  1. Your statement that it sounds like a bad idea leads me to believe you've never actually tried it. I have, and on a stock or upgraded SAW, a high-voltage, high-capacity LiPoly pack provides a high ROF and a long run time in a small package. A 7.4v or 11.1v LiPoly pack fits perfectly in the foregrip of my CA PARA and will run all day with a flat discharge curve (and I have to add the CA 249 is light years better in durability, ease of upgrading, & overall quality to a STAR M249 - yep, I said it : ). I keep hearing that and used to believe it, but a lot of guys at my RC ca
  2. A Li-Poly 2 cell pack has a rated voltage output of 7.4 volts but in reality is 8.5 volts +/- 1 volt. I have yet to see one with less than 8.3, which is perfect for stock or lightly upgraded replicas. Anyone who races 10th scale touring cars competitively will tell you Li-Poly is much more versatile than NiMH or NiCad. LiPoly packs use 3.7 volt cells which are somewhat limiting in their granularity of output, but they have capacities in excess of 6000mah. They're also relatively inexpensive in lower capacities, with a 3000mah pack being had for $50 USD or less. Assembled LiPoly pac
  3. I use an 11.1 v Li-Poly pack in all my SAWs and so far no problems. Been doing it for a while now.
  4. The TOP MKII stock attachment point is similar in design to the CA. btw......I own both.
  5. I had a TM M4A1 that had a PDI-190 in it with stock bushings. The plastic bushings held up well for the year I owned the gun. With a 190 in it, the gun shoots 40fps less than the amount you mentioned. A with a 9.6v 3300mah pack, the ROF is still high.
  6. I've put close to 15k rounds thru my Para and it's still running like a champ. I've got a PDI-190 in mine since it's running a little low in FPS.
  7. I used my STAR Para this weekend and it rocked. The little bastage really spits the BBs out. And my favorite aspect of the gun? It's LIGHT....I can carry it all day without getting tired. I saw an interesting mode of failure in a new, out-of-the-box-5-minutes-ago CA249 MKII. The gun was new and unused and when shot for the first time it fired BB's for about 5 seconds and then began emitting wisps of white smoke. The owner stopped firing when he saw the smoke. Once the smoke stopped, we attempted to fire the gun again and the gearbox cycled and sounded normal but BB's weren't being shot ou
  8. Read my post. Then re-read it again and again until you understand it. If you still don't get it, take a reading class. I didn't say the M249 was their first release. I did say that for a company that recently started manufacturing AEG's, they're doing it right. Regarding the UMG, they made an effort to rectify the problem with the gun by offering a new Tappet Plate to remedy the problem with the gun misfeeding. CA never released JACK to fix any of the numerous problems with their version 1 & 2 MP5's.h The point was valid. Your intelligence (or lack of) was the cau
  9. You must have a short memory. Weren't you the one posting on ASP about the poor quality of CA249 bearings and their propensity for failure? Seriously though, comparing the CA & STAR is like comparing apples to oranges. They both fill a similar niche albeit in a different way. I own both and like them equally well though I use one or the other depending on my needs. CA products have come a long way in the last few years. STAR, they've done well right from the start.
  10. Hi Walter, Thanks for the quick response. On a positive note, AirsoftGI has excellent customer service. Some of the best. As soon as I get the replacement sight I'll slap that puppy on my SAW. The short answer to some of the previous questions: What was the gearbox like to work on? Piece of cake How tough was it to change springs? 30 seconds, blindfolded Can you replace the piston with standard parts or is it unique? Takes a narrower piston. A Deepfire won't fit What mods do you think will work on this gun (ie. tightbore, gear change, higher torque motor etc.)? All the abo
  11. PDI 170. I don't use irregular pitch springs in any of my guns.
  12. I rationalize the cost of the gun by comparing it to other M249 models that are on the market. 1. It's reliable (so far). 2. A box mag is included (great design BTW). 3. It's extremely easy to upgrade. 4. It's light and easy to carry. I figure the gun itself cost me $475 which is quite reasonable and the box mag is worth another $115. This amount is what it cost shipped to my door.
  13. I used my Para this weekend and in the process uncovered a few issues. First, the front sight is fragile. Mine was broken while being transported in the case and it appears it broke quite easily. Second, the box mag connector has to be seated just right otherwise the gun won't get power. You can have it plugged in where it appears to be inserted all the way but it's not. The end result is the gun won't fire. Third, the bipod legs have the annoying habit of popping ot of place at the worst possible moment. The gun fires fine though. A simple upgrade brought the perfor
