  1. It is amusing, this is airsoft, looks are 90% of why you choose your guns and gear. The siderail mounts do have the benefit of keeping the weight centered so the gun does not feel too muzzle or butt heavy, but they are always much heavier than something like an UltimAK, IronDot, MI Mini dot mount, etc. Siderail mounts have their place when you want to do an authentic looking Soviet/Russian loadout or gun, but when you're going for a more practical and efficient setup, this modern stuff sells well for a reason. A Kobra optic is cool, but a small aluminum mount and a micro dot weighs less an
  2. A FSB with 14mm- threads could just be installed in place of the original FSB. Here's an LCT one on WGC, bit pricey though... http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail1.php?search_From=searchItem&item=LCT-PK-18&search=special&rs=ak%20front%20sight&catid=&cat=
  3. have to get some in-game pictures of my friends and I this winter, but here's a few from the last couple months; Me at Zulu 24 Airsoft in upstate NY And at the private field my friends and I usually play on
  4. Not a big Beta fan despite owning one, but it's not too bad looking, I guess you can call it a Beta Mag-K instead of a Beta-Project Mag-K. Ditch the ugly railed foregrip for something better, is there a short rail system that would fit the old Marui style front?
  5. That picture actually looks much better, in the other pics they appeared more scraped up and dirty. So I now wish to redact my previous statement and instead say those handguards look pretty good.
  6. Looks pretty good Racing, sleek and practical now, I vote for the AFG. Steevo, I think those handguards are a little too worn, like they were supposed to go in the trash but someone realized they could actually sell them to a US importer. I'd try cleaning them up a bit so they look used, but not trashed, then I think the gun would look great. And thanks guys for the compliments on the AKS74Beta, I know it looks goofy, but it works. I actually used it today instead of my AIMS, doesn't shoot as far or as hard of course, but worked pretty well. And now after posting two ugly guns, I g
  7. That WE is nice, I've been eyeing it, but the cost of mags has been putting me off, looks so nice though. I looked at the left over body from my CM.035/Echo-1 CPM, and suddenly realized what to do with my JG Beta Spetz. A bit of cutting, drilling, and sanding, and the outer barrel was swapped with the CM.035's original. Then I found a piece of tube that makes a perfect mock gas tube, and hammered, cut, filed, and drilled a piece of sheetmetal bracing into an upper handguard, did some painting, and I had something new and sorta cool. I call it the AK74SBeta. Internetz picture
  8. Finished my AIMS rifle, went for the PMC/special forces slightly modified look, basically adding an Aimpoint, paracord, and using new mags. I think it came out pretty nice, it looks really ugly, and really cool. Plus, it performs great, all I did was shim the gears well, put in a 14 metal tooth piston, bearings in the piston head, Guarder M130 spring, Systema bucking with Element h-nub (and some slight filing of the hopup striker to make sure the nub was perfectly even), a Madbull barrel, basic mosfet and 1300mah 3s Turnigy LiPo. It cycles pretty smooth, very fast, and shoots very far and is p
  9. I could use some input from the AK collective for my JG 'Beta Spetz'. Usually I know exactly what I want to do with my AKs, but my little JG I'm not sure. I hardly ever use the thing, I keep it as a handy backup and almost never use it myself, sometimes I lend it to friends when their guns break. Anyways, I'm temped to go ahead and paint it all flat black (fill in the hole from the stock too) and fit the black Cyma grip, but not sure if I like it better with the goofy purplish-grey silver paint and black plastic AK-47 style grip. I'm sure it'll look better/cooler/more realistic if I repaint it
  10. I think the barrel/forearm is too short for the AFG, the vertical grip is ergonomically better suited for the shorter gun.
  11. I just received this in my email, seems a bit unfair that this comes out now... http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail1.php?search_From=category&item=BP-AEG-TAK&search=category&rs=Beta%20Project%20AEGs&catid=6&cat=703
  12. It's an AK, mix and match is part of the game, so long as you're not hanging every silly railed thing off it. I've seen AKSU's with the thumbhole foregrip, looks a bit odd, but not bad or wrong. I say go for it, maybe even get the perforated steel upper handguard to go with it.
