Interesting affordable 3D printer - Peachy Printer

So, i found this guy a week ago and am really interested in it. they figured out a way to refine the method of 3D printing using UV light curable, liquid resins down to a $100 package.

there is no fancy electronics, basically uses a mirror controlled by your sound card to guide a UV laser beam to cure the resin. to solve the Z-axis, they put a layer of resin over a layer of salt water and slowly drip more water into the tank as the laser cures the resin. basically, anything that can play sound can be used to print objects and they are aiming to release a smartphone app that can output files to the printer so you can print things away from your computer.

im not sure how this thing can be useful for airsoft. but it isn't going to stop me from printing out grips and RIS accessories to try out. the stiff resin they recommend using does appear to be pretty tough, but i am waiting to see numbers to compare to ABS and other airsoft use materials.

anyway, its still in development as a kickstarter project but the kickstarter just recently ended. i always come in late on these things...

just check the links and videos out:

anyway, im pretty excited until someone tells me that the resin is useless for airsoft.

Resin can of course mean many things, but more often than not will pertain to a relatively fragile substance on its own (why you need fiberglass to give it strength). There's mention of a more flexible resin on their main page so it's really down to finding what UV cured/hardened resins are available. Technically they can get really tough stuff, if they make it available. Otherwise you can get impact resistant UV cure resins from someone else.

you think it could be possible to lay glass fibers into the resin as it comes up the Z axis? they do showcase the resins they are working with on one of their youtube videos:

but i am still waiting for numbers.
