Utty
Wassup. So I've had my Tanaka S&W M36 3-inch for years now, but I never shot it much as the accuracy was so dire. It averages 270fps on green gas (it has spring, valve and barrel upgrades) with .20g BBs - but requires .36g Straights to shoot in a reasonably straight line. Accuracy at 10 meteres is something like a couple of feet. So yesterday I decided to try and reduce the hop-up. I took out the hop rubber and cut a (rather rough) wedge out of it - looking down the barrel, the hop now looks to be reduced by more than 50%. Now, using .25g KSC, the M36 now hits consistently within an A4 sheet at 10 meters. So it seems to me that part of the inaccuracy problem of some Tanaka models is mainly because they're over-hopped - especially when using green gas and hi-flow valves and such. Anybody tried something similar, or other ways to improve Tanaka revolver accuracy?
snowman
Heavyweight BBs delivering better accuracy certainly seems to point to over-aggressive hop-up. Cheers.
Utty
No kidding. Before the mod, the hop would take up something like a third of the bore when looking down the inner barrel - never thought about it before, until it struck me as being pretty crazy.