  13. I always liked the weird AKMSU foregrip, the muzzle device looks cool too, but it weighs over half a Kg? Just a solid chunk of steel? You would think they'd bore it out or something when machining it. And I finished the pins for my AKSU; I suppose I should paint them. All that's left on this gun now is an OD green pistol grip, which I have on backorder from WGC Shop, and a correct fire selector screw. OD green 5.45 waffle mags would be nice too, if anybody made them. I really wish MAG made their AK waffle mags in the same colored clear as their Aug mags. I guess I could go with some
  14. Beautiful set of AIMS rifles, since getting a CM.050A and putting a Romanian foregrip on it, the look has really grown on me. And I received my AKSU front set from adadqgg today, and of course immediately started assembling. Almost done now, all I need is a pin for the barrel and a rivet for the top cover. I made my own hopup chamber block, and used a spring to keep the hopup firmly located against the gearbox. I rearranged the spring on the rod for the charging handle, and cut a small relief into the front trunnion to allow the rod to fit. The gun still isn't perfect, but it's certainly m
  15. I hate those engraved logos, on my cm.035 I just painted over them, they were of course still visible but at least not from more than a couple feet away. I guess if you stripped the receiver to bare metal and sanded them out, you could blue or repaint it.
  16. Looks nice! Are you going to weather it to match the wood, and get rid of the Echo-1 and Redstar logos?
  17. So you're willing to sell it? Lemme send you a PM... I've spent a few hours searching, I can't even find many of the pieces in one place, barrel here, gas block and top cover there, rear sight block somewhere else, it'd cost more to buy and ship from all those places than buying the whole gun! I figured my only bet would be for someone on the forum to happen to have the parts or a broken gun.
  18. A friend just gave me this (my airsofting friends are awesome), now all I need is to find an entire front set for it and I can convert my CM.035 to a stamped steel gun. Kinda disappointed in how cheesy the potmetal stock latch looks, but at least it's better than the whole potmetal receiver. Having trouble finding the front set, saw parts on WGC Shop, but they were all out of stock.
  19. As much as I prefer my AK's to be basic and mostly original, I do like that gun, because the modifications are well thought out and useful, rather than a bunch of grotesque tacticool add-ons with little actual performance or aesthetic value (not that AK's are known for their aesthetic values in the first place, just most accessories make it that much bulkier and uncomfortable).
  20. Kinda made progress with my CM.050A. Externally, I fixed the stock wobble, put on a Romanian lower handguard and Polish muzzle brake (purchased from APEX). Still need to do some finish work, get a Bakelite grip (I guess an LCT one), and pick out an Aimpoint T-1 replica. Internally all I did was rewire the gearbox with 16ga wire and a Mosfet, still need to go through the gearbox, put in a tightbore, and do the hopup. Also need to put some paracord or something on the stock, it's rather uncomfortable. And I disabled the 'blowback', I guess the clanking sound was cool, but it's an airsoft gun, no
  21. I haven't been around here in a long while, so here's something I'm working on, it's not much, but I think it's turning out kinda nice for what it is. Started life as a CM.028/UTG warhawk that I got on ebay for $14 with a broken stock, a few years ago. I had originally just taped over the holes for the stock, tuned up the gearbox, and used it as a loaner. Recently I realized I don't really have a good AEG for CQB, the stockless AK is nice, but this was just a bit too long for CQB. So I looked through an old AK thread here to see if cutting down the barrel would look ok, foun
  22. TriChrome, looks better with the LCT grip, looks more like the real Bakelite grips I've seen. I was going to build an LCT RPK and use the bakelite grip, but I decided it would just be too expensive for a replica, so I'll just wait for the CYMA RPK and upgrade it a little, and put on the bakelite grip instead of that flat black grip CYMA insists on using on everything. barnezilla, that looks like something someone might end up with when building an AK from various US and foreign parts, like whatever was at hand and US made was thrown in to have a 922r compliant rifle. Looks good though, un
  23. Nice AIMs TriChrome, is that the stock pistol grip or is the LCT bakelite one? And I have a question on sourcing a Kalash AKSU front set; anyone know where to buy one? I'd like steel but doesn't have to be. My friend has a Kalash AK74S receiver, and I want to convert my Cyma.035 to a stamped receiver. I figured I'd swap the gearbox, hopup and furniture to Kalash parts, and drop the guts from my CM.028 into the old .035 body.
  24. From what I have read, the new full steel DBoys/Kalash guns have XYT gears that are well shimmed, a polycarb vented piston head, bearing spring guide, and 7mm bearing bushings. I'm planning to get one soon, and the CYMA RPK, I'll be upgrading them a bit anyway so if there's anything sub par inside the DBoys I'll fix it then anyway.
  25. Nothing really special, but a pic a friend took of me during a game this past January. Just standard Propper DCUs, 6 color boonie, a hunter's neck gaiter, and Pantac chest rig. I'll be putting together a similar desert loadout for an upcoming game at a beach, where it's pretty much a desert environment with bits of woodland, I should have pics of that and my friends in desert gear to post in a few weeks. I'm also planning on a US SF in the mountains of Afghanistan impression, but I don't think I'm going to put it together until the fall, since it'll be much too hot to wear all summe
