Goldfinger
Hi guys, I own a famas and as some of you may know its black paint gives a very plasticy look, would using some sort of black metallic paint over this give a good metallic rifle look, or just ruin it?... Any Advice appreciated, cheers
renegadecow
It will ruin it considering a real FAMAS is mostly plastic on the outside anyway. Off the shelf metallic paint never really does look metallic at all, more like glitters really. If you want some kind of metal wear going on, there are many techniques you could read about online such as using a silver/chrome base paint, covering it with flat black then mildly sanding/buffing off the black to reveal the silver underneath. If only Tanaka finishes can be bought in a can.
Cosmitz
Tanakan? lol But really, never 'just paint'. Achieving a good effect will involve a bit of study and a lot of work.
HRC
Sulpherite (sp) is good. We use it to patch paint weapons/ sights/ magazines and give them a protective finish. Not sure where to buy it though.
ThaFlash
I'm not sure exactly what you want, but if you want to paint something so that it will look like metal then it's all in layers. What a lot of modelers do is use a base color like Spaz Stix Chrome, then put other layers over it. Their chrome looks like metal so when you paint over that, it looks like something painted over metal. It sounds way easier than it is though and there are plenty of layers and prep steps just to get a good chrome down.
