  1. So as it is now do we have two versions floating around the shops? The non hop and the hop?

What were the benefits of hop and non hop? I can't seem to recall

AFAIK there was never a non-hop version. There maybe one with an adjustable hop and a nonadjustable hop, but so far I've heard of the adjustable hop type.

  2. AB,

With this new AFC version coming out and having the colt markings, is there anyway to do a custom engraving on the opposite side to say "Law Enforcement/Government Use Only" type of thing?

I don't know if that would be accurate. The AFC version has M4/"Property of US Govt" rollmarks. AFAIK military M4s don't have the "Law Enforcment/Government Use Only" engraved on the right side. That sort of thing is reserved for the commercial carbines, like the Colt 6920.

  3. I'm not sure what your obsession is with the hole in the magwell

Yeah I know what you are trying to say. I guess I'd rather not have a hole? While I'm sure there are shops that do offer such services, the rates will undoubtedly be higher. As an example, I was charged $80 for essentially welding to peices of steel tube together and to and fro shipping.

Regardless, we have Colt rollmarks on the AFC. That's a step in a good direction.

  4. they cant fix it withought changing the material the gun is made from. things come in time. if WE has said that a 3rd party is going to make accessories for their gun that means its going to happen sooner or later. if your not willing to take the iniciative and engrave your own trades (via your own stuff or a place that does engravings) than:

    1) stop trying to convince yourself to buy a WE and return to the corner of AEGs, or,

    2) wait longer and be patiant.

watch the news sites and wait.

besides, the only cosmetic problem goes unseen by everyone not looking in your magwell, are you that uptight about it?

Consider the price of custom engraving a receiver, along with shipping, and the trouble of convincing whoever you are getting to engrave your receiver that your airsoft lower is not an actual firearm. Now consider the magwell hole issue, which I've never heard of occuring in a WA or a real lower. From this I conclude that it may not be worth the trouble, and hence I ask for updates regarding aftermarket parts from anyone who knew anything.

Having delivered no news in this regard, thank you for your advice on patience.

If you have actually asked a trophy store about their willingness to engrave what looks to be a firearm with possibly copyrighted trademarks, then please, share your experience. Otherwise, don't trivially tell others to walk into a trophy engraving place.

    AB:

Thanks for the continued informative updates. The AFC version looks terrific, very clean rollmarks.

I think its safe to conclude that the "custom engraved" version on WGC is just this AFC version. I originally believed WGC was itself engraving a batch of regular WEs.

  5. Where are the aftermarket parts? Does anyone have any news on any development?

I somehow think engraving the stock body is a bit north of not worth it, particularly since WE is keen on not fixing that cosmetic defect in the magwell.

  6. Look ma, no batteries! And Gas tube! :)

    Thats my WE with:

    Samurai PRI front sight.

    ICS folding Rear sight

    Element LaRue Replica 7" RAS

As those who know the Element LaRue replicas cannot take a gas tube, which means the RAS was prone to rotating around the barrel collar. Of course being me I drilled a hole the same diameter as the gas tube and hence not only does the RAS not rotate, it also fits the gas tube. (because of that you "could" technically put an Element RAS on a Real steel)

Point to note is, AEG accessories are not designed for recoil, and the samurai front sight started to disassemble itself from the recoil. I had to put superglue to hold the pins in. It required me to modify the outer barrel slightly to fit the PRI sight as the holes don't match so a dremel was needed to mount both holes.

ICS folding rear sights is generally quite a sturdy piece, however the sight does move forward and backwards from the recoil :P

Also modded the sliding to stock a 6 position instead of the default 4 position as well as modded the pistol grip to that more of the A1 style for my small hands.

Taking airsoft to a whole new dimension eh ? :) Rifle is now less than 2.5kg heavy.

Looks great man. Really wish there were some rollmarks on the receiver though. That's about the only thing preventing me from getting one now.

  7. bahahahahahahaha! That's a HORRIBLE excuse! Anyone who believes this is an idiot cuz that's NOT a hole for a purpose...that's just a hole due to poor molding.

I somewhat agree. I take what AirsoftBuddy reported as WE saying "we know it's a problem, but since it doesn't affect functionality, we're not going to fix it."

I honestly can't wait until some aftermarket replacement kits come out with rollmarks, and are of similar quality to the WA pieces.

  8. Thanks Lupus78!!!!!

WE power restriction kit for GBB M4 rifle will available after 15 days at www.airsoftbuddy.com. Once you installed it to your WE GBB M4, it can reduce the power and doesn't reduce the felt recoil. Once I got more information about it, I will post it here and our website.

AirsoftBuddy, and anyone in the know,

Can you tell us more about this "Custom Engraved" model that is now being listed on WGC?

    Thanks.

  9. Like I said, it's not really "wear," the receivers come like that as a consequence of the design.

It doesn't matter anyway though with regards to functionality... the only thing exposed there is the mag catch spring.

