BerserkDS
My new nova kit has the dummy firing pin, which needs me to modify the blowback unit for it to fit. Does anyone know exactly what I need to do? I'm using a nova bbu, and I'd hate to damage it the wrong way.
castigador
As far as I have seen on YouTube you need to cut of one of those 'arms' at the back of the bbu.
icolater
Yea it's an easy job. Just need to cut the piece at the back of the bbu that's not allowing it to enter the back of the slide where the separate indicator is held in place by a tiny little screw. Rember to file the are smooth after cutting for a perfect fit. Also is it the nova bbu with the cut out on the top to allow for meu sights, or the one that is designed for the standard 1911? If the latter your ok but if it has the cut out be careful not to use the screw on the rear sight to tighten the wobble as it will have nothing to grip on to and enter the bbu housing. icolater
Aip BBUs work better for some unknown reason and actually fit better in nova slides. They don't look as cool though.
BerserkDS
It's the MEU BBU, and do I cut the entire fin off because it looks like only half needs to be cut. AIP? Fitment wise or performance?
icolater
The whole thing needs to come off and filed smooth like it was never there. Fit was better and it worked better with upgraded nozzles.
icolater
What kit is it?
icolater
Cause Iv a few nova kimber bits if you need parts.
LeeCustom
Measure, cut, fit, re-measure, cut, repeat until it drops in. Part of the 'fin' will be left on. Or you can just chop the entire fin off.
icolater
Mine didn't fit perfectly until the fin was removed completely. As the separate indicator piece needs to be pushed all the way in order to be flush with the slide.
LeeCustom
Interesting, which kit was this on? I can only speak on behalf of the CDP II and SAI 1911 kit on the newer style dummy pin version.
icolater
The warrior and lapd newer version with the fake fire pin.
BerserkDS
It's the SAI kit. Got the nova bbu in there nicely now, thanks guys. Only to figure out how to make use of the dummy firing pin, doesn't seem to fit right..
icolater
What screw are you using for the bbu if it's not the original it could be to big and not allowing space for the little spring.
BerserkDS
Stock Nova . Seems like I just need to file down or replace it.
icolater
The marui screw works
BerserkDS
Also, does it matter if I use a hicapa hop up unit instead of the 1911 hop up? I'm using a full length guide rod
icolater
No but the hi cap hop housing doesn't have the little nub that goes in to the back of the guide rod but should still work. You can buy hop up housing from nova and aip as well as a few others.
icolater
I have a spare marui meu hop housing if you want.
