    Always could go for some A&E (or equivalent quality) #69 bonded nylon thread. They usually come in 1-2 lbs cones, but I've seen them in other formats as well. Note that it might gum up your machine if it is a home machine and not an industrial/metal gear machine. It's what I've used, and it works very nicely.
