  1. Tantal kits are fairly cheap if you want the correct gas block, front sight, and brake, and you can always sell the extra parts. I think you might even be able to use the RSB as well.. As long as you have access to someone with a lathe to turn the AEG barrel down it shouldn't be difficult. The hardest part will be adapting the tantal safety to an AEG I think. I've thought of ways to do it but none of them involve lowering the safety lever axis so it wouldn't be true tantal. None of them are that good, either..

Also, Dan, a plum tantal has been a dream of mine for a few years. Nothing beats a nice gray park finish with some plum. Excuse me while I go force my tax return back into my wallet...

  2. I thought the RS upper receiver cover was too short for AEG based guns.

The new AK 12 looks really good. The inner barrel has more twist to improve accuracy, the rear sight looks like it can be removed from the top rail, it comes in different calibres, the upper receiver cover looks to be fixed and not loose like the ones now so optics will stay zero'd. I'm not sure whats going on with the flash hider as the original 74 one was just the right length before rounds started hitting the end of it. the new one looks longer so it will be interesting to find out why.

All in all if your going to ris up an AK leave it to the russians to get it right.

If you're getting strikes on a brake you have a problem bigger than the length of the brake. That all comes from how and how well it's mounted to the barrel. This looks like the barrel is threaded unlike the 74 and 100 series where the FSB was threaded, so as long as the threads are remotely concentric strikes won't be a problem. It's that long because the expansion chamber needs to be large to be effective, and in order to keep it roughly the same volume but make it thinner (iirc they wanted it to be compatible with some rifle grenade standard) they had to make it longer. The '74 brake is a very effective design, should be interesting to see how this compares.

I love the look of the 12 and it looks like it will solve a lot of their problems. The only thing I wish they did was raise the comb of the stock and run taller irons so you can co witness optics designed for ar15 height irons. I know it has an adjustable cheek piece, but it looks like it's too far back to be very useful in some situations. Also, a FS/GB would have been nice to shave some weight at the front of the rifle.

  3. Airsoft rear sight blocks take real steel stuff just fine. Also, make sure the unit can adjust as much as you need it to. Airsoft receivers are 5mm longer than real ones, they might only have built it to adjust for a very small amount of variation in receiver length.

Saiga shotguns take the same length dust covers as the rifles. I don't see how that would work on one, though. At least the ones we get over here since they don't have a traditional RSB..

  4. F-that....lol, that looks like it'll be lighter than the MI one I have.... :D

12.9 oz with the three rail sections added, 11.3 without. Not that much of a difference, but I'm a fan of the slimmer profile and QD sling points. Saves me money on rail covers and a sling mount.

looks nice, but I still think that an Ultimak and polimer lower handguard serve the same purpose and are much lighter :)

Yeah, there really isn't much a difference for airsoft. I like gripping my real steel a bit farther out than I can with the normal handguards, plus the ultimaks get really hot on those!

  5. Speaking of new products, midwest is going to start selling this is a few weeks.

    And the long version.

I'm pretty pumped, I've been waiting for a modular handguard like this for a long time. No more rail than you need, nice and light, QD sling swivel spots.. Ships with 2x 1" rail and a 3" rail, perfect for a light and VFG.

  6. Changing the front sight won't do anything if there aren't 14mm threads under the current piece since the 14mm threads are always cut into the barrel, not part of the FSB. Take the front sight block off and see if there are 14mm threads under it. If there are, you can just cut off the 24mm threaded part of the LCT FSB. If there aren't, you'll need to find someone who can thread the barrel.

  7. So nobody knows for the G&G PBS-1 on the LCT? :(

It should fit, Redwolf lists the G&G PBS-1 as 14mm with an anticlockwise adapter, so it should do both clock and anticlockwise. LCT barrels (the actual barrel thread, not the larger adapter piece) should be 14mm, you can test that with any other airsoft flash hider you have kicking around.

