  1. I'm happy with it so far, my biggest bugbear has been fixed, the labeling of US & UK trade pages. Moderation and Admin is usually kept to a pretty high standard (having run forums for a living for an MMORPG company, this is something I always look at), also you have a good global spread of staff, which means response times aren't limited to US or UK timezones. Bizarely I only just noticed the show hide content buttons after thinking that was needed... so that is taken care of and many sections I never use are now hidden. I do think a copy of the Classified Forum rules should be contained in the sub forum linked to from the top right "Forum Rules & Guidelines" hyperlink.

Other than that I don't think there is much I'd change from your current model, I'll have a think on it for a few more days

  2. Introduction:

I've had my eye on this 3 in 1 jacket for quite a while, I already have a high opinion of Tasmanian Tiger (TT) from the Ammunition Vest and Mk1 Chest Rig I own, having browsed their website I'd settled on getting myself a Nevada and Arizona jacket to replace a multitude of fleeces and jackets that I already owned and just took up too much space. However spending this amount on a jacket is something I can't afford to do on a whim atm, times are hard and all that, fortunately Xmas came and my parents and grandparents both gave me money. This moved the jacket from the category, "I'd love to have that when I can justify the money", to "MINE!"

I ordered through ASMC.de they are one of the best suppliers of military and outdoors gear I have found to date, the price of this jacket also paid for an annual 20% discount card with them (as soon as you put the card in your basket it counts on that transaction) and for once the 50 euro minimum order was not a problem.

    My Review:

The last few months have been bitter cold, I'm sure most of you in the UK will remember, my jacket arrived a few weeks before Xmas and went into immediate use. Prior to this I had mostly been wearing an Oakley outdoor jacket I picked up a few years ago for work and my TT Nevada outside of work. While the Nevada is a great windproof jacket, wearing multiple layers for travelling to a from work wasn't really practical as it left my work shirts looking like I had spent the night in a skip. Since getting this jacket, I have worn it on most occasions, it is a fantastically warm and comfortable jacket.

Now, to answer the main question I had in my head before I bought this jacket, "Is that a Colorado Fleece inside?" The answer I'm afraid, is no it isn't. It's a nice lightweight fleece (I'm yet to wear it outdoors on it's own yet) no thumb loops like the Colorado. It secures into the outer jacket by means of small loops on the sleeves and neck, which a webbing strap from the outer jacket passes through and press-studs closed. It also uses it's zip to secure it into the front of the outer. It has two chest pockets and two waist pockets, a drawstring at the hem, the zip is baffled and also when the zip is at the top there is a small pocket to stop it rubbing against skin and presumably to cut down on zip rattle.

The outer jacket is excellent quality material and contains pockets, so many pockets... a sideopening zip pocket on the left sleeve and a buttoned, top closing one on the right. Two large bellows pockets at the front with slash pockets behind. The chest pockets are very roomy and behind the left chest pocket is a very large inner pocket (will comfortable fit the TT wallet) the zip for this inner pocket is of course in a useful place... they really have thought about this jacket. The zip is between the main jacket zip and is covered by the velcro closure outer baffle meaning no having to open your jacket to reach your inner pockets, yet the zips are concealed enough you can be secure putting wallets, papers etc inside. There is also a matching zip on the right which allows access into the right hand fleece pocket. The bellows and chest pockets (as well as the right arm pocket) all have slotted buttons on a sturdy webbing strap.

As with the German smocks of old there is a wastline and hemline drawcord, these are elasticated and do a very nice job of keeping the outside world out and the jacket sitting firmly in-place. There are airholes under the arms in the moleskin combats design, however on mine at least there is no actual opening, just the stitching around a circle of still sealed fabric. I suspect come summer I may look at opening these up. The sleeves have velcro closure as does the outer baffle on the main zip.

There is a concealed drawstring hood inside the collar, I've yet to actaully use it for it's design purpose as I wear my leather hat everywhere... however this keeps the collar wonderfully thick and stiff... it is a very high collar and it is possible for me to pull my head down so my hat rests against the top to keep the outside world out on some of those cold windy railway platforms. However if you so desire, you can zip off the hood, this is a feature I really quite like.

Overall the jacket is lovely and warm and the water resistant material has kept me dry in the few short showers we've had... of course it's not water proof and the inside of the bellows pockets were starting to get a little moist by the time I got out of the rain, so anything you don't want getting damp at all may need to live in the inner pockets or (as I do with alot of my things anyway) in sainsbury's ziplock freezer bags. After keeping hold of my extra fleeces and jackets for a few weeks, they are now sat in a charity bag (well... all except my extreme conditions gore-tex) and I am confident that this will meet most of my needs in the year to come. I still wince a bit at the price and wonder if it really was worth that much, however on the 'price per wear' justification system I often employ... it's working out as a bargain and more-so every day.

  3. Yeah, I'm afraid there are some makes of G3 magazine that just don't fit JG's, I had two included as part of a bulk deal with a TM MC-51. If you look at the top of the magazine (and if it's anything like the problem I had) you'll notice the rings around the feed opening are different thicknesses, with mine I just enlarged the inner diameter of the TM compatible ones until they loaded comfortably in the JG, that was the only modification needed.

