How usual of me to totally miss major components. As far as i've seen PDI does not make those pieces for the VSR, alternatives? To note, black matte finish@charging handle. Also, i am up for getting custom parts if you think them to be better/'necessary'.. like Noobie's stuff.

LE: Would a PSS10 chamber/bolt work? I generally hear that mixing Laylax and PDI parts is bad.. but i assume thebasic parts are the same?

LE2: Would an alternative be the new Marui hopchamber?

I recommend getting the Tokyo Marui chamber over the Laylax chamber, the Laylax one is generally regarded as ######.

Noted. As for the rest of the parts, i found a spare MB03 i can scavange off.

So.. new question.. would this setup be something you would like.. that you'll think will give off good performances as is? Or would you add other parts aswell? Or try different tweaks?

I'd personally trust Laylax more on the cylinder parts and whatnot. Then again, if you do that, you can't go for the bore up stuff. Just I've heard silly things about PDI, like the piston head buffer o ring just falling off after some use. That would irritate me. There's no reason this shouldn't be a good gun. I'd love to see how well the 10mm OD barrel works. But as far as I know, you'd be the first person on this forum to use a fully PDI kitted gun. Mostly everyone here uses Laylax parts.

Ok, relisting the.. list:

Small parts getting them from either a MB03 or a used JG Bar10.. so no problems.

The spacers.. i'll try making them myself since.. ffs.. 3000 yen?

As for the handle.. i'd rather get it from a spare.. but i really like the look of the Laylax one.

Any final tips on compatibility or major 'DUH's before i go all out?

the pro-sniper cap will not fit the bull barrel (you need a g-spec type end cap)

The tapered barrels will not work with the g-spec end cap...

A bit of a contradiction there?

But no matter, i read a bit of englichineese on the PDI website and it seems for the Tapered Front Barrel i can use the VSR-10 Pro-Sniper Muzzle Cap.

*"For PRO-SNIPER Muzzle CAP" is avairable for this outer barrel.

The Taper Barrel themselves need a Bull Barrel base afaik, and on that Taper Barrel do i put the Pro Sniper cap.

The standard VSR-10 Pro-Sniper barrel is tapered, meaning the barrel diameter becomes smaller as you move down it, whereas the G-SPEC barrel is a bull barrel, meaning it keeps the same diameter all the way through. Therefore, the Pro-Sniper end cap would not fit in a G-SPEC/bull barrel because it is too small, and the G-SPEC/bull barrel end cap would not fit in the Pro-Sniper/tapered barrel because it is too big. It goes the same way with barrel spacers.

So if a GSpec/Bull end (big) cap does not fit the tapered barrel since it goes down in diameter, then the ProSniper cap.. fits a tapered barrel. Correct? In the end, the Pro Sniper cap is the correct cap to fit with the Tapered Barrel.

So as said, i need a Pro Sniper Cap.

I only modified to a Gspec fallowing Thresher's comment a few days ago saying that the ProSniper does not fit a Bull barrel, which is correct, but i had a Tapered barrel listed.

The list above has been updated. Anything else that doesn't fit?

A bit of a contradiction there?

No contradiction, maybe a misunderstanding.

I recommended the one piece light outer barrel, which is a bull barrel (and a more solid design, I've two of those). The tapered barrel (with bull barrel base, but smaller muzzle diameter) is a different animal.

A misunderstanding indeed. :)

What is the difference in weight between the normal Tapered and the Lighter outer barrel? I assume the lenght difference covers a lot, but will it really make the gun extremely front-heavy if i go with a 550mm Tapered? I know the limit to barrel lenght is about 400-450mm onwards from where you don't get anymore reasonable gains, but i'd rather hulk a 550 than a 363 and have myself going 'if only' when i miss a shot by a hair.

Time to bump and update this with unfortunate news.

Long story short. X-fire sent the order initially without the inner barrel. The end cap had a visible bad cut angle on a side, making it look bad, just a small aesthetical issue.

image012.jpg

I sent a mail back, and even though they went with the "OUR MACHINES ARE CNC AND ARE PERFECT", i eventually got a new one, after repeated pictures, which sent with the inner barrel. All fine and dandy until i started putting it together.

20-30 shots in, the bolt would lock back and NOT move forward unless i really pushed it in. I removed the assembly.. and i found this:

DSCF6720.JPG

The THREADS failed, causing the piston end to move and bend inside. I removed the cap, used some epoxy and put it back in. Worked again for a couple of shots.. then nothing.

I've emailed X-fire, but they're taking the '165m/s is a dangerous speed and breakages are unevitable, we are also not responsible for wear that was already on your gun'. Ignoring the fact that THE WHOLE THING IS PDI FRESH OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE. And i saw nowhere saying 'max 140m/s', or the fact that they sell springs upwards to 185m/s. They stone walled me and apparently i won't be getting anykind of replacement piston.

I know that it was a problem with the threads and bad manufacturing because i also took up a few emails with polarstar and they said the same thing. The depth that the threads engaged was.. shoddy. And i've already seen with the endcap that their machines fail.

So right now, i'm left with a pretty incompatible build and a severe disgust for PDI "quality".

I have a bore-up cylinder with a spring guide that's different, to be compatible with the piston (afaik longer/thicker), that i cannot fit any piston in it. I looked into the Laylax Orange teflon.. but i'm sure to have huge problems due to dimension difference.

I've sent emails out to polarstar and edgi, see if i can get a custom made, but that'd be uber expensive.

Any solutions?

Well, i'll be damned.

JB-welded the endcap to the piston, and shot about 50-60 shots without a problem. O.O So it seems that solved issues. Thing is.. i'm having issues with the FPS. Besides missfeeds and sudden drops to 90m/s, usually i get 187m/s on 0,20 and no hop, and 163m/s with 0,29 SGM and hopup.

Thing is.. there are no springs for about 500fps. >.>

My VSR-10 G-Spec is mostly PDI... I have the following:

PDI Reinforced v-Trigger with Piston End

PDI VSR 360 Spring 13mm diameter & 11mm inner diameter

PDI 01 6.01mm Precision Barrel

PDI Precision Cylinder Set VC

Fits together easily, not had a problem with it yet. Consistant 500fps

Total cost for these parts was $441.74 +PP from Redwolf

Original Parts are as follows:

TM Hop up unit,

TM stock

TM Outer Barrel w/ RAS rail (of course)

TM Lever & Bell

I've also added 4 barrel spacers, piston dampeners and filled the stock with expanding foam to reduce the noise.

Also replaced the G-Spec silencer with a King Arms lightweight 330mm one.
