Maybe it would help if people actually considered WHY they've been given negative rep points? Most if not all of the "wars" that have broken out that I've seen have gone as follows: numpty posts rubbish/offensive material; forum users point this out in thread; numpty calls everyone faygits or some such term of endearment; forum users award -points; numpty squeals like a stuck pig before realising they are as popular as a nun in a brothel; numpty goes away to annoy other forums OR realises error of ways and shuts up.

 

Hmm, put like that, I really can't see a problem with the system.

There's a really simple solution to this.

 

MAKE IT POSITIVE REPUTATION ONLY!

 

It allows people to show they have contributed to the forum, or that someone has brightened their day, or has posted something they found useful.

 

Removing the option to neg-rep would prevent the stupid rep wars breaking out.

 

In addition, I would happily put myself forward to solely moderate rep, as I feel it's a worthwhile addition to the forums.

I though it added a fun dynamic to the forum, plus it meant traders could have feedback left. Plus it alowed you to se wether someone's info was likely to be trustworthy or not.

I don't hin the rep system should be removed. I think it added a good dynamic to the forum.

 

If you didn't like it, you didn't have to use it, but for sales and so forth it was well worth having.

I think it's to allow you to edit the text file, but because that function is locked, it returns that error.

I do think that the rep system works, pretty much, given that you should be posting accurate reasons for WHY that Rep was given.

 

I don't ever expect to be given Rep for my advice or my behaviour. It's a nice bonus, and makes me feel warm and fizzy when it happens.

 

I will only rep someone if they have done something out of the ordinary, or brightened my day. Marlowe got rep added because he is a great contributor to these forums. I actually felt guilty when I got a rep point back in return, because I didn't feel I deserved it.

Watch his rep go down and down.It's dropped four points in 20 minutes. Part of me feels like starting a pool on how low it gets before he get banned for spamming/flaming.