  4. A shame we can't see who has given the feedback... people are a little less quick to be keyboard heroes when feedback isn't anonymous.

That being said, every forum I've run professionaly took the reputation/karma/whatever system out, trolls and keyboard heroes spoil it for the majority that would find it useful.

  5. Been using these guys for a couple of years via mailorder, they're fantastic, their stock control is great, as is their customer service. I also love the fact that once you have registered, it retains your shopping basket for ever, unless you delete an item. Website has good English language, although catalogue and catalogue screenshots used on the website are in German only. It is one of the few companies I can 'hand on heart' say, I've never had a problem with.

They do have a 50 euro minimum order on all mailorder though.

If you're doing a big order make sure you buy one of their discount cards, you can buy them in 10%, 15 and 20% off for a year. I've bought 20% twice now and they're useable on the order you buy them. My last order paid for the entirety of the card and saved me about 20 euro, so shopping for the rest of the year is all 20% off for me and even if I don't place another order... I still saved money. Their catalogue is dangerous, once you own one you will spend too much time finding things you 'need'. The airsoft stuff seems a little over-priced, but that's not an issue for me as I buy in my home country. They have a good range of proper military gear and even have a few handy bits for re-enactment.

Also, most importantly of all, if you're buying German Military gear http://www.asmc.de/content/en/Size-Charts.html they have a complete set of size comparrison charts :D

  6. That's because you need 100 posts to see them/post in them. You have two options...

    1) Get out there, get involved in the community, make 100 useful posts, access sales section.

    2) Get out there, spam for all your worth, get reported, have post count set to -99 and be twice as far away from accessing the sales section.

    I'd go with option one.

  7. Possibly my favourite of my guns, but just because it took so long to get one and I refused to settle for using a standard USP for my loadout. Forgive the picture quality, it's certainly not on a par with many here... however while phones get better, they also stay the same, lol.

  8. Hi there oh omniscient admins,

I was wondering, what is the chance of being able to filter out certain sections of the classifieds? There's nothing more depressing than seeing the gun of your dreams and finding it on the American Sales Section. Would it be possible to create a filter so you could choose to ignore US Sales, Worldwide, or indeed UK Sales when using New Posts... or indeed just ignore certain sales sections entirely?

It's been a while since I've worked seriously on any forums, certainly long enough to not be able to remember if it's possible.

I'll leave it to you, but I'd love it... keep falling in love with guns on the strength of the thread title and then finding it's in the wrong country... breaks my heart, lol.

    Cheers

    Mat (obviously)

    Edited for paw spooling.

Yes... well it's kind of help...

What you are trying to link to is a dynamic image (hence the error message you were getting), the = signs are the give away. What you need to do is host it yourself on a site that doesn't use dynamic links, such as imageshack or photobucket.

  10. Oh yeah, very similar, there are times when it's out for long periods at a time... neither of us are suprised by it anymore, but it's a free (for the user, not for those running it) site and you have to get used to it. I'd say on average that I get time outs on Arnies 10 times a day and about 5 - 20 minutes each time.

But like I say, it's a 'free' site, one gets used to it.

  11. I wish I could take the credit for it, currently she's all the the work of Aitch, however in time this will change :)

With stock folded... just in case nobody could imagine it, lol.

  12. Okay, not a prettily presented as some, but so proud of my purchase from Aitch that I wanted to share.

For your delectation, a gun which causes more arguments that it ever stopped. Marketed as a Sub-Machine Gun, but carrying other names on RS sites, such as Sub-Carbine, Sub-Assault Rifle, PDW. I'm happy to go with the manufacturor F R Ordnance and call it an SMG. The most frequent misnomer regarding this gun is it's name, on airsoft sites and computer game sites everywhere you'll see it called a G3 SBS, on real steel sites you'll see it called the MC51 Suppressed, or MC51 SBS - I've yet to find a real steel site that calls it a G3 SBS.

This certainly doesn't belong in the G3 thread as it's an MC51 not a G3 and it doesn't belong in the H&K thread as it's made by F R Ordnance (now owned by Imperial Defence), so I figured this will be a nice home for it... I'm sure some will argue.

As you'll see it has the folding stock, rather than a slide stock. This should be changed in a couple of weeks, although it is growing on me, however I do want to use clmaped mags, which I can't do with a folded stock. One of Aitch's additions that I really like is the elastic strap on the handguard, it holds those tricksy pins in and also doubles as somewhere to secure a pressure switch pad. This is the replacement for my lovely SIG, while not quite as short, it is the shortest Real Steel weapon from the G3 platform and is a continuing part of trying to get my main weapons all on one platform.

So far it (I've already noticed myself using the word 'She' when running through what to type and have been studiously changing it to 'it') has only been shot down the length of the house, out of the patio doors and down the garden so far, looking forward to my first skirmish with it (her, lol).
