help required in spam bot stopping

now as a long standing member of arnies i am yet to see a high impact level of porn spamming of the forum by automated bots. if any occurs that is as i cant remember seeing anything like it even being on the forum for a minute let alone being shuffled off to oblivion.

 

i am a member on another forum which today alone had 8 porn bots sign up spamming theads and creating them and not just the clicy clicky link kind this was all up with embded video and images and thats a pretty average load.

 

now if its ok to ask what exactly is arnies doing so right to prevent this happening?

 

the admins on the forum in question refuse outright to put an alphanumeric codebox in claiming that they dont work (and that they reduce the ability for partialy sighted persons to join the foruim).

 

and anyone else who is good with forum stuff please help

The company I work for www.HuntedCow.com run several MMORPGs and forums to go with them, our system means that when you register for the game, an account is automatically created for you in the forum using the same username and password, this means that bots realy can't get in (unless manually aided).

 

I'd wonder if it was feasible for there to be registration for access to the main Arnies Airsoft Site, which then creates you an account here using the same username and password, it should be a seperate enough process that the bots simply can't fathom it.

 

That being said there is nothing to beat a good team of moderators for getting dodgy posts that the system misses out of the way and I should know, I moderated three of their forums before they finally got fed up and employed me

Alphanumeric and 'e-mail based' validation processes generally help quite a bit. I'm a bit perplexed by the visual impairment comment - generally most software used on forums has a link for members with visual impairment to contact admin / webmasters to seek validation in another way.

 

We do get quite a lot of spam here, I'm afraid to say. Generally the hardworking and underappreciated team that police the forum do a good job of stomping on such spam. That said, we couldn't do it without the forum members who report such stuff as soon as it appears.
