Forum updates, feedback system and new versions

    By Arnie

Firstly I'm going to try to document forum updates and other work completed to the site here in my forum blog. This will keep all the forum related updates in one place.   I've completed several updates to the forums today. We're now running the latest IPS versions for Gallery and Blog. There should be several bug fixes and feature adjustments with these new versions; I don't get a list I'm afraid or I'd publish it.   I've also taken comments on the trading system on board and we now have a

Not a total Geek

I'm wondering if I'm anywhere as big a geek as I always assumed I was, and maybe I'm really only a geek in the way I knew I was years ago.   Confused? Well I think I used to be too. Now I'm pretty sure that I'm not a gun geek at all, really No honestly, I don't think I can be. Thanks to the mildly antisocial behaviour of another user here I've come to the realisation that I don't care about airsoft in a geeky enough way, nor do I give a fig for the minutiae of real-steel operation.   I t

Free stuff. For free!

Have a look here if you want any bits and bobs.   http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...ndpost&p=682971   I just wrote an essay for the thread itself so this is gonna be a tiny one   Please feel free to ask me here for any bits IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY BEEN MARKED AS SOLD IN THE THREAD.   Ahem. Pardon me for shouting but sometimes you just gotta do it

A Day of Reckoning...

I’m really hoping this deal I’ve been putting together comes through. Its not worryingly huge but it is a bit of a prover, as it were. I’ve been negotiating with a potential customer who wants about a thousand railway sleepers (yeah I know, glamorous ain’t it? ) and a load of - wait for it – motorway crash barriers. I bet that’s got your blood racing, eh?   Its not exactly thrilling but its no worse than any other product I guess, and at least our reason for doing what we do is because i

Drunken Master

You'd almost think that I've not been drinking since the last post on alcoholism wouldn't you?   Not a chance. As I sit here sipping my G+T I realise how I have neglected this blog while I've been ill, and being drunk for virtually all of the same period hasn't helped me recover much. If only I could take time off work to get better, but then I realise the reason I can't do that is because I'll end up being p*ssed all day instead.   Ho-hum; oh the trials and tribulations of being an evil

Peter Osgood.

`Man dies at Funeral` - some might say thats not too far from being unusual but thinking about it, some might say that it is actually rather odd. But I guess these things do have to happen from time to time.   Odder still is the person who sadly died yesterday, the Chelsea, Southampton and England footballer Peter Osgood, famous in the late 60's and 70's for being almost at the top of the game, but mostly for portraying the `King's Road` image of classic English football. A rather good obitua

Happily unmarried man

So the theory goes that; we must find a partner to be happy, and have kids, and leave everything to them and they can carry on our `line`, or whatever.   I disagree with most of the ideas about being attached to someone in order to be happy, I find it untrue and honestly a basic weakness of people to let their evolved instincts guide them in such a strong way. Fair play to y’all that have other halves, but to think they happened to you because of anything other than a highly evolved way of ca

Not something you see every day

I've never met anybody that's 100 years old before, at least I hadn't on monday. Yesterday, however, was my great grandmother's centenial 100 years old and still one of the most incredible women I know. And yes, she got her telegram from the queen

Blind Faith

I’m wasn’t sure how sure I should be of this, but in the spirit of brotherly sharing, goodwill, trust and general niceness I’ve lent a few guns out to some newbie skirmishers. But I’m not going myself…..?   I guess this happens when you take people along and they get bitten by the Bug, now they wanna go practically every day and of course they don’t have their own guns yet. I could see it coming, really, and I guess this is just the bit where I undergo a little test of my faith in these guys;

Solving problems

Now that the celebrations of good grades are over, I've come to a conclusion about one of my dilemas: I'm not going to continue archaeology. I'm going to finish this semesters course, and that's it. From then on I'll be doing single honours English literature.   I'm a little sad that I'm not taking the subject any further, but taking it further involves doing loads of fieldwork and I really don't wanna go there. However, I'm happy that I took it for these two years and managed to get a good

Apple software shenanigans

Hmmmm.....   Right. This is a convoluted way of getting around to my main point, but it neatly illustrates how silly and convoluted things can get, unnecessarily, too.   I'm going to the rather swanky and exclusive Roof Gardens nightclub/restaurant in Kensington in a few weeks (guest-list only darling, didn't you know? *looks down nose*) and although getting on the guest list might prove to be a bit of a mission, I didn't exactly expect viewing the freakin' website to be one as well.

More m-US-ings...

