  1. I am replacing with APS orings. Now I have some of these out of shells I'll send them to the guys I buy orings from and see if they can match them in bulk.

I'm dallying with drilling out the caps until I have a new vice for my pillar drill.

Entertained myself today by Devil modding all my co2 GHK mags also.

  2. I did a little bit of experimenting today. One of my shells was experiencing a lot of friction between the valve stem and the channel it rides in, which was making it hard to trigger. Following the advice of a user on the Airsoft Canada forums, I drilled out the channel with a 1/4" drill bit:

This immediately produced a number of improvements:

-The friction in the channel is gone and the valve slides smoothly.

-The charger knob (the part you screw to lock in the shell) doesn't stick to the shell, which makes it easier to charge the shells.

-The shell expels less gas when it 'sets' itself while unscrewing the charger knob. Where before it was a bang, now it's just a quick hiss. This means more gas in the shell, and less wasted.

-The shells extract more smoothly from the gun, since the channel doesn't 'stick' on the firing pin as much.

-According to the user on Airsoft Canada, the key improvement here is that it reduces wear and tear on the firing pin, which in the long run prevents part breakage.

There is one downside, which is that now the reduced friction and wider channel make it easier to accidentally trigger the valve, but with the shells packed as per my tutorial above it's not an issue since the collective mass of the payload resists the valve moving.

So, I went and applied this mod to my other 34 shells, and they all seem to be working great. It doesn't take a lot of work- unscrew the shell base, remove the O-ring, drill it out with a 1/4" bit, remove all shavings with a toothbrush, reinsert O-ring, reinstall base. Simple.

Also, if anyone is still using 12g CO2 cartridges to fill the shells, stop. They're really, truly awful for this application and seem to only deliver gaseous CO2 instead of liquid thanks to their minuscule volume. Unscrew the 12g adapter, screw in your choice of full-sized CO2 tank, marvel in the increased power and reduced cost of operation. The shells consume a lot of CO2 when filled with liquid (I got about 100 fills out of a 12oz tank before it started filling gaseous CO2), but the power difference is absolutely worth it, and if you live near a store that will refill your tank it's pretty economical.

Does the wider opening affect the priming position as per your guide with presetting the valve with a bb? Does the wider channel allow the vale to move further forward than one un-widened?

Just for reference, The upper nozzle is a 1j

The lower nozzle with the obviously smaller valve is the stock.

There is a sight difference in the stiffness of the valve springs which means the 1j shuts off much faster.

  4. I'll try and take some comparison pics of the 1j and stock nozzles tomorrow.
so I'm adding something to the thread, here is the oring sizes that Nugentgl put up on gasguns.

    GHK Magazines:
    Green Gas Valve = 1mm x 8mm; 1.1mm x 5.6mm; 1.5mm x 4.5mm (grey oring); 1.78mm x 2.57mm
    C02 Valve = 1mm x 8mm; 1.1mm x 5.6mm
    Magazine Tube Cap = 1.78mm x 14mm
    GHK M4:
    Nozzle = 3mm x 12mm (black oring)

  5. As my local site is CQB and I almost entirely field a bolt action I decided to sink for a good GBB M4. As I had a small excess of free cash for the first time in a long time I felt that I could justify the GHK. I went for the 10.5 purely for convenience but I have since bought a 16.5 rail and barrel with plans to build a second upper receiver for woodland/non basr friendly milsims.
Rather than bog about with green gas mags I bought 3 co2 mags with the rifle and will pick up another three in a couple of months.

    ghkm4

1j nozzle fitted it averages 312 with .25g although if the rifle has sat unused for a day or so the first 4-5 rounds come out much faster GG and co2 mags but once the rocket valve is moving again it  settles back on both types of mag regardless of fresh bulb. At 30 meters with the hop turned all the way off 0.25gs shoot dead flat, I suspect when not in a CQB environ I'll move to .36g or .4g for better range.
I am in the process of converting the stock nozzle to include a grub screw so I can fine tune the FPS should my 1j nozzle fail.

A little bit of polishing to the underside of the BCG and some super secret slip lube has taken away much of the grittiness of the action. The noisiest component is now the buffer spring which I installed the stiff spring Samoon kindly sent me along with a space hop chamber, bolt stop and hop rubber.

I have a full compliment of KJW-M9 fill valves with which I intend to implement the devilhunter mod so I can refill my mags from a 20zo paintball tank which would mean less chasing sparklets round my case or faffing with changes in the field.

OOTB I have nothing but praise for this gun. Time will tell of course as with all GBB rifles and being in the UK the big test

  6. Tmc highlander from EBairsoft. Trousers, shirt, ballcap and boonie came in at a pleasing £82 posted and in my hands in 10 days.

boom, usual Tmc quality in fact better than the last pair of cryalikes I got from them.

These are no vertex sure but with a couple of tweaks like need to move the kneepad pockets down a couple of inches due to really long thighs and using my gen1 hard kneepads that I prefere. I think this was one of those great buys where a whim pays off.

If the lightness is too much then I have a pack of dylon dark/sage green mix that i use to temperate shade my multicam standing by.

This will be paired up with a mix of multicam and varying woodland cams. I also suspect it will work under my ghillie nicely.

  7. Finally arrived!!

So I went to HK in August and while I was there I went shopping on my free day and decided to buy myself a pistol.

After some cajoling I managed to get the girl in the Hero Arms store to ship, it was my last day and the post office had closed early.

After some dicking about with customs over my ukara/personal insurance/sitemembership defences I finally have it.

Including shipping and fees for a grand total of £88 and a long wait.

I'm not where all my fettling tools are at the moment but she seems to shoot ok if a little sticky from lack of lube.

    Holster hunting time. Recommendations?
