  1. So, what can I do?

    Midma

    Exactly what you are doing.

Contact the retailer you purchased it from.

There is no doubt though that externally many of the WE M4s that have been purchased are in far from perfect condition.

Perhaps on some occasions this is to do with retailers but the same cosmetic faults can be seen on many of these rifles that have been purchased by people from all corners of the Globe.

So to say "this has NOTHING to do with anything in the factory" is kinda hard to believe, of course on this occasion with Midma's rifle this may be true (it may the responsibility of the retailer) but it is quite a blanket statement if you are referring to production as a whole.

Not trying to get at anyone, I'm just saying ;)

  2. Great review Chris! I will order this when I get my WE M4. Can you also provide a pic with it in the gun so we can see the colour matching?

    Cheers!

    Thanks guys :D

    @Tengar

It was my intention to include a picture of the handle installed, sorry about that.

    @4boost/rottenotto

I received your PM 4boost. I understand now how I should upload it to site but I'm not great with computers! I'll give it a go though.

    I've Pmd you otto.

  3. Those of us lucky enough to own the WE M4 will know that it is a fantastic rifle but as with most things in life it isn't without its problems.
One of the most commonly reported failures is to do with the weak material used in the stock charging handle and the tendency for the handle to snap.
This was a problem which I was quite concerned with which led me to be extra cautious when operating this part and I felt this detracted slightly from my enjoyment when using the rifle.
Therefore I was delighted when I stumbled across Horizon Tactical and their modified 'real steel' charging handle. To be perfectly honest I had never heard of Horizon previously so I was slightly wary in ordering from them so I contacted them via email with some initial enquires regarding the handle. The reply I received was extremely polite, friendly and helpful and immediately put my mind at ease. Combine this with Horizon's lifetime warranty on this charging handle I felt very happy to go ahead with the order.
I placed my order for the charging handle along with some other upgrade parts and received the goods within a week. Altogether great customer service.
As you would imagine I was immediately able to tell that this 'real steel' charging handle was far superior to the WE version. It looks great, feels sturdier and is slightly heavier than the stock part so I was initially very impressed.

As you can see the latch on the RS handle is much nicer than on the WE. It has a serrated edge for extra grip and is spring loaded plus it's actually longer than the stock latch. For me this was a great improvement as the stock latch was a bit too short for my index finger with the RS version it is long enough to wrap around my index finger therefore vastly improving grip.

Horizon have slightly modified their charging handle in order for it to operate correctly with the WE and the method used is the same as seen in the WE M4 Wiki Guide.
The modification has been done well and is very sturdy so I can't see any problems with it at all.

As expected the RS handle slotted straight into place and was direct replacement for the stock part but I did need to move it back and forward a few times until the action was completely smooth but this wasn't a problem.
With the charging handle installed I was extremely pleased. The wider latch was a vast improvement for me and it snapped into position with a very satisfying 'clunk'

So far I have gathered up many hours of use with Horizon's charging handle without a single problem or malfunction. Immediately I have much more confidence in the part and the rifle as a whole. I can now put that particular weak point of the WE M4 to the back of my mind when using the rifle and I can concentrate on the overall shooting experience which lets face it, is a lot of fun!

From start to finish my experience with Horizon Tactical has been a pleasure and I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. They have started to expand their stock recently and apparently will continue to do so in the future. It is also worth noting that they offering free shipping within the US and for non US addresses shipping is free for orders over $100. From now on they are my preferred retailer when it comes to all things WE M4 related, I would suggest that you check them out too!

  4. haha

i hope yours at least wasn't carelessly put down on a rough surface.

Mine came out of the box looking like this, so it most surprised me.

i was just relieved that at least the deflector on the receiver wasn't scratched as well.

Well I was a bit disappointed with the initial condition of mine.

Lots of wee marks and scratches all over the receiver, all stuff that would probably happen anyway but a bit annoying.

Plus the forward assist was missing and on closer inspection I discovered the forward assist spring was missing too!

The guy in factory who was responsible for that part was slacking that day :sleep_1:

    EDIT.

On another note I have decided to attempt the inner barrel change for the first time today.

Is it just me or is really tough to get the short barrel back into place?

  5. WARNING!! Guys, I just recieved the Knight's style trigger guard....and it broke my lower reciever. I don't know whether I'm just dumb or what, but I've replaced the trigger guards numerous times on various AEGs and even real steel..but either the trigger guard was off or just bad luck.

As I was pushing the pin through, it went through the first hole just fine..techinicaly the guard should have been alligned since the front end was already hinged in. I'm guessing the quality of the hole on the trigger guard was off, causing the roll pin to come out the other end at a slight off angle, missing the exit hole of the lower's other side. I tapped it down, but felt it tighten. I kept pushing and "ping!"..the other side of my lower broke off.

I put the stock trigger guard back in (fit just fine) and used metal epoxy to glue the broken part back onto the lower.

Totally bummed. Anyone have succuess with that aftermarket trigger guard?

    Bloody hell mate!

You're not having much luck at the moment

  6. @accuracy

I have a some weird marks on mine too. Not as bad as yours but disappointing nonetheless!

Not ideal but Horizon Tactical will be stocking replacement receivers soon apparently.

In regards to TS One, I fear they may have damaged their reputation beyond repair, you really have to ask if they ever tested or inspected any of the products they have released.

What happened to them posting directly here plus they were supposed to show us a video to prove that their buffer tube was effective <_<

^maybe that's why my gun had a couple scratches on it before I even used it.

I was just thinking exactly the same thing!

When I first received mine it had quite a few scratches and marks plus paint loss on some of the furniture <_<

I wasn't really that bothered but the condition of the receiver was pretty poor in comparison to all my AEGs when first purchased.

So was this the same with everyones WE M4 then?

  8. So were you trying to turn in the correct way then w0lfy? :D

Thanks to Chris and Carsten by the way. I got the pin out (it was a *badgeress*!) I just need to buy a replacement spring now so I've not put it all the way in again as I will only have to get the bloody thing out again :P

  9. That's brilliant. Thank you guys.

One more question please :D If you don't have any 1500 grit sandpaper to smooth down the brass cylinder opening is it still worth using Loctite to secure part 36 in the meantime? (It'll be next week before we can get some 1500 grit)

  10. Well I finally had a look at my buddy's rifle with the missing forward assist button and I've stripped the rifle and the spring from the forward assist assembly is also missing!

I managed to buy a complete forward assist assembly replacement for him but at the time I didn't realise the spring wasn't there either! Another part to buy

Anywho, can anyone tell me how to remove the forward assist from the rifle? I can't get it out, I presume the small pin in the upper receiver around that area has something to do with it but I've tried punching it out and it isn't budging. I don't want to force it if it isn't the correct bit.

    Thanks guys.

  11. Mmm...I think I kinda I like it!

It's certainly different and the 'battle wear' on the buttstock and receiver looks amazing. In that respect it's probably the most realistic airsoft AK I have ever had the pleasure to view!

Perhaps it would be better without the rail? I dunno, I'm no AK expert (I do like AKs with modern optics though)

After watching an episode of The Unit I've always wanted an AK like that (minus the rail and EOTech) but with a KAC QD Silencer. I know it's not for the purists but I quite like the mix of old and new.
