  1. Put a stainless steel outer barrel on my Five seveN in December. I just took it apart and there is no deformation of the barrel or the chamber after over 1000 shots. I've been going back and fourth using Duster and Green Gas. So far so good.

It's possible that the rubber seal they have you insert at the end of the barrel thats in the firing chamber acts like a cushion and keeps those two parts very tight. I know that I cannot twist or move the new outer barrel in any way since I installed it. I guess only more shots can tell.

  2. Just got my Desert Warrior yesterday. Just had enough time to put 4 mags worth the shots through it. Handled the .25's just fine with green gas and then I tried .20's with Duster and was please to see that it did quite well with that (as good as it worked in my Five Sevens).

I put my MEU slide on the tan frame and it looks super. Maybe they will do what they have done with the Five Seven and make green and black slides and frames so that we can mix them up and make vaious two tones.

I like the trigger better than what I've got on my MEU, not the looks but the pull weight. The Desert Warrior seems to me a bit heavier (I've always felt the MEU, 1911A1 and the Detonics are a bit too light).

The MEU sights are better as they are a bit higher profile and quicker to aquire, but the Desert Warriors are pretty good. I especially like the white dot in the front sight.

The plastic frame and slide are finished very well and are a nice dark matt tan. Darker than most of the pictures I've seen posted. Materials are excellent and I like the fact that the color is all the way thru the plastic and not a painted on feature. I don't think I'll bother with a metal kit on this one any time soon.

Only problem now is my son in college came home for a visit and wants one and I've made the deal that with "very good grades (hey, I'm paying the tuition) come some rewards". He's starting to drool (he's a hockey player, throws javelin and runs cross country so it's a natural thing lol), so we shall see just how bad he wants it. I'll just keep waiving it in his face and sending pictures to his e-mail (I am sooo evil).

All in all a good pistol. Will try to get some outdoor shooting on my range later this weekend.

  3. Just got my barrels today and just finished installing the new outer barrel onto one of my Five Sevens. Looks nice (the same) and maybe it added a ounce (who cares). Anyway, I think the reason for the deforming of the mounting holes in the outer barrel is that there is just the slightest space between the end of the barrel and where it mounts into the firing chamber. When the slide slams back, the lack of support at the end of the outer barrel can cause it move, ever slightly, back (remember this is just soft aluminium) and after repeated slamming, the hole starts to elongate til it snaps. Now I use 134a and Duster most of the time, so the bashing isnt that hard. However, if I used Green Gas more often, it might be what makes the difference and speed up the process.

They were very cleaver in how they resolved this with the stainless barrel. The new barrel comes with the O ring already attached as it is on the front of the original barrel. However, you take the O ring from the original barrel and put it on the inner brass barrel and slide it back towards the back end of the barrel (towards the hop-up). You then slide the new barrel onto the inner barrel and the old O ring now becomes a buffer that takes up that tiny bit of space between the barrel and firing chamber and holds the two pieces solid. Zero chance of movement and with the stainless steel being harder, your less likely to get the problem of the holes deforming. Seems pretty logical.

When I was checking the E hobby site, I saw that they apparently have the barrels in black steel as well.

  4. Just out of interest, why the stainless outers?

Are they any better than the stock ally one?

    Greg.

There has been some reports of the standard outer barrel having problems with stability holes that match up to the pins that hold it in the firing chamber which is steel/pot metal. In a few cases, the holes in softer aluminium that surrounds the pins gets banged out of shape by the force of the slide slaming back against the firing chamber and if it gets too pronounced, they crack and the outter barrel can just slide out of the pistol.

  5. Just got mine and a couple of spare magazines. Was worth the wait for a good one. Accuracy was quite good with .25's and I'm going to leave it that way.

Usual TM build quality-very very good. Sights were dead on. Nice trigger-no creap and not as light as on my TM MEU. Magazine has a large gas resevoir and is good on the gas usage. Blow-back is OK, but as I shoot real steel, none of these pistols ever come close anyway.

Nice looking pistol. It's different looking and not all about as yet. My M3 light makes it look pretty cool. Controls are reachable without any problem (my 12 year old can manage pretty well and I have large hands and no problems with a Desert Eagle, so the Five Sevens not going to be a problem).

