Forum updates, feedback system and new versions

    By Arnie

Firstly I'm going to try to document forum updates and other work completed to the site here in my forum blog. This will keep all the forum related updates in one place.   I've completed several updates to the forums today. We're now running the latest IPS versions for Gallery and Blog. There should be several bug fixes and feature adjustments with these new versions; I don't get a list I'm afraid or I'd publish it.   I've also taken comments on the trading system on board and we now have a

evil-Geardo-hippy?

I am becoming more concerned with the gear I wear lately; and to think, I used to be so proud of my £3.50 NBC suit from eBay   The way I see it now, however (and I speak from the experience of wearing those NBC suits!) is that gear that makes your life easy in a game is worth spending more money on, although I draw the line at anything that doesn't significantly improve your chances, or ability to perform quickly in an actual game.   ...and I say that as I sit here looking at my brand new

Jumping Jack Flash (Yes, it's about Gas!)

A common thread that arises on the forums is "Can my Wakahashi Beretta M92BP take Green gas safely?"   The answer is always "YES" and "No"...   Let's start with "NO" - No gas gun, especially a GBB can use any gas without causing wear - All metal, TM, whatever, if you want a pristine GBB in a year's time, just plain don't use it...   Certainly SOME GBBs seem to have less problem with higher pressure gasses (and that pretty much means all the Propane based ones, regardless of how they are br

There IS such a thing as a Free Lunch!

Yup, it is true. Free lunches for all!   The theory goes that you can't have anything for free because if you don't pay for it, then some other poor sod, or even society as a whole, has to foot the bill in the form of slight price increases in everyone else's lunch, for example.   But hey, thats everyone else's problem isn't it? hehehe   I didn't actually get a free lunch, mind you. I got 2 & a half free dinners (at a regular price of £5 each, I might add), a free room in the hotel

The Special Relative theory of Airsoft.

Or, to quote the title in full; The Special Relative Philosophy of Airsofting Incompetence.   Another Monday, another set of aching pins, and another day of skirmishing that would in the eyes of bean-counters, excitable children (of all ages ) and uber-competitive players everywhere be labelled as `Unsuccesful`- in the same way a disappointing experiment in one's Diabolical Monster Lair might have produced yet another 8-armed octo-monkey that disintegrated upon first contact with bananas - a

Flavour of the Month

I never cease to be amazed how the next gun from company X is 'gonna be the best airsoft eva!'.   Sure things evolve and the TM 1911 WAS a big step forward for quality and price, but was their rather lukewarm Hi-Capa? Or the SIG P226?   Don't get me wrong, neither's a bad gun and the market was crying out for a good P226 (I can't see there's a huge demand for another Glock 17, though, TM-san...), but they really weren't THAT great.   However, for months before (and for months after) the fo

Fight! TM Mk23 Vs. Mz P99

Mk23 NBB Vs. P99 NBB .   Broadly speaking, because the differences in quality and noise volume are slight, there is one simple thing to work this out for yourself:   Get the P99 if you want a small-sized handgun, get the Mk23 if you want a very large-framed handgun. This is the most important difference and the one that will influence your appreciation of whichever gun you go for.   One thing worth adding to regarding the size or grip is that the P99 has a very ergonomic and pointable gri

The Evilest Hippy...

Woooo, yeah!! I finally got me the last important stage of bein' a Hippy under my belt: I had my hair dreaded (i.e. made/put into dreadlocks) yesterday, and I'm pretty freakin' pleased with the results Its gonna take a lot of work to get them to properly mature, about 6 months by all accounts, but finally I'll have the hair I always wanted.   I feel soooo effeminite saying things like that     Thats a big step for someone who's been growing their hair for 7/8 years but it was either that

Bruised...

OK - Back from Paintballing.   Went to the Fort Bravo complex near the M25/A3 junction run by Delta Force.   Most things were run quite well and the complex seemed reasonably well set out, although a number of very cool things on the website didn't seem to be there when we arrived (A Bus, for instance), but that might have been our confusuion.   8 of us went and we ended up spending £265 on EXTRA paintballs (which I thought was quite a lot, but wasn't horrendous).   You don't really get

Paintball!

Tomorrow I'm going...PAINTBALLING!   We originally bought the day for my Daughter's 14th Birthday party, but she wimped out and is having a 'hot tub' party tonight instead...   Everyone tells me it'll be fun, but to expect lots of bruises.   As I've come down with a stinking cold today, I'm not sure I'm really looking forward to it as much as I might, but it'll be an experience, no doubt.   I'll post back tomorrow to let you know how I got on - assuming I can type!   Cheers.

Thumbhole madness - The STAR SL8

The thumbhole stocks are breeding.... after the sheer wonderfulness of the Tanaka A.I.C.S. I thought about how awesome that thumbhole actually felt, so I had to go and purr-chase meself one of the G36 sniper range - either an SL-8 (blue/grey, funky, civilianised) or the SL-9 (grey/black, sleeky, militarised). I plumped for the unique colour of the SL8, and that rail that extends unfeasibly far over the front of the gun.   Thing is, to get an SL8, you really only have one choice: STAR Airsoft

Obsessive Compulsive Order(ing).

Jesus tapdancing Christ I spent a lot last week. Now not included within this is my new skirmish rifle: I have a new AEG in the STAR SL-8, and man, I love it. Its taken the pride of place that the AICS up until recently had occupied, although being totally differenty systems I can still find places in my battered, shadowy heart for them both   But as to the spendyness, well since Friday last I have purchased (all online):   MARPAT trousers, & shirt, & bandana Guarder pistol lanya

Pah... Resolved!

