galactica
I'm thinking about going for a vest-mounted large battery and converting all my guns to take a feed from the sling. I plan, unless I get a good reason why not, to use a 4 pin Neutrik XLR connector, as used for many power applications in the film & tv sound & lighting areas I am used to. can anyone think of a good reason why I can't use 4-pin XLRs? Gotta be a more secure connection than a Deans.
hokeyplyr48
why would you need xlr-4? could you not just use xlr-3? you just need pos neg and ground. or you could be really cool and use speakon (always thought they looked cool)
galactica
haha. no. My resolved audio engineer brain would not allow power to appear on a 3-pin XLR, it is against nature, what if someone tries to plug my battery into the back of my ProTools? Run a gun from a mic amplifier? it's just not right! Speakons are cool, but they are also AUDIO ONLY!!!
farrasdevell
ooo mackie powered aeg. Phat tunes phat fire power Speakon is only for kids with 2tones. real men use neutrik. perhaps there is an avenue for dmx controlled turret guns.
ruzzz
The only disadvantage I can see is the contacts are rated at 10A http://www.neutrik.com/fl/en/audio/210_202...?title=NC4MXX-B Using them in parallel will help but thats only 20A. The only other problem I can see is the weight of the connectors possibly causing a strain somewhere else on the cable.
