  1. I discovered last night that KWA USA has a dedicated forum for the LM4. Lots of good information on that site: http://kwausa.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8576 So far for drop in, no mods necessary compatibility: MilSpec Stocks MilSpec handguards/rails MilSpec Pistol Grips MilSpec charging handle latches (just the latch, not the charging handle) MilSpec gas blocks/front sight MilSpec BUIS
  2. I posted this in another thread: Leftover from my real ARs, I had some spare parts from my RS KAC selectors, so I modified the KWA safety and installed the KAC scalloped right side selector onto it. Not *quite* as flush to the receiver as I wanted, but it works great. To do this, you have to remove the selector, cut a channel which the back face of the right selector plate will key into, then drill and tap a hole for the screw to lock into. Sounds easy. Cutting the channel was in fact easy. Drilling and taping the hole perfectly straight into the selector proved a challenge give
  3. I couldn't sleep and decided to be productive instead. So, going through the to-do list for my LM4, two agenda items were addressed this evening: I had some spare parts from my RS KAC selectors, so I modified the KWA safety and installed the KAC scalloped right side selector onto it. Not *quite* as flush to the receiver as I wanted, but it works great. Next was the charging handle. Installed a BCM gunfighter latch onto the KWA charging handle. Works great. Minimal modification done to the latch. Left to do: • Modify and install a Magpul ASAP plate. • Modify and install
  4. Very cool. Curious to hear how it'll go with the TM slide.
  5. I recommend either the DYTac or Crusader (VFC) barrels. All these barrels are designed to accept regular sized gas blocks and front sight posts.
  6. Cool idea about uncoiling 3-4 coils of the buffer tube spring just enough to widen it minutely. I'd be worried about binding though. You've seen no problems so far in semi, auto and mag dumps?
  7. Somehow I missed this the first time around. This is a great looking piece. Did you do the modifications yourself? I'm especially curious about the installation of the Docter Sight.
  8. You mean for the KWA or for AEGs? Cuz a few companies make midlength 14.5" barrels for regular AEGs.
  9. That's bizarre. Well, I don't know about the KSC GBBRs, but all the KWA GBBRs, including the non-ATF approved international versions have milspec buffer tubes and RS spec upper receiver threading.
  10. Hunk. I actually really like the MOE handguards. If KWA or someone else came out with a mid length 14.5" barrel or a 16" dissipate barrel, I would totally get a mid length or rifle length MOE handguard (respectively). For the way I shoot my real ARs I just prefer more length to grip the front end. I'm just not crazy about carbine length hand guards. Slayer: the VTAC is my preference, but the regular Troy rail serves the exact same purpose in the exact same way. There's really no benefit (in my mind) for one over the other. I just like the look of the VTAC a little better. I've been huntin
  11. Updated my KWA LM4 PTR last night: I am absolutely loving this new 12" rail by Midwest Industries. It's even narrower than the VTAC rail. Awaiting some more goodies for the gun. But this is definitely an upgrade.
  12. Unfortunately, with the MB VTAC rails (and I'm guessing same goes for the regular TRX rails), the entire length of the upper rail's inner cavity where the gas tube would normally reside ... isn't milled out like on a real one. On my MB Noveske rails, it's only the rear most section of the rail, and even then, it's only blocked by a pin. On the VTAC rails, you'd have to mill out the entire length of rail : FAIL. The MB Daniel Defense FDE is really off compared to the real rail, but as you said, in many cases, there are no alternatives for some of these replica rails. Here's what a real MK18
  13. So not only is the upper rail out of spec, but I discovered that the "airsoft" design prevents the installation of a gas tube. Wow. Beyond annoying. Looking for a VTAC 13" rail now. Madbull or RS. Preferably RS.
  14. Be careful using aluminum black. I used some on one of my KWA 1911 sample guns and since it would never quite get dark enough for me I kept going with it and eventually the entire area rusted/eroded severely. If that happens to you, lightly sand the entire area affected, mask it off and just spray it with some flat black paint to seal it in.
  15. It'll be fine. Many guns with metal bodies and longer receiver extensions lack a bottom groove for stock wiring. Just cut it down to an approximately the correct length and test the fitting. If you tighten the screw down and the buffer tube still slides back and forth freely, it can be one of two (or both) things: you haven't cut the extension down enough, and/or the mounting screw is too long. After cutting down the receiver extension to what should be the appropriate length, the next thing I do is measure the distance from the back face of the receiver to where the screw head should stop
  16. That's a pretty easy fix regarding the lower receiver extension. Get yourself an AEG buffer tube sized for stock tube lipos. G&P, KA, Madbull all make one. Measure the depth that the inner mounting would sit and add to that the thickness of the receiver end plate/ sling plate. That length is approximately the length that your lower receiver's buffer tube extension should be. Using a dremel or hack saw, cut the buffer tube extension just a few millimeters (3-4mm) short of that measurement. You may or may not have to file the bottom of the receiver extension to accommodate the wires, but it'
  17. Curious about these comments regarding the T-1 lacking co-witness ... you guys know you can get different mounts that place the T-1 at different heights right? There are mounts out there that will place the optic directly at the pic rail, at H&K cowitness, absolute cowitness, and lower 1/3 cowitness.
  18. You know... That's a good question. It crossed my mind but I forgot to check. I'll test it tonight by sliding on an AFG. If anyone asks why it's on there, rather than telling them I can't get it to slide off I'm just gonna tell them I'm going super mega dynamic. Hicks, the brake is by DYTac. Not sure who still sells them. I think some other manufacturers have been making them too. Check out your preferred overseas retailers' flashhiders categories ... you'll probably find one there by DYTac or other.
  19. CKinnerley nailed it. The rail is a Samson Manufacturing Evolution Series 9-EX". It's designed to be a mid-length system. The Gas Piston system is a replica of the Adams Arms Piston System. The replica is made by King Arms. I'm not sure of any other manufacturer making these specific gas blocks. I can't find a pic of him with his RS gun right now. But here is the same gun at a game we were at a couple months back. He put all his RS parts on the gun including his PEQ and set the gun up same as his RS counterpart: Unrelated, last night I installed some parts on my demo KWA LM4 PTR.
  20. A major attractor for us with this gun was the fact that aside from what has so far been good reliability of the platform, KWA has really good customer service. No other manufacturer of GBBRs have any significant support in this regard. As for the comments regarding KWA's trademarks, you can just as easily paint over them. I did that with my early version ATPs. Masked off the area on the slide and a few quick coats of Krylon black later ... the trademarks were nice and subtle. I haven't bothered to do that with the LM4 PTRs yet. I'm fine with them as is.
  21. Our demo guns are still going strong. We've put a decent amount of rounds through them so far. My buddy said he's put around 5,000 rounds through his as of this past weekend. No failures, no issues. I wish my WA and G&P GBBRs were this good out of the box.
