Image thread reduction option

Recommended Posts

Any way to detect which posts have images in and get a thread to only show those posts? Makes image therads a bit easier to sit down and coo at rather than trying to remember which page out of the 7 that icture was on.

If not I'll just make yet another subdivision of my bookmarks folder and fill it up :D

I have an idea that can help make the picture threads a bit easier to navigate. This requires the whole Arnie's community to pitch in a bit and work on it.

We should try to avoid quoting posts that contain full-sized pictures. I see it pretty frequently, and its rather annoying. Someone will have a post that has three or four 8x8 inch pictures in it. It increases load time and things blend together. When you go to quote a post than contains pictures, delete the picture out of the quote and just say *Image available in post X" and/or maybe describe what the picture was.

Just a thought.

It wouldn't impact on download time too much if you have already seen the image (ie chronologically going through page by page) because the browser should have cached the image and it will download it only once. It would cut out on the sheer length of some of the pages.

Thanks for the reply Arnie. Perhaps a future addition to putting images in posts will add it to a seperate version of the thread that only stores the img data? So no text but the rest of the format is the same?

As long as the images referred are teh same not duplicated for the alternate versionof teh thread the only additional storage would be for the use r that psoted etc all that data no?

Just throwing ideas out to see if any stick :)

Actually it does, because if it loads on another page... and well, yeah. Some users might have a dodgy browser that doesn't cache at all.

Anyway. On something awful they often quote things and just put "awesome pictures" or whatever instead of 24 different jpeg files... works wonders!

Either way, there's no need to scroll down a page, see a post with 5 pictures, then as you scroll down more there's another 4 posts each quoting the post with 5 pictures. If not anything else, its a waste of time and space.
