  1. All I keep seeing is lovely looking 1911s with metal kits and expensive parts.

So here is some workhorses for you, some used and abused 1911s, my Colt M1911A1 and my attempt at a Commercial 1911:

Now to go and batter them around a bit some more.

  2. Anyone seen Colts new M45A1? Looks like the TM/WE desert warrior 5.1!

I just saw a video on YT and thought.. That's the Desert warrior!

    Hmnnn

That is because it is meant to be a competitor to the other tan colour 1911 designs so they could beat out the competition :P.

It does look a bit ugly to my mind but then I was never a 'fan of tan' on 1911s. To be honest they could just save themselves some cash, bring all the old 1911s out of stores, touch them up a bit and then get them firing ;).

  3. Same, I thought you had cut the rail front away and the light was just put next to it :P.

But damn it do I want a P226 E2. Can't wait til I can move and get a defence that shops will accept (because sites / players vouching for you and pictures that stretch the last 3 years are nothing compared to a soding piece of signed paper from a site <_<).

  4. Damn it, I so want a ring hammer and ducktail type safety on my Series 70 but damn those Nova parts are expensive.

Nice work Squad. Now if only TM or someone would do a decent and not WA new price Officers.

  5. This is what I am after:

That to me just looks like a TRP but with the FBI choosing it (can't remember the exact model name for the FBI one assuming it is not just TRP too). Could very easily be made as it features many of the bits that the TM MEU does, then add in a chrome / bare steel outer barrel, bushing, extended mag well and some new grips. If you want the logos and the rest then a full metal kit would be in order. It is quite an easy one to make and I am sure the parts wont be too hard to find, depends how close you want to get it and if you want it to run plastic slide for winter or metal and have it become sluggish in the cold months (as sadly it will).

  6. Possibly ask Mike at ESC, he might have a few parts lying around. If I need 1911 spares I usually go to him.

Would help if you said what you are planning to build etc or like me do you just like to wing it and see what parts you can add.

  7. Well to me the only thing 'wrong' is the full guide rod. Classy 1911s don't need one of those silly things :P.

But all in all it seems that it is really the only thing that needs changing to look that way. Mine has a pair of Night Warrior grips and a MSH from it as the 'all Nickel' look to me just felt a tad off. Might add a black outer barrel but that is all I feel like changing on it.

  8. Well, I guess somebody's gotta post something some time that isn't a sweet NOVA kit fitted with all the top quality parts one could ever wish for.

Purists, look away now.  Or scroll down very rapidly or something.

    Don't say I didn't warn you.

Actually it doesn't look too bad. Given that the Nickel finishes on many guns are for showing off and little else this would make a great 'modern pimp' pistol that is more for intimidation than firing. :P

Also miles better than putting silly tan grips on one, now that defeats the purpose of the finish and the grip in one go.

  9. Tokyo Marui Series 70 Nickel Finish:

Well with me claiming this as one of, if not, TMs best pistols I shall give you a short review and pictures to show why. Don’t expect much of this review as I am writing this during my busy work schedule. I mean come on Doom won’t play itself.

    Unboxing:

Looks sexy and shiny right? Well there you have it, the box it comes in. It does have a rather ‘Pokemon shiny card’ look and  feel to it with a good idea of what is inside (if you think it contains a snow cone machine you are an idiot):

    kfka.jpg

And after that we have the contents, yes I know a magazine is included and the grips are from a Night Warrior but one is sold and the other to my eyes looks better so there. And yes that is a soft felt that the gun rests upon:

    lb5a.jpg

It is a truly amazing sight when you open it; the light glinting off it is enough to make you start dreaming of buying a purple leopard print jacket with fur lining and a white and gold low riding muscle car.

    Feel and all that Jazz:

It looks and feels amazing. The finish feels sleek to the touch and it has a mirror finish that means you can check out how much of an ugly sod you are with each pull of the trigger:

    inhf.jpg

Drawing it alone is enough to dazzle and the finish extends to all external parts of the main body with the controls being a near as possible match but a bit less sparkly and mirror like:

    gtq4.jpg

    Shooting:

Like any other TM, snappy. To be honest if you haven’t shot a TM 1911 go and do it, the feeling of it clacking away in your hands is lovely. Haven’t a chrono or anything to test but expect typical GBB performance. The shots easily penetrate to the same depth as my other full size 1911s:

    fh4d.jpg

    Internals:

Well they look good with the trigger grouping in bare metal and the BBU and nozzle in typical dark grey. Both fit as expected and feel nice. Nothing is really out of place and it sports a typical TM hop unit so nothing different at all.

    Frame:

    2lnh.jpg

    Slide:

    7qx6.jpg

Oh look it has a Hop Unit, what a surprise:

    dja9.jpg

    Anything else:

Not really, it is a nice pistol, one that begs to be kept in a case but then if you did that you couldn’t pose with it thinking you are on the set of Miami Vice, not like I do at all. Either way if you don’t have one get one, if you don’t like 1911s well then don’t get one but don’t come crying to me that TM don’t do this finish on other pistols.

This pistol was bought from Mike at Elite Shooting Centre for the handsome sum of £165 + £10p&p. The first one, true to Royal Mail form didn’t show up but the replacement was sent the next day and I had no issues with getting that one. Just thought this deserved mentioning as Mike was a legend about resolving this.

    Finally some more gun porn:

  10. @Fireknife, you need to switch over the hammers/triggers/mag catch/pins/msh/grip safety, you'll feel better for it........probably :P

Nah, keeping the Series 70 Nickel mostly in Nickel as I prefer it to the two-tone look oddly. They just feel better as nearly one solid colour but I will change over some controls.

  11. Good to hear all is well then Squad.

    Hmm that does look good/

    Thank you :P.

Why on Earth would you sell your only matching mag and not one of your black ones if you have so many? The black lip of a standard mag would really bug me.

    Because:

    1. I was not keen on it and plan for two-toning as Squad points out.

    2. I have many more black or blued guns than nickel / chrome ones so wasn't going to sell them all off and get new ones.

    3. Does anywhere even do spare Nickel mags UK side?

Either way I am sure someone else could put it to more use than me so off it went :P.

And in the words of Sonic from Sonic Adventure, 'good enough':
