Shimming and Motor Adjustment

-=OGGY=-

Recommended Posts

In my eyes I see shimming and motor adjustment as things that can either benifit or ware-down your gearbox in the long run. I have been able to find a few articles on the subject while scanning the interwebs, but I really want to know if there are any other good articles out there,or if any of you have any tips. Also most of these articles feature a V2 gearbox and I will be working on a V7. I will also be using torque-up gears so i'm not sure if that makes a difference.

~~I found articles on other sites but all of them were exactly the same as this^^^one

Thanks, OGGY

No, clean all the grease off first, set the shimming, then take a note of what shims go where, re-grease the teeth and sides of the gears with a thin smear of grease, re-place shims in the correct order and then reassemble the gearbox :D If you do it with grease on the gears after about the second or third revolution of the gears the shimming will go completely to cock

He's saying how the grease takes up space, which makes you undershim. Once the grease wears away, there will be more slop than you originally intended.

I wouldn't grease it during shimming because it's annoying and gets all over the place. I do, however, like to put grease on the axels after shimming because it helps hold the shims to the gears so they don't fly everywhere when you open the gearbox again.