Been in the States again, but this time for a skiing holiday in New Hampshire.   Some nice skiing there (Attitash, Shawnee Peak, Wildcat, Bretton Woods, Cannon and Sunday River to name the ones we tried and a few others, notably Loon, looked very good as we passed), but the snow wasn't great (which meant no tree skiing and limited the number of really tough runs open, but at least it wasn't totally absent) and the temperatures were a tad raw at times (-1F at one time during the day!).   Am

Gunsmithing For Dummies

After a long, long time in limbo, I am more or less satisfied that I have a final plan for my battered old Marui MP5 SD5. My first homemade custom gun; Woo, and veritably yay!!   The stock went to someone else a while ago as I knew this had to be a short gun as soon as I realised it had to be modified, and my amazingly cunning, although horribly disfiguring, previous plan of keeping a giant battery hidden inside an upturned MC51 large battery handguard sitting on the top of the thing has bee

Internetterly Greatness.

I cannot normally be bothered to stick links in here to every cool thing I see or get sent, I might start now ..... but then again I might not. I just thought that given the recent outcry over religion, a general lazy kind of interest in finding ways to argue both with and for my Father's choice in this area (he's going for the Deaconship in the local parish and is nearing the end of a Theology degree - busy little Buddha that he is ), and also knowing and deeply appreciating his well-establ

Good news!

I got a B for English literature!!!     It seems all my long hours of revision and most emo blog writing has paid off. I got the grade I needed, so now my entry into Honours is almost certain.   My archaeology problem remains unsolved, but I just need to wait until my adviser gets back to me and that'll get sorted either way. I'm sure I'll update and let you all know what happens, but for the meantime....     PAAAAAAAARRRRTTTAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

King of the Jungle

Tarzan, King Kong, Jim Carrey and the Amazon river can all take second prize on this one, because the true king of the jungle is Mr. Raymond Mears, of North Devon.   Ray's shows are great, he may be a trifle out of tune with latest developments in popular culture and the normal stream of media-filtered horsesh*t we receive from every channel and every station at every opportunity, but that's a good thing, surely? The thing that makes him king is that he cares in a totally unassuming way.

The sheer stupidity boggles my mind....

Ok, so basically I nearly fed someone their P90 today.   I attended a Glasgow 'shindig' for fans of Serenity/Firefly and a bunch of people including myself went in costume.   One of the regular groups from the convention circuit is the 'Reaver Hunters' and a bunch of them showed up, carry various airsoft weapons, one of which is a tricked out p90. Whilst I'm talking to the owner, I notice that it's got a full hi-cap in it. I ask politely if I can have a fondle of the gun, and whilst doing

Head a little better...

...which is nice. I've decided to make an appointment with my uni adviser for sometime in the coming week to get some advice regarding my course decisions, so apart from a little more thinking to do after the meeting my mind feels a lot clearer.   As regards the Dark Angels: nothing is decided yet, but I've had some PM and phone conversations with the senior members and some other team members so my thought process has been helped along by various advice and opinions.   I know I'm not be

Welcome to The Suck: Jarhead

Woooo! another Desert War movie!! Its only a matter of time before we get the hollywoodised version of Bravo Two Zero:   Instead of; "I don't know nuffin', I'm only a medic....." "Why are you doing this to us Andy, I'm trying to help you **THWACK!!** "     It could be safely assumed to become "I'll never tell you anything, you goddamned person of middle-eastern ethnicity!" "Ah, but yesss you willll, after we kill your best friend and threaten your famillllly!!" "Noooooooo!!!"

My head hurts

I've not been having a good few days. Today I've been doing a lot of thinking about my courses at University, and evaluating what I'm going to opt to do next year. I'm not too happy about where I'm going at the moment with certain subjects, and the fact I'm seriously considering being rid of something that I was so thrilled to have the chance to be doing is a bit upsetting.   Also, today (or rather yesterday) I was offered a place in the Dark Angels.         How odd.

Happy Hippy Birthday :D

Yup its the big four-oh for me - in 16 years time Yes I am now technically 24, my word, only 16 years until I'm 40? Sh*t, I really hadn't thought of it like that before   Oh well, according to the last entry it doesn't matter anyway, so lets just get on with things with a smile, a wave, and the occasional little boogie and a few healthy sups of `that ol' Janx spirit` to lubricate the passage ( )   In the latest thing from the world of airsoft - I am nearing the completion of my collec

Life and Death

Here's one to think about: imagine if the stories about your whole life flashing before your eyes before you die can be taken as `true`, broadly speaking. The most esteemed Mr. Terry Pratchett has used this as an excuse for a joke given, as his best lines often are, to his own favourite anthropomorphic personification - Death - in the form of the lines (between Death and a very-recently-deceased person. Hint: Death's lines are the ones in capitals );   `Isn't my life supposed to pass in fro

Healed Heart: I've found my love!

Yup, its true. I have found a partner that can stay with me on the long journeys of life, can support me when I need it most, and can keep me going through the most difficult uphill struggles.   And, one that can really help me go places. Or should that be two....   Yup, I have fallen in love with 2, peop.... things, err. Ok my new true love is a pair of Nike Air Max 360s, and what a pair of trainers they are!! Oh, I never thought I'd see the day   Even I didn't expect those kind of gu