A week or so back I posted in exaspertion at the reliability of GBBs.   The Tanaka Browning Hi-Power mag had sprung a massive leak, the MGC Glock was double feeding like mad and the Beretta Tactical Elite wouldn't cycle with the buffered mag it comes with.   First step was to disassemble the Tanaka HP mag and soak the big seal between the mag base and the mag walls in Power Assisted Steering fluid - Buy some of this stuff (Any brand!), it's fantastic for reviving dead O-Rings, etc. After a w

Uncle 'hippy Rants to the Children...

Well, my brother is going to have a baby. Biology will be surprised   Of course its all going on via the conventional arrangement (I [hope never to literally] imagine) - we won't be trying any controversial new science in clan 'Hippy; well nothing more controversial than a little Whisky distillation and the occasional foray into the world of comedy explosives (Comedy of the: `You have to laugh, otherwise you'll cry` variety!!).   What shocks me most is that I'm looking forward to having a

Long time no posting

Afternoon all How are we?   You may have noticed a distinct lack of updating going on in this blog over the summer - unfortunately I have to blame this on a resit exam for my English Lit degree and the copious amounts of revision that came with it Sadly any spare time left over from that was given over to a frantic job hunt which has currently resulted in my current employment as a checkout wage slave. Joy.   Working isn't all bad though - I get better money than a lot of the other jobs I

The VCR Bill 'exemption'

Everyone's very excited about the 'exemption' that is being granted to airsofters, but I can't help but err on the side of caution.   The wording of the letter seems positive and it's hard to imagine that there was any need to offer an olive branch of hope, only to whip it away later - the airsoft community really doesn't have that much influence, I fear.   However, the proposal that the bill will be passed and then airsofters will be offered a regulatory get-out deal does mean that we will

Topics guaranteed to ###### me off!

There are a few topics that crop up over and over which are guaranteed to strain my usual inexhaustable patience   These usually follow one of the following trends :   1)I hate f*ing Customs - This whine always comes from someone who's strayed into WGC or Den Trinity and wet themselves with excitement over the prices. They think they have a bargain and then get annoyed because they have to pay more than £5 for postage from Hong Kong (If they work out it IS Hong Kong). Then they go into whin

VCRB Exemption - Implications & Pontifications!

Whew - well the VCRB-related news is good, just have a few queries and a few good points to mention fom the main thread in the VCRB forum.   Firstly (in response to Pablo mentioning the closure of the entire VCRB forum) I think the forum SHOULDN'T in essence be closed when the details of our exemption are finalised, but just renamed or amalgamated into a new forum relating to fact that the law will have changed regarding RIFs, and therefore we will still be directly affected!! Whether this b

So that little VCR Bill-thing doesn't matter then?

Big news of the day (well, year) is, of course, that we have an exception from the Violent Crime Reduction Bill - that is, subject to conditions as yet undisclosed we will retain the right to own our airsoft guns, protected by law, safe and secure. How pleased are we?   WOOHOOOOO!!!!     I'm leaving the debate to brew and boil regarding the details and the almost inevitable conditions that will be forced upon us, and I need to go out and celebrate my newfound freedoms alongside (and indee

Drinker, Drainer, Folder, Fly.

S**t. I lost, then. I seem to have been drunk at least 3 times in the past week, once on Tuesday for my mate Emma's birthday was okay, but then the day after I had a rather excellent massage (no, not in any way dodgy or suspicious you filthy-minded sods I went to a sports therapist; its reputable..) to ease my work-related injuries and then had a damn good meal afterwards, and in a moment of weakness I had half a beer.....which swiftly became several more half-beers   Then Friday I had some

My collection

Some people send me PMs or emails asking about this or that gun, clearly under the impression that I still own everything I have ever reviewed.   Obviously lots of the guns were mine (or still are), but many WAs were loaned to me by Elite Airsoft and Airsoftmart loaned me the HFC M9 for review. Others have been loaned by individuals or by Airsoft International magazine for review. Thanks go to everyone who's ever helped out in this respect.   People sometimes ask what I currently own. So her

Pah!

Decided to test shoot some guns I've got but haven't yet reviewed.   First off was my WA Beretta Tactical Elite - Damn thing wouldn't cycle with its Elite mag (I later found it was fine with another, standard, mag I have, so obviously a wierd mag fault of some sort).   Second up was my MGC Glock 18C - Seemed OK, but then started double feeding... Oh well... I'll come back to that - Maybe try it with more BBs in the mag or try the long mag I have.   Finally I gassed up my Tanaka Browning H

Sway of the Wagon

This old `abstinence` game is laugh, right? Actually its not too bad, and to be completely fair I haven't been completely abstaining from alcohol in the 42 days since I stopped drinking (thats `stopped drinking` for a given value of `stopped`, anyway. Or for `drinking`as well, in fact ).   What I 've had to drink, in over a month now, comes to a total of: 4 beers, 4 glasses of some heinously sweet wine (that tastes like overly-strong sherry, plus lots of sugar, and multiplied by the the spiri

Releases, Revelations, Revolvers.

Having bought the Tanaka AICS very recently and also having a fondness for anything in the hue of Tan (mmmmm, Tan ) I am a little p***ed off that Tanaka have now released a bloody Tan coloured bloody AICS just 2 weeks after I bought mine. So whaddya gonna do? I'm tempted to get that one too (I was almost considering getting another OD AICS - they're that good - so maybe it'll actually prove to be an extremely fortuitous release!) but before I get too slap-happy with the cash-caddy a couple of