  8. Seriously?..

The mount and optic I use is probably lighter than just the siderail mount of the kobra without an optic. It doesn't apply to airsoft, but the TWS cover is almost as light as the old dust covers alone! Sure is adding so much weight to the rifle, right? I can get my mount low enough to co-witness, and I dare you to find a sidemount that can do that with a micro-dot or even offers a comfortable cheek weld (god mode, find one centerd over the bore of every rifle you use it on!). It's small and very low profile so I don't have anything to interfere with sidefolders or my body/gear when I have it slung. Not to mention open sights are not an ideal solution as far as durability goes, and I would much rather have a closed sight over an open sight on the market, especially a 30 year old Russian design...

I'm sorry I live in a world where both my airsoft and real rifles may at some point need a flashlight on them. I'm sorry I can't settle for a chin weld looking through an outdated optic that might get me in a bit of trouble if the batteries die and I don't have time to mess with pulling the mount off because I can't use irons with it on. I'll be sure to bow to the superior and infinite wisdom of Kalashnikov, who, after using t-34 modified with a long stroke gas piston to look into the future and see the wonderful things we put on rifles today, decided that his rifle should never have the ability to mount anything that could possibly be useful and that everyone who uses it needs to needs to cling to 60 year old ideas.

  9. loving the new RDS mount!

you know what i reckon would look REALLY cool and unique? lose the ultimAK and replace it with a full length, bare, AMD65 style gas tube. i've never seen it done and i reckon it'd look seriously mean.

That would look pretty cool, but I need the ultimak for slings and lights every once in a while. Plus, it helps keep the front end rock solid, I'm afraid to even take it apart since I have everything fitting so well together.

My saiga did not like the midwest mount at all, so I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it for airsoft or not. I like the optic on the ultimak since it sits lower and I can cowitness, but the midwest mount does look awesome..

  10. Awww yeah. The midwest mount is pretty nice. The diode for the primary arms micro dot is in a terrible place so I can't get it to co-witness though. It's on my real steel right now, and if I don't like shooting with it then it'll get stuck on airsoft duty.

Sorry for the terrible picture, this thing really needs some paint and I need a place to take pictures that isn't cold and covered in snow.

  11. Anyone know if the private parts AAC suppressors work with any other brand of flash hider? I have the PPA can and flash hider but I want to be able to put it on a few different rifles without unscrewing the flash hider every time and I can't find the PPA flash hiders anywhere.

  12. I don't know, the method which the selector is attached does not look like RS, and the method which to take off the RS selector doesn't seem to work...

Hmm, I figured it would need to be similar to function with the GBB trigger mech. The more you know..

The only bad thing about winter is it's too cold to refinish my rifles...

the 102 should be getting a new optic soon and the 635 will have a spare 16" upper with the G&P knight hawk kit. I'm thinking about keeping it at 400 with .25s and just running a madbul crawler to keep the FPS down on the original upper for the few times I go to a CQB place with a low FPS limit. Other than that they both need STRs when they're released and I'll be happy.

  14. The railed dust cover on that is a Texas Weapon Systems Dogleg v2. I've been following it quite a bit since it was released and so far the reviews have been nothing but positive. Holds zero and repeats when the cover is opened. It's got a few tricks built in that helps it do that, unlike the stock dust cover. I really wish I could get one to fit on an AEG receiver..

That must be a fairly recent photo, iirc the cover has only been out for a few months.

  15. Albeit some minor issues with the beta project mags (which caused some feeding & air-leakage issues initially), she was fun to sport, but I'm still not quite used to the weight balance (front heavy) and mag changing.

I ran into the same problems with mine. My BP mag doesn't like to feed and the gun itself was much too front heavy with the UltimAK to be comfortable for long games. The polymer railed handguards might not be as versatile or true to the original, but they feel much better to me.

Anyway, anybody knows which is the base gun? because I dont think Beta project has much experience making guns...

The rear sight and rear sight block doesn't look like a CYMA, I would bet dboys at that price.
