As long as there's enough for the spring to sit on, you should be fine.

What this does is improve the feeding a bit; the BB;s no longer get pushed by the floating valve, and ONLY get pushed by the nozzle. As far as I can tell, this should improve the consistency somewhat, and maybe eve stop BB's rolling out the barrel! Can't hurt, at any rate!

So, there you have it. A cheap and dirty way to downgrade your AGM to sensible (for the UK) levels! Basically all you're doing is making the floating valve sit further forwards, using dirt-cheap AEG shims to do so. I recommend getting whichever brand has the thinnest 8mm shims; the thinner they are, the finer the adjustments you can do to the power.

    EDIT: Lol, copypasta button borked.

  12. WHAT ABOUT THE BUCKING(RUBBER HOP UP SLEEVE) IS IT THE SAME STYLE AS AEG BUCKING ? COULD I PUT A SYSTEMA BUCKING ON THERE

No, AEG buckings do not fit. And stop typing in capitals, it makes you sound like a loud, obnoxious idiot.

  13. wrong part - the bit you're thinking of is on opposite side of the bolt carrier, the bit in that photo above is just a small side piece that was supposed to represent the real deals extractor

bit of a fifty fifty tbh - if its left off it'll be somewhere else to pick up ###### but if its glued on less than 100 percent then it'll be something to work loose at worst possible time and jam something up.. so really comes down towether the OP is confident about doing a decent glue job on it

Pah, I forgot about that wee bit! In any case, it's not really a necessary part...

In other news, I think I may have the holy grail of the AGM M4; a dirt cheap and pretty easy way to reduce the power to whatever you want! I'm going to continue fiddling with it, and if I can get the power consistently below 330, I'll post it up. Currently, it's firing around 345 with Ultrair power gas.

  14. I have just fitted a Pro-Arms high power bolt to mine and all fitted nicely accept for the white tab on the nozzle end. It was a bit loose in the pro-arms bolt and when i fired the gun it came out.

i have removed it and the gun is still firing fine and for the life of me i cant see what that piece actually does.

will it be ok left off?

I'd superglue it in or something similar; this part stops the nozzle being pulled too far forwards out of the bolt. It's not NECESSARY, per say, in so far that the gun will likely still cycle without it, but I wouldn't reckon on it being good for the gun to not have it there.

  15. Care to crank that down some and see how LOW it can go?

Also, I'm currently chronoing my m4, with some added fun and games. Delta ring decided to loosen itself during firing, giving me a difference of 94 fps between the highest and lowest readings! Methinks it'll be a bit ore consistent with the front end, well, actually screwed in ;)

  16. Top tip from stealth there.

In other news, my AGM is FINALLY out for delivery; assuming parcelforce don't screw anything up, I'll have it in a (hopefully small) number of hours! I will do my best to whip up a comprehensive review of it when it does appear. What common issues should I be on the look out for, then?

So far I've seen mags swelling and leaking, as well as the hop having masking tape and generally being a bit wonky out of the box. Anything else to have a look for, then?

EDIT: HURRAH! It's here! I'm in love with this beastie already :D once I get some decent photos sorted, I'll get on with a review :D

  17. will this handguard fit with the AGM 061? I don't like the ris, but I need rails for the "additional" stuff :-)

    http://www.ebairsoft.com/magpul-handguard-black-p-2053.html

    Lance

If you can fit standard foregrips, you can fit that. It attaches in the exact same way. If you don't have a "normal" delta ring and handguard cap thingy (goes behind the front sight and holds the grip in place at that end) then you'll need those. Otherwise, it'll likely be a drop in fit. Worst that'd happen is it's too tight, requiring a small amount of filing.

  18. It's nothing to do with me, personally, but it's clearly not right to change the rules without even notifying people they they're GOING to change beforehand.

The rule I refer to, there is NO notification of any change, the last update by Arnie himself was in 2005, and I can find no update by Arnie, Marlowe or anyone else since then.

THAT is my point - you can't enforce a rule that no-one knows about, and you can't CHANGE a rule, not tell anyone, then expect them to follow the new rewritten rule.

Some consultation would be nice - I didn't really expect any, but it would be nice. Notice of any changes is the LEAST that should be done, to do otherwise is just plain stupid. If you want to run a forum that's just a playground for the people in charge to do whatever the hell they want, well, that's fine, but the UK already has one of those, and many of the people HERE left THAT forum because of the way they do business.

Lastly, I don't see that my perfectly reasonable suggestion - which in no way states or implies that I want to be somehow treated differently or that anything I mention only applies to me - requires a frankly rude reply from the forum staff. If that's the way you want to Mod, then perhaps you're Modding on the wrong forum - on Arnies we used to have a friendly atmosphere, not the Us and Them approach you seem to advocate.

Well, you make one good point here; we could do with a concise and up to date version of the rules. However, the rules have hardly changed since they were laid down, so it's a moot point.

Thing is, when a rule is changed, an announcement is made, which is normally ignored by all; but that's by the by. The staff of arnies isn't the government, we don't have to discuss openly every new rule we make. When a new one comes into force, the forum is told. That's how it's always operated, and that's how it will always operate. Not just on this forum, but on pretty much every other forum in existence. It's how forums work. They are, without exception (that I know of) based on a dictatorship. However, as I said, when a rule is made or changed, the forum is notified, without exception. We're benevolent, remember.

I do like your playground analogy, though; it implies that the moderating team is going around laying down new rules willy-nilly and screwing with the userbase simply because we can. Unfortunately, this just isn't true. The forum has, to be honest, been left to it's own devices for many years. Rules have, as I said, stayed mostly the same. The only major changes were due to the userbase expanding (more americans and people with >1j laws, so 1j rule went) and the VCRA screwing up sales and forcing us to put restrictions on who could buy and sell.

