Well lets assume I've got the laser on 50mW mode. Why would I be running around the house without NVGs? or even indoors anywhere with a laser that powerful. The high power modes are built for illumination at great distances and for lazing targets for calling fire on. Remember the PEQ is less for the individual shooter and more for calling attention to targets for OTHER shoots; infantry, gunships, tanks, etc. The mil-grade IR lasers are in fact dangerously powerful, but they won't blind you in a split second. The Nav LEDs are IR. I'm debating if I want a red filter for the main light, or an IR filter. But frankly for home defense a red filter makes more sense I suppose.

When fliped over and screwed down into the blue mode it locks out the HI power modes. Blue is "safe", black is not. As the black allows full selection of all modes. Trust me the HI power modes are INSANELY high. Your after laser pointer is about .3-.5 mW in power, the PEQ in HI mode is 50 mW, so it's 100x more powerful.