No I see what you are saying, I'd still prefer if it weren't cracked. I don't think this is a commonly encountered or tolerated problem on real AR15s, and I haven't ever seen anything like it on AEGs.

  10. Yes, hop up is too high even with no hop adjuster attached. But that is also hiding a few more issues as well.

Mind you no silicone oil in the barrel either.

I see. I guess the alternate solution is to switch to a heavier BB.

    Thanks for the report.

The wear in the magwell is a bit troubling to me though.

  11. Wont that add length to the outer barrel though? Might make it look a little weird but sounds like its my only option

Just wondering if anyone can confirm that the pistol grip of the WE is real spec? Im just wondering if the G&P storm grip for the WA will fit without extensive modding, as i hear the WA pistol grips are real spec. Cheers

    Yeah adds about an inch.

You guys have me sold, I may be getting one as soon as the steel bolt stops come in.

  12. Describe the forward assist issue? What do you mean it pops out, and when is super glue used?

The idea is great, but the implementation so so: seems like a lot of stuff just falls apart on arrival with the WE. The aftermarket really needs to develop.

It's strange that the IB is not coaxial with the outer. Is this due to the IB flexing? The outer barrel not clamped tight enough? I'm having a tough time imagining this problem, and why switching to a shorter barrel would alleviate the issue if they aren't coaxial to begin with.

  13. the US economy is slowly coming back, but wait untill febuary when our new prez swears in and he implaments his plans. the exchange rate should make a jump in the right direction.

    Horsem4n:

Well, the markets saw drastic overall decline when Obama won the election (while Obama's win probably had only a small effect on it), and we should be preparing for what I would call rampant tax increases, along with the possibility of "gun control" bills that may or may not effect airsoft as a sport, so I wouldn't say anything is certain, but let's not get off topic. I'm sure it will hardly effect your ability to purchase a $400 airsoft gun.

I know we're all very excited about this, but repeatedly asking whether or not this will happen or not is a bit pointless, since no one knows. Like I said, the only thing's I'm quite certain will not carry over from the WA/TM AEG kits are the inner barrels, outer barrels, the receiver, and obviously everything internal to the receiver.

    Lupus:

    That's great to hear.

  14. I've used some silicone just as Jin did. After some refills and adding silicone once a while, these mags should be fine. We'll see if acem4 will get his mag to working condition. Has he tried greasing the o-rings with something thicker than just silicone oil? That has done the trick usually for my other gbb-magazines... Especially on hammer valves.

About the rifle so far, I've found actually nothing that I could improve in quality, except the weak bolt stop. According to SAA, WE already ships their new rifles with steel bolt stops. And hopefully the cocos receiver was just a rare lemon. Magazines are also more than fine for their price. And of course there's a need to drop the fps to more tolerable levels in most countries. But that seems to be relatively easy to remedy with aftermarket parts.

I think for a first rifle ever for WE, this seems like a clear winner. And nothing less.

    My favourite airsoft gun, ever.

PS. I don't think the aftermarket business in general is as enthusiastic of this gun, since there's so little you can improve. On WA you wanted to change 99% of the parts. Plus this gun WILL eat a lot of potential customers for WA. ;)

All true, except by aftermarket I meant mostly external improvements. It certainly can't hurt to have the option of a 20" barrel, or a lower that actually has rollmarks.

  15. So let me tally the problems encountered by people who bought the retail version of the WE.

    - Leaky mags right out of the box that fix themselves with use (Lupus' case), are fixed with moderate application of silicon oil (Jin's case), or cannot be fixed (acem4's case).

    - Cracked rear upper receiver tab right out of the box (cocofr69's case).

    - Broken bolt catch after 500 rnds fired (Jin's case).

    - Loose valves on magazine after 500 rnds and repeated dropping onto carpetted surface (Jin's case, reparable).

Note that all these problems have been reported, the only repeat offender is the leaky magazine. Tell me if I miss something. Certainly this is no TM, but we weren't expecting that out of a V1 from a semi-startup manufacturing like WE. I'm overjoyed that someone other that W frickin A decided to go the GBB M4 route, and that the outcome is not a total peice of ######. I just hope again that an aftermarket develops, if not from the usual people who for whatever reason up and supported the WA in a week, then from new people like SAA.

As for ASGI's choice, it's really a shame, though I can't say I blame them if they're based in California. WE has the potential to have something twice as skirmishable as the WA at a quarter of the cost, and there is absolutely no way it is more realistic than the WA, at least in terms of operation.

  16. he could JB weld that *badgeress* back on. only looks glued.

If real steel dustcover sets work, that's a total of $5 for a new set in the States.

Speaking of AEG outer barrel compatibility, has any of the owners tried to install a TM AEG outer barrel on this?