Everybody had to put up with these new rules, whether we like it or not, and we had to, to put it bluntly and repeat myself, get used to it or get out. I'm sure some members did indeed leave in disgust at these new rules that were imposed, but the majority realised that it was for the better of the forum.

Apologies if you took me being blunt as rudeness, but I'm really not in the mood for farting around with niceties and metaphors. The rules are the rules. Moderators are here to enforce the rules. This isn't going to change any time soon. Again, sorry if you took me being blunt the wrong way, but that's just how things are. Rules don't get discussed openly with the forum, as it'd be chaos if we did, and nothing would ever get done.

I suggest you take the night off and calm down, then come back to all of this. Though it may come as some surprise to you, I too once had anarchistic "T3H MODZ AM CORRUPT" views of arnies. The reason I don't any more is I gained maturity and the realisation that what the moderating staff do is for the good of the forum. And, if you reckon me getting a moderating position had anything to do with the change of heart; I got offered the spot about a year after this all went away.

  19. Wouldn't it be better to be able to have users close their own sales thread, instead of having to pester a Mod, who I'm sure have better things to do...?

(Or can we do that already without me noticing?)

Okay. Look at that wonderful little bar that appears to the elft of this post, telling you all about me, the author of this post. Notice what it says for "Group"?

It says "Sales/Off Topic Moderator". That is, it's my job to keep order in two main sections of the forum; sales, and off topic. Odly enough, the sales section is included in these two sections. There are, at current count, 5 other mods that do this same job, and only this same job. That's not taking into account Global mods and the admins (IE, marlowe and, when he's about, arnie). Plenty of people who basically are here to patrol the sales topics. If you'd rather we were going around off-topic and cracking down on every little stray off-topic that happened there, instead of moderating sales, then fine. I'm sure I can get the guys to try it for a few days and see what sort of anarchy descends.

Have you actually thought about the consequences of giving users the power to close topics, sales or otherwise? Lets just take sales.

Imagine someone decides to scam someone one day. They advertise something for sale, get a buyer, and receive payment. Then, they post something along the lines of "Sold!", and close the thread, and vanish. Your casual observer is none the wiser as to what's happened, and will have no idea that the user has just scammed someone. And may buy from, and get scammed by, that same user at a later date.

This is just a very simple example of why it's a damned bad idea. The best way to keep order in a big forum, such as this, is either to police it so hard that you can't do anything new without getting banned, or restrict what users can do. Think about it; the average user is very restricted, especially compared to what proboards allows by default. You can't delete posts, editing times out after five minutes, you can't close your own topics.... There's a hell of a lot you can't do, and it's like that to keep the forum running smoothly.

In any case, I can lock a topic faster than you can go to the bathroom. In fact, I think all the mods can. If you can think of a better use for those three seconds, I'm happy to hear it.

Quick Edit: Wow, you really are trying your hardest to troll Site Suggestions tonight, aren't you? If I find one more post like this lurking around, or made recently, I'm going to seek something out in my applicable jurisdictions and double warn you. You have been warned.

  20. So, basically, you think that you, or indeed the average forum user, should have a democratic say on the rules governing the forum?

    Tough.

Arnies is a dictatorship. Get used to it. This is not a democracy, in any way shape or form. There are those with power, and those without. You are part of the masses; That is, those WITHOUT power. True, it's a benevolent dictatorship, but it's a dictatorship nonetheless. Arnie is in supreme charge, as it's his website. A while back, he left Marlowe as an admin in his stead, and various other mods with varying powers were assigned to people who were deemed trusted and respectable, and so forth.

The rules are made by the admins, with the higher-up mods consulted. The rules are generally chosen to enhance the forum experience for the average user, or to protect the forum (This was the reason for the recently revoked 1J rule). They are not; I repeat, NOT made to tailor to what a specific member wants, or feels is appropriate.

The long and short of it is, we (the moderating and admin guys) know what we're doing. New rules are made for a reason, for the betterment of the forum at large. Bluntly, get used to it or get out. If you decide that these new rules affect you directly, well, tough. The rules are the rules, and we're not about to change them for one member. If a significant portion of the forums thinks they suck, then we might do something (Remember, this is a benevolent dictatorship ;)), but one member compared to the whole forum? Do the math.

To put it in a nutshell, when you said "Oh, by the way, we changed the rules and now you'd better toe the line.", you were spot on. That's how it is. Blunt, succinct, and to the point. To be blunt once more; Deal with it.

Also, apologies if any of the moderating team feel irked at me referring to arnies as a dictatorship; But, it's an apt description, used before many times, so, meh :P

  21. Terrible pictures, as usual, but hey ho....

    Photo0010.jpg

I don't like doing things the orthodox way B)

In case anybody is wondering, it's JG G36c, internally fettled by myself, running at 328fps on the dot, and flings 0.25's out to 55-60m nicely. Oh, and that's a RS AK74 mag that's been press-ganged into use there. Holds a shade under 500 rounds, feeds and fits flawlessly, and is, well, awesome.

  22. *parts stuff*

Awesome! Keep us all appraised of what else does and doesn't fit, eh? I'd love to do this kind of testing myself, but no way do I have the money for all the parts... :(

  23. I will pick my DD AGM M4 up today. It has been in the customs hands for 9 days now :) Hope it will be good :)

Pah, mine was in customs for almost a month. I don't doubt it was the first into the UK, but... Well, Customs just decided to take their time with it.

It should be in my hands by monday, so I'll do a full, proper review then; until now, all we seem to have is a couple of mini-reviews, and people saying that they like it. I'll do a full takedown and take pics of any and all faults/niggles/whatever that I find, as well as how I'll be lowering the FPS, if I can figure a way to do so ;)