New CQB arena opening in my area (Worcester, MA) and a big one at that. The Five Sevens going to get a work out pretty soon.

  6. Just got mine yesterday and while I'm really happy with the performance (it's almost as good as my TM 93R and I can use all my G18c magazines just fine), the pistol is way beyond 1 to 1 scale and is nearly as wide as my CM.121 Desert Eagle. Think of it as a P226 on steroids and chambering a .50 cal round.

The rail IS too wide and your basic M3 light will not fit. However, just a little sanding on the edge will resolve that quickly enough.

The red tip or black tip (aparently found everywhere else but the USA) should NOT be removed as we all have done with out G18c's. The reason is that the inner brass barrel also extends from the end of the slide by about 1/10th of a inch. Removing all of the tip, will leave some of the inner barrel un-protected. I would sugguest trimming the length of the tip. But don't go too far.

I also think the power is a bit better than my CM.030's, as you mentioned. Still a little slow, but then again TM's new GBB Five Seven is only shooting 240-250 with 134A. Not too much of a difference there.

Your statment on the sights are dead on. However, I noticed the rear sight can be removed from the slide by taking the two screws holding it in from inside of the slide. I might do this and try deepening the notch a bit with a file (the width of the notch is fine) and then add some white dots on bothe the rear and front sigts. Still, for as bad as they are, mine were right on and as I've had to deal with the old 1911A1 sights., i'm not going to get too cranky about this-for now.

Still, I really like the pistol and will probably have some fun "dressing it up" a bit.

Will purists looking for a true Sig P226 like it? Nope. Will AEP "shooters" like it? Yup, in fact I'll be getting another as soon as my retailer can get some more in.

  7. I've started one in part of my cellar and I'm telling you guys right now that your giving me a lot of really good idea's on how to detail it.

My wife thought I was "over equiped" with gear. I cant hold a candle to some of you and I'm going to use this to my advantage. Like: See, honey. He's done that and look at all the stuff he's got. Kind of looks like I'm falling behind and I know you dont want me to fall behind. (At this point, I just know she'll be looking down at me with tears in her eyes. Looking down as I'll be on my knees trying to get away with this) lol

    Wish me luck

  8. Man, I wish we could get a show like that over here. IS ANYONE LISTENING?!

My retailer is going to be setting up a booth at a "real steel" show this spring as there were a lot of people there looking for airsoft at last years show.

Still it would be nice just to have a big show dealing with just guns 'n gear for airsoft and have it well advertised. Of course I want it on the East Coast as well as West Coast.

  9. Just got mine and I'm really happy with the purchase.

Quality is right up there and performance lies between my GBB's and Springer Pistols. Should be perfect for out New England semi-arctic weather. Certainly a lot of shots out of a batter charge. Now its time for about a half dozen more magazines. Should work pretty well in the CQB area.

Nice weight as well as build materials. When I put it next to my KSC G19C it's hard to tell the difference, looks wise (even with the lack of trades).

  10. I'm all for the blue. You know what would also look good, but I'm not sure you can get it, would be a slide in the same shade of blue.

It would make for a neat looking race gun. especially with the gold barrel.

Very nice gun as it is though. I'm envious. Hope you enjoy it.

  11. The 1911 even in Airsoft is one of the most customizable guns ever created. Just look at the pictures of what has been posted in this topic. Absolutely incredible! There is not a single modern pistol out there that can be modified to such a degree as to fit any shooter-none! Look at the up-grades available for airsoft. It speaks for itself.

I'm willing to bet that the only airsoft gun out there with as many up-grades available is the M16/M4 rifle.

I gotta tell you, there have been some real nice pictures posted here and I'm jealous as hell! Good work you lucky ............

  12. You guys have some really nice gear. The M16/M4 variants are just incredible. It has got to be the most adaptable gun out there.

I've even seen springer variants that make some AEG's look tame. So it just goes to show you can have some fun and still keep the costs down.

I'd really like to see a area set up to post pictures for each of the types of air soft guns: Springer, GBB-NBB and then AEG. I think a lot of forum members would get a lot out of it.

Just a picture and a little blurb of what it is and what you did. Comments could be posted elsewhere.

Nice work guys! Keep it comming.
