It's odd that TM decided to make another AK-47. And it really kind of puts the spotlight on how remarkable it is that despite all of their other progress and innovation, TM still can't make "wood" that looks halfway decent.
It's possible to get it there, though.- 2

MG4 is neat. How/where?

What kinda cracks me up about all of these purist-offending updated AKs on this page and last is that they all have left alone the biggest visible feature that can really use an update: the stock.
But yeah anyway renegadecow your AK looks pretty much like my real one (other than it's full-length). That comp is a real friend-maker.- 1

Well now I'm real curious about those pics that are missing.
Bada Bing, that's kinda cool. Also... is that a Nona that's been graffiti'd to *suitcase*?? Kind of a shame. -

Nice job, GRIM!
The Getty watermark really sells it.

Sure, this thread, why not.

Let's get a bit artsier.

Some images from back in March at MSW's Rostov Rising.
I ran a 5-man recon element. Here we are steady chilling in an impromptu LP/OP, taking it easy because we were up most of the previous night doing the same thing very close to enemy lines.
Several times during the weekend we were able to identify, infiltrate, and hit the rear of a much larger element and roll them up. In this photo, we've just overrun a platoon CCP, effectively ending a major assault. Good times.
The whole element.

My old carbine is now an IDF blaster.

Highly recommend the Obzor, if you don't mind having a larger optic.

It's based on Haley Strategic's Rifle Dynamic AK...lol You can tell he either wears one glove or awkwardly avoids the gas tube with his thumb to not get burned.
Yeah, I don't spend as much time with a rifle as Travis does. (probably no one does). I'm pretty sure without thousands of hours of muscle memory into it you'd be losing a lot of skin!

Some nice developments there. Although that one ^^ on this page looks like a nightmare to run, if it was a real weapon. Hand burn city with all that exposed barrel and gas block steel.

Thanks. The 2 guys on the left obviously just starting to put it together. (and the guy on the far left had to borrow pants that don't fit him for some reason, haha – he calls it his "Home Guard kit")

Took me a while to find it.
Now that I see it was posted in 2015, I'm a little more cautious about it.

A variety of kits in progress

I mean, I wonder how many of these guys are really frontline fighters. Or maybe they just don't have time to care.

Practice makes perfect with the iron sights. There's a different "cheek weld" philosophy to the AK so it's more about positioning your head in an AK-space rather than trying to adapt western ideas backwards. As was already said, it's all about the front sight anyway (in any form of shooting, really).
I would not put an optic on it at all, for your intended purpose. If you do, get something issued at least. I have an RPG sight that I sometimes use on my "insurgent" rifle... it provides a mild magnification function and also looks the part... but usually I simply don't use that at all. Same thing with my modern Russian AK, actually. I have a magnified optic but usually just stick to the irons.
And yeah, you won't be able to fold the stock with anything on the side rail, but how often is that honestly a big deal? -
G&G's new promo video also is veeeeerrrry interesting, if it actually all works as advertised. (and if they offer it in a model that's at all appealing, not like the one in the CG video)

Yeah I don't think BB accuracy is a good judge of recoil, no matter how you slice it.
Anyway, yes, you can find pictures and videos of older 417s out there, and many of them do not have markings on the right side. -
Magpul PTS mags are extremely handy to disassemble, no? Pull out the springs, remove screws and vlean the 2 halves and spring with a q-tip dipped in a drop of solicone oil. And ylu're saying the 417nare even easier?
Aweshum!
Maybe I should have been more specific. Almost any mag is real easy to disassemble... it's the RE-assembly that's the issue. The TM mags are designed so that once you put the spring back in the channel, it stays put, even under pressure. This was not my experience with PTS mags, which just about drove me insane.
The recoil was pretty much non-existent. I genuinely don't see what all the rage about the recoil is about. A stock VFC 417 and WE M4 puts out significantly more (the look on people's faces when I let them shoot the GBB 417 compared with the TM417 says it all).
Well, the VFC 417 (I assume you mean their GBB, otherwise I would like some of your drugs) is essentially famous for strong kick, so I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. But it's certainly a lot more pronounced than any other EBB I've ever used, and up there with a few GBBs as well. To say it's non-existent... I dunno man, that doesn't sound right.
The trademarks are only on 1 side of the rifle as well which was disappointing.
Technically correct for earlier 417s. Not a mistake.

More in the spirit of the thread, a few other impressions on mine now that I've had it a few months and fielded it 3 or 4 times.
1. Yes, the stock accuracy is pretty good, but I too have the problem where at longer ranges (where I want to be!) players are sometimes not feeling hits. Also, in a shootout situation, enemy BBs are reaching me faster than I can reach them. The stock velocity shots are pretty easy to dodge.
2. The recoil is wonderful. I will probably convert mine to semi-auto only, but I will sure miss the feel this thing puts out doing a burst. As good or better than most GBBs I've fired! The sound also makes people's ears perk up (which not everyone wants from an airsoft gun but personally I'd like all my guns to be as loud as possible, all the time.)
3. I too had one of my mags stop feeding. Turned out to be dirt/a rock in there. However, these mags are the EASIEST ones I have ever encountered to disassemble and reassemble. I took apart a Magpul PTS mag once and almost gave up on life. These are a quick few minutes of work, problem solved, move on! (only thing is if you're not VERY slow and careful you will end up ruining the "fake bullets" sticker inside, oops). Also, the switch to lock these into 30-round mode is in there and easy enough to toggle without doing a complete disassembly.
4. Magazine capacity as mentioned is a bit low, but then again I got this gun because it fits my play style (which is to take not very many shots at all most of the time). I run with 5 mags and that's been fine, although occasionally slightly stressful.
5. The mod to normal deans wiring is easy enough, but I still don't care for that particular "feature" of these guns at all.
6. Information is pretty scarce about these things, I guess because these things are pretty scarce. So it's a little more wild west if you need to do some work.
On the whole, though, I'm a convert to the recoil shock platform. Damn shame there isn't a TM AS VAL out there... -
By lock rings do you mean the castle nut? Because I've definitely run into an issue where the sheer weight of the gun pulls laterally on the sling loop on the stock (security of the loop itself isn't an issue, btw) and causes the castle nut to loosen (and the stock to rotate by 10-20 degrees). This is very annoying, and super concerning at first. However, I first discovered the issue on day one of a 50-hour op (the first serious test I gave it and first time I really used a sling much) and had no choice but to live with it until the end of the op... and nothing worse ensued. It's not ideal by any stretch, but it didn't worsen beyond that or lead to the whole buffer tube waggling off or anything like that. Even with a correct 417 tool, however, I simply can't correct this defect. It will always get looser if used enough.

That's disappointing. I knew there must be tradeoffs but that doesn't sound worth even toying with.
